Doctor Who IV - Everything Whovian - Would you like a jelly baby?

As most of you know, I love Doctor Who. I own an embarrassing amount of Doctor Who stuff and have even been able to meet a few Who actors.
Luckily, I know that quite a few CBR Community folks are also Whovians - both classic series and modern. And, to be blunt, it doesn't matter in the least if you're a decades long fan who grew up with tales of the Zarbi or you only caught onto the series because you thought David Tennant was hot - if you like Doctor Who, then welcome!

Let's face it, the series has had it's high points and low - but even some of the worst of Who possesses great redeeming features. I'm not a big fan of the 1996 movie, for example; the script was pretty bad while the Eric Roberts version of The Master was embarrassing. BUT I still maintain that the 1996 theme and the TARDIS interior were both fantastic, while McGann put in a pretty strong performance considering what he had to work with.

So come on in, tell us who your favourite Doctor is. Your favourite theme! Your favourite companion! Best story! Share your Who collection, that would be pretty great!

Never met any Who actors, but I did get to see them filming "The Angels Take Manhattan" two years ago, which was pretty thrilling. I've been a fan since catching some 5th Doctor episodes on Canadian TV in the 80s, so as much as some fans give "Warriors of the Deep" and "Time-Flight" a lot of crap, they have a special place for me.

Favorite Doctors: from the classic era, Davison, Tom Baker and Pertwee are my favorites (though I like all of them, except McCoy). From the new era, I'll go with Matt Smith as my favorite, despite any issues I have with the Moffat era (and I have many).

My favorite Doctors are Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Christopher Eccleston, and Matt Smith. I like all of them, though.

As for me, been a fan for... let's say [I]some[/I] years. I've met a few Docs at signings and stuff. And I saw both Pertwee and Colin Baker in 'The Ultimate Adventure' stage play, waaaaaay back when. Fave Docs; Old Who - Sixie; New Who - Eleven.

Oh yeah, and I was in Trafalgar Square last year when they were filming for DotD. Which was cool.

I love Doctor Who and Torchwood. I started with the 9th Doctor and have seen every episode since. I also watched all of Torchwood. I love them both and also hated Gwen. what a whiny Character. She was to be our point of view character? I loved Ianto and Jack. My favorite companions were Rory, Martha and Amy, in that order.

Any clearer idea than Autumn 2014 for Season 8 to begin?

I watched a few classic episodes on Netflix, and enjoyed it, although in retrospect it may be better to watch it in some kind of order. I caught up on the relaunch around Series 4.

And since then I've also seen more classic episodes, which seem to get better the more familiar I am with the characters. I particularly enjoyed the five serial stretch from the Deadly Assassin to the Horror on Fang Rock (which also included the Talons of Wang Chieng and Robots of Death.)

I'm still hoping that I'll be able to meet Colin Baker in November.

That's the lovely thing about the Doctor. No matter what mood I'm in for the day I can find a Doctor who fits it.

No, Don't expect any more firm news to come out for the next few months til probably around July. Broadcast dates are still around the August bank holiday weekend but it won't be before that. As for filming they're around halfway or so through the series filming so very much on schedule which is exactly what the BBC want so they can have an unbroken series to broadcast later this year.

Ah, that's a shame to hear, would've liked something more solid, scratch cross the ol' calender, but, sure, at least that's something.

My favorite Doctor Who is Matt Smith.

I thought he did an amazing job at convincing us that he was an alien, not just an eccentric human. He was great at acting both young and old at the same time. And I thought he really was a maniac capable of anything, not just other people saying that.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer, at least, until some episode titles roll in, official photos, from within show, or something big - like Davros or the Master returning!

Am glad to know that, truthfully I am, as the breaks weren't too good through Seasons 6 and 7, so hopefully, if only Season 8, or for a fair bit of Capaldi era, will be bunch of well written, good acted, each week, episode series.

Absolutely.

I started watching with Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, so unfortunately they were my earliest memories of the show. But discovering the earlier Drs, paricularly Tom Baker has been great.

Favourite Dr: (Old Series) Tom Baker, (New Series) Not sure, i liked early Matt Smith a lot more than later.
Favourite Story: Hmmm Probably (Old) Talons of Weng Chiang (New) Blink or The Beast Below
Favourite Companion: (Old) Leela (New) Martha maybe by dint of ultimately not making a bad impression on me.

See, as may be obvious, I actually hold some of McCoy's tenure as some of the best of Classic Who. I think we can all agree that stories such as [I]Time and the Rani[/I] and [I]Delta and the Bannermen[/I] were rather rubbish, but then you get absolute gems such as [I]Remembrance of the Daleks[/I], [I]Ghost Light[/I], [I]Silver Nemesis[/I], and even [I]Battlefield[/I] and [I]Survival[/I].

The 7th Doctor audio dramas, in particular, tend to be of an excellent quality and well worth listening to.

Gotten into Who over the past few years, thanks to BBC America and Netflix. Going through the classics now but so far....

Companions: Donna Noble, Tegan Jovanka, Nessa, Rory Williams, Oswin Osgood.

Would anyone have episode suggestions for other Doctors?

I know that I'm less expert in all things Who than others here in the thread, but one of my favorite stories is the one off episode "Blink".

I was actually a bit scared by that episode and that kind of thing never happens to me.

The premise of "Blink" would actually work quite well as a stand alone horror movie without all the time travel bits. Probably the best scary episode of new Doctor Who along with "Midnight".

Big Finish doesn't have the rights/permission from the BBC to use any NuWho Doctors, at least yet.

That's a shame to hear. I'd say, if they were willing to go that route, John Hurt'd be willing to do a few as the War Doctor. I'd say a few people'd love that, and i certainly wouldn't mind it myself.

Tennant seems likely to be up for the odd bit, here and there, to me and Smith, eventually, after enough time has gone by since The Time of the Doctor.

Would love if they could find the technicality of using Hurts' War Doctor, just because, though part of new series, comes after McGanns' 8th, and is technically therefore before Ecclestons' 9th, soooo...

Maybe not, but, could be nice.

Or, set a certain amount of time after The Day of the Doctor perhaps, and let New Doctor stuff go ahead.

Not sure about Ecc's or Hurt. I'd love that though.
Heck Moffat even wrote large gaps with Smiths timeline just for that.

Nick Briggs even said he'd be happy to work on NuWho stuff.
I suppose it's a matter of time till the BBC lets them in.

Would that be to do Daleks and Cybermen then? Yeah, that'd be pretty cool, add some nice authenticity to proceedings.

Lot of gaps with War Doctor, many an adventure, before Ten and Eleven got involved, so much to explore there, and, yes, the many, many years left unshown for Eleven lend themselves to it too.

The Fifth Doctor was my Doctor, favourite companion though was Sarah Jane. Loved the show since I was old enough to watch TV. Have met a few of the actors including Karen, Arthur and Alex, no Doctors though

For a new topic of discussion in this thread, what is everyone's favorite BAD Doctor Who episode? What episode is so cheesy or badly scripted, but you loved anyway? For me, it would have to be The Idiot's Lantern.

I've definitely warmed up to "Love & Monsters". Mostly because they jam out to Electric Light Orchestra. Marc Warren is decent as Elton. Plus it has a pretty cool looking monster (no not the Abzorbaloff). At the beginning of the episode Rose and The Doctor are chasing a Hoix.

For me that's a tough call, basically cos if I enjoyed an episode/story, then I don't think it's bad! ;)

That said, I've usually been quite good at guessing what the general fan consensus would be for an episode. [B]Love and Monsters[/B], for example; I think it's a great story, but even as I saw it for the first time, I figured it would an episode that divided opinion. The one time I've been genuinely surprised by reaction to an episode has to be [B]The Rings of Akhaten.[/B] I honestly came away from that episode expecting everybody to be hailing it as a classic! So whilst I don't think it's bad at all, I guess it qualifies as my favourite episode which a lot of fans think is bad! :p
