just thought of this question. was dan ever a part of the jsa? or any other super team?
I've seen some mention of him being in the All-Star Squadron, but that's mainly on fan-dictated sites, so nothing "official" as far as I know.
What I'd love to see would be a book set in the 60s/70s and showing the heroes that protected the world in-between the JSA disappearing and the JLA debuting. I'd think Dan would be a prime candidate for a book like that.

sounds interesting. so dan was just after the jsa.
so most likely dan is about the same age as the founding members of the league.

From Threshold #8.
I guess it was after Jaime returned to Earth that Ted Kord found him which led to the 2016 series.
No. Dan was a Golden Age character that wasn't owned by DC back then. Dan's Blue Beetle even had his own show on the radio during the 1940's

Dynamite Entertainment did show the Blue Beetle alongside other heroes as being part of a team:

I would imagine that's The Silver Scarab, though. Their take on the Dan Garette Blue Beetle. Did they refer to the hero by name?

My understanding is that the Peter Ward Scarab is a separate character, and that while the Fox Comics version of the Blue Beetle is in public domain, Dynamite doesn’t want to get into trademark problems with DC Comics over the name by using it in the actual comic, so he’s generally referred to as “Big Blue” as a result, like with Daredevil and Hydroman.

I see. Only tangentially aware of that universe, so I wasn't too sure.

i'm a little confused. so is dan garret the fox version of the blue beetle that's under public domain?

Due to lack of renewals and/or lack of proper copyright notices, this version is, as well as the Charlton version of Ted Kord:

Wow, didn’t realize that Ted’s Charlton era is now public domain. So another company can re-print those comics but how far could they go with adding his likeness into a new book like the ones Dynamite publishes? As you said they wouldn’t use the name over fear of getting sued, but could they use his costume like they did with Dan Garrett’s?

that's really surprising. how did it work, did dc forgot to renew or something?
and how is charlton ted kord different from dc ted kord?
