An the S is a tattoo on his chest? The mind boggles! ;)
I like to think of it as a big ol' sticker. What I wanna know is how is the cape attached? Is it part of his anatomy? Is it superglued to his collar bone? I must know!!!

He welded it with his heat vision reflected off a mirror.
This cover always amused me.
The only rational explanation I could come up with over the years is that whoever colored this art didn't know who Superman is. (The interiors are B&W).
Therefore, seeing his underwear, it made sense to color him with skin tones.
After all, no one would wear their undies outside, right?
And this thing must have followed him/her all his/her life. But once it’s published… I imagine the poor colorist’s answer: “I didn’t know who Superman was… ” It must have been hard to believe him/her. :)

Doubt it.
This was published in Yugoslavia during the communist regime. People with no skills were granted "easy", "good-paying" jobs based on who they were related to or knew (like reviewers, for example). I bet one of the party leaders called the publisher: "Hey comrade, do you have a job for my auntie?"
Publisher: "Can she draw?"
Party member: "No, but, she's good at coloring."
Publisher: "Excellent! Tell her to report at Eks Almanah on Monday"... and the rest is history:D

Superboy Prime went freehand, but Supes prob. paid to have it done professionally.

Superboy Prime really could have had a great career as a tattoo artist. Look how symmetrical that symbol is!

I havnt come into the cover contest thread in a few weeks. I am glad I did this week. A lot of great entries. I really loved The New Wonder Woman. I know she gets hate but I had fun with that era. And Cap's Kooky Quartet was my all time favorite run of The Avengers :)
The wondrous ed2962
Lots of good choices this week, but I'm casting my vote for worstblogever and the rebirth of the X-Men!
OopsIdiditagain this week
I vote for seismic-2 and the many hats of Howard the Duck and the cool chapeau cameos. A nod to Attila Kiss and nearly nude Supes.
batnbreakfast because that series was sooooo good.
