It’s entirely possible for Diana to be invulnerable to being damaged by bullets and still block them with her bracers... especially when defending others. She can do both! Writers can always keep it vague lol. That way she still keeps the style that comes from deflecting them while also avoiding dumb arguments like “well, Superman can...” She can do both, she’s Wonder Woman.
Bullets & bracelets is her trademark, it's something that only Wonder Woman does, it's how she's always done it and it's a nice little reminder that Wonder Woman has super speed
Exactly.

Because DC allows everybody and his brother to do anything to the character because they don't care about diana. They just need a title con the stand to keep copyright to che character. George Pérez was the only one who cared. Editors just say yes to anybody that allows them to put the comic out, they don't care what is in the comic itself.

The thing is. That with this sword and shield approach, she doesn't show her speed and skills blocking bullets as often as she used to. Also she can still do her signature blocking bullets move and be bulletproof.
Going back to the OP's question, if so many writers seem to suck at WW, reading these posts suggests that it's at least partly because there are several camps of fans who each want different things without any interest in settling for less, regardless of what might be best for WW in the long term.
Hm. Much like US politics these days
Actually, fans know what is best for her, more than DC does. The approach of portraying her as a typical warrior woman does nothing for her. Since this happened in 2011, along with the change in her origin. She is less unique, has lower power level. And her personality feels too distant and empty at times. She is supposed to be a female power icon that fights for everybody. It not a good look, to portray WW as an observer in her own title, with a weak will and showing her constantly lose big fights without somebody's help, while pet characters lecture her on her failures. That is not a good look. And the im warrior woman, all I care about is fighting, and i heavily depend on a sword and shield to get through. None of this is a good look, imo it doesn't do any thing for the character. Fans just want balance. Between her powerhouse side and her work as a peace maker. Fans want to see her mythos being respected, to see her be competent and powerful enough to save the day by herself, you know once in a while. It doesn't feel good to see your fav hero defeated and needing help all the time. And sounding so weak willed against the obstacles.
