I think it's just for a cover, unfortunately.

Dang, you kind of feel bad for Donald Blake...although I don't think it was quite supposed to go that way.

Pretty sure that's the case, just a variant cover, as far as I'm aware the book is Jane, the MCU equivalent Valkyrie, Dani Moonstar, and the Asgardian Hildegarde (who, if I remember correctly, was a valkyrie when first introduced WAY back when, so guess she got kicked out off panel or something since she wasn't uncerimoniously killed off with the rest), also I'm still ticked off about Brunnhilde's death a year and a half after the fact.

I thought Hildegarde was with the "Ministers 3(?)" with Hogun and Fandral...
Either way I love that cover. Makes me miss Brunnhilde.

Aaron was trying to throw her into the dynamic with everything he was doing with Volstagg, but I never really cared for it.

Hmmm... could be wrong, just found this from a comics site while trying to find out if the variant cover is or isn't the one limited to 100 copies...
Together with Dani Moonstar, Hildegarde, and a brand-new mysterious Valkyrie, Jane Foster will prove that the Valkyries are amongst the greatest warriors in the Marvel Universe in an epic battle that will take readers to the afterlife and beyond! To celebrate this highly-anticipated new series, superstar artist Artgerm has delivered a variant cover featuring a stunning depiction of the original Valkyrie, Brunnhilde, called upon from Valhalla to join the fight against Knull’s unrelenting forces.
Yea I never cared for it either. We'll see how Cates handles it though...

It would make my day to see Brunnhilde again.

she'll probably be back as a dead person to praise how Jane is the greatest Valkyrie who ever lived.
btw, Return of the Valkyries is written by Aaron and Torunn.

Same
same.

Yeah, I suspect they'll either keep her dead and have her in spirit form for consultation/coordination, or, if they do physically bring her back, she'll be killed off again before the end of the story.
Honestly, I've never understood the point of making Blake and Thor two entirely separate people. I always thought it was akin to Shazam, the same person changing bodies via magic.
Seems hard for Thor to learn humility if he's only conscious for battle

If anything it's more like the older Captain Marvel where Billy and Captain Marvel were actually two, distinct, personalities.

I would love if Thor had a Yugi and Atem type of story. The possibilities are endless.

Now I'm imagining Dan Green as Thor :p.
