I would have preferred "this is the day I grew up"
Especially since the next time we see her, she will be all grown up

And as usual, somebody thinks they can get a joke in on Spidey, and then they wind up on the end of the joke. Sorry, Iceman.
From a practical standpoint it makes more sense, but visually I think it just looks stronger visually when she has her hair out.
I don't think it's a coincidence that it's loose and flying free both in the Venom costume and in the time-skip.
But I also just think that the VenoMJ look is much more distinctive and stronger visually then the normal Spinneret costume. MJ just looks good in black :).
From practical viewpoint yes. But i like it also because it is distinctive. I don't read much comics. But almost every female superhero has long flowing hair. That is just my point of view. There would surely be many who have shorter hair.
Main reason is because it makes her look older. It suits her as she is a mother of an eight year old. But that is simply a preference. I love the flowing hair pretty good. But somehow her bun appears more familiar. Like meeting a friend after years. Someone i knew in college but who is now a mother. From my point of view. (I am not saying mothers or someone who is above 30ish to wear hairs in a bun. That would be judgemental). But i love MJ's hair tied in a bun that way.
I agree that her black costume is stronger visually. She looks good in black. :)
It was a preference. Venom will always be associated with black. I liked the white one because it was unique. Also, because something a plain ol' housewife may make. You know not like the wild party animal who prefer black or darker colors. But the housewife who keeps everything neat and clean. Everything spotless spick-and-span. A good contrast from her earlier days when she was that fun girl. Again not against those girls who wear white or the women at home who wear darker colors. That is simply a preference. Something i associate with due to my experiences.
I know she is a working lady. But it seems fun to imagine that she made a white costume. She tries to keep it clean. (Good luck MJ!) I will go check the books again and see if she keeps the house clean or not. But that costume is very much made by someone who wants to be the woman of the house. Maybe she is struggling to do that. But its a nice touch.

I wanted to quickly post an idea and hope that sprang up before learning MJ would very soon lose the symbiote she has been bonded/partnered to. Like many I prefer her Venom suit vs the white as she does look much better but this idea goes beyond prefered appearances.
This idea is based heavily upon the charazations of two sentient characters: MJ and the Symbiote.
Influences being the strength of character and motherhood shown by this version of MJ and the recent Venom series that has been a major push to developing and making the Symbiote more than some monstrous goo parasite serving just as a means to an end to form 'Vemon' traditionally shown or made artwork of but a actual character with devopments, emtions, and hopes. Plus something MJ said in the Vemonverse how Eddie has a toxic relationship/partnership with the symbiote due to how 'Eddie corrupts the symbiote'.
Now taking out the knowledge of MJ losing the bonded Symbiote very soon (which indicated to me MJ ONLY gained the Symbiote not just to push sales but for the Vemonverse event and once done she loses the symbiote with nothing else coming from it all which greatly disappoints me).
One of the thing I like to do is focus on how things could/might be and display and character growths and developments that can come from some events/arcs. In the Venom series we have seen how not just how the symbiote might influence and affect the host BUT how the host him/herself can affect and influence in turn the symbiote. It doesn't go one way only. Into a character of good, bad, or neutral. Current 616 Venom Symbiote has gain so much developments and voice of it's own from the years it has been used in the comics. The Symbiote is really the main character in the Venom series NOT Eddie, Flash, Lee, or others who might come and go. We learned about it's races past and role in the universe being more akin to a alien partnership green lanterns universe protectors. How it became 'corrupted' by some other hosts BUT continued to grow beyond the other corrupted symbiotes into a being around the neutral area that didn't want to kill off the host but work with for the betterment of both (and got banished and imprisoned because of that).
For the many years we seen and most know of it and intuition mind set during the early intro Eddie Brock days as a monster.
But present day readers can tell you how it has advance and grown beyond that greatly during the Flash days. It is a character that learns and develops feelings. It grows and becomes more complex far beyond a beast type.
Now going to this universe this Earth version of the 'Symbiote' was once partnerships with Eddie Brock and basically was the early days symbiote and Venom version most know and know as a dangerous villain understandably. This sybite took part in treating Peter's and MJ's daughter and now bonded to that very same mother whom it terrified in the past. The 616 symbiote terrified 616 MJ greatly (possibly one of if not the worst for 616 MJ) and possibly the same history hold true for this Earth version of the symbiote and MJ.
But MJ who was once being negatively emotionally driven by the symbiote now being strong willed has the symbiote under her thumb. MJ is coping with having the sybite thus coping with her boosted emtions and not letting the symbiote 'corrupt' her. But what about that other way around of the host/MJ influencing in time and lessons and emtions passed onto the symbiote infusing and growing/teaching it by circumstances first unknown and unintentionally by MJ by the power and lessons she give by being a awesome mom?
A thought in my head was while MJ teaches life and education lessons (helping with Annie's homework and helping Annie study so she doesn't fall behind due to superheroics and watching educational and family friendly shows) with her daughter Annie she is unknowingly teaching and passing things to that very same symbiote who is listening and feeling the emotions of love and kindness from MJ to the symbiote. Imagine this in a long term (like a time jump that will happen soon) that by experiences and developments the sybite is the one transforming the most with MJ as it's partner.
The symbiote begins to feel things and learn better with strong willed and more importantly 'MOM' MJ then any other host. Important lessons and education and morality.
The symbiote hate and negative thinking dies away and is transformed into a better being. From MJ's love and close proximity to Annie the sybite begins to fel love but in a sibling way to Annie. It begins to see Annie as it's 'sister'. MJ as it's own 'mother' and 'teacher'. When MJ goes to sleep much like the symbiote of 616 who watches TV and soap opera doctor shows when Eddie sleeps this symbiote watches Sesame Street, Mister Rogers equivalent, Neil Tyson, and enjoys watching Disney with Annie unknown first to MJ.
MJ begins to find less resistance from the symbiote and that negative emtions MJ has to suppress no longer there. Instead mostly positive ones taking over.
The symbiote gaining better understanding of proper english and moral center grown while under MJ's control. The symbiote remembers terrifying MJ and worse treating Annie that it has grown to see as a sibling and feels a wave of guilt. The symbiote speaks to MJ once agian now apologizing for the wrong it has done to her and Annie. MJ learns that the symbiote has changed and decides to take a chance and raise it and help it learn/grow into a better individual working better as a team since.
Now supposedly just 'ten years' has gone by for Peter on 616 since being bitten and gaining spider powers in story but the whole symbiote events started in the early 90's thus I guess 5 years there and the symbiote has partnership with other hosts since. For RYV Earth MJ still bonded with the symbiote MJ herself would be one if not then the longest host for a symbiote shown to readers technically.
Under MJ's tutelage and most importantly the power of a strong willed and personality woman and motherhood the symbiote/her symbiote becomes one of the most intelligent, well round ethics centered, socially skilled, understanding and controlled emtions and proper english speaking symbiotes character version.
Much of this is represented in a costume change (supply evolved slowly from the character devopments influenced and taught by MJ to it) with MJ's costume having equal portions of black and white (representing a spiritually well balanced yin yang) plus additional MJ flairs and coloring for uniqueness and designed exclusively for RVY MJ+Symbiote suit.
Doing so showing a internal strength, compassion/empathy, and powers of a good motherhood by MJ plus the common 'Nature vs Nurture' (Peter fears and think the symbiote is a monster by nature but under MJ she nurtures it into a true hero character and atoner and it becomes apart of the extended family in a way also). That MJ the woman whom the symbiote terrified the worst in the past is shown as the ultimate host and purifying influence beyond all other hosts to date and one of the longest hosts beyond even 616 Eddie story time wise.
Overall having long term character developments, a possible use of the freedom that AUs have that if the 616 Venom Symbiote is forced to further toss out it's own hero learning growth character developments for the sake of 'Status quo' in time for the movie being made then the RYVs version can still have that growth and hero spectrum, and showing further character awesomeness and strong mother vibes from MJ.
MJ/Symbiote and Annie swings over the city and sees a bank robbery taking place.
MJ: "Now kids... let's be good and careful in there."
Annie + Symbiote: "Yes mom."
Just an idea and hope that popped into my head after the second issues of MJ having the symbiote bonded to her and it being hers presently but now won't come to pass with Mj losing the symbiote very soon and even Annie not being around the Parkers for MJ to showcase such motherly love and teachings that the symbiote could grow and influenced from (unless a 'What If' tales happens).

I just read the latest issue. Fantastic. Only problem is how short these comics are, and how long we have to wait for the next one. Very excited for the new creative team.
Congratulations to everybody involved with issues 1-12, you've all done a great job and given this fan his favourite Spider series ever.
-
Yeah, this issue had some problems, but overall I loved it's overall message about love and tolerance, Annie and Nomie make a great team..hopefully something's come out of this in the time skip.
-
Won't be surprised if he becomes a heroic Green Goblin, and Annie's love interest.
That poor Blackbird :p.
I'm guessing the narration is Annie and it's cluing us in as to how she ultimately stops Normie.
Yes and no.
[spoil]Normie wasn't even the villain. Ms January was.[/spoil] But yeah, that was the post-time skip Annie narrating.
-
I'm going to miss devious little 10 year old Normie
-
Good issue but it does highlight a problem I have with the entire series that could get even worse with the the time skip.
I just dont feel like Peter gets much time to shine at all as a hero. For a lot of these stories we have had MJ or Annie have the main hero moments. My fear is that the time jump will result in even more of this happening if it gets more Spider-girl like story lines. It worked im MC2 because that was not Peters story but Maydays but here its supposed to be a Spider-man/spidey family series and it just does not feel like that to me.

That would have been excellent to see. Thanks for sharing this. And yeah, like almost everyone else here, the only thing I don't enjoy about RYV is how short, if not truncated, the stories are. Then again, that can almost be a positive because at least we actually want more instead of feeling like the story is taking forever to end or get to "the good part."

I appreciated that he did much better against the Goblin Mecha then I was expecting him to do (or would have under Slott).
But this has always been a Spider-Family book that gives a lot of spotlight to the Parker women, which given how marginalized Mary Jane has become over the years is pretty darn refreshing. And at least Peter still gets a few moments here and there and generally feels like himself and acts his age, which is something I feel has been missing from the main comics.
I think interviews for the time-skip have mentioned that the older Annie will be taking on even more of the spotlight, but since covers still have Peter and MJ pretty prominently in there I have hopes that Houser and co. will still focus on them to a degree.

The interview Marvel.com gave with Houser hinted that Annie is not the only one "going through changes" so there's obviously more plans for Peter and MJ in the book.

See that is exactly what I am afraid will happen. I dont want this book to be Spider-Girl 2.0.
Dont get me wrong I love Spider-Girl and I have read the entire series, but with this book I wanted a different book with Peter Parker as the lead character or atleast as co-lead and at this point he often feels more like a supporting character. If focus is going to be even more on Annie then that is only going to get worse.
I will likely still buy the series even if it does become the Annie show but I doubt I will enjoy it as much.
