Well, it wouldn't be Frank Miller if something like that didn't happen, I guess.
-
Yeah it seems like there are some small spoilers here and there. My fault for clicking on it with well over a month to go I guess.

Oh come on. The credited pages are right there.

And to think they actually lowered the age rating...what else was possibly edited out of this?

It'll be interesting to see how the Kents adopt him this time. Snowstorm, forged papers, distant/dead relative leaves him with them. Etc. Maybe they'll go with the classic "wrecks the orphanage and they can't wait to get rid of him" trope.

That's a pretty tepid review from a site that is so friendly with DC. Sound like Miller is going to still be Miller here.

I remain down for this book.

Year One will be returnable

Some things here look really cool like Pa and baby Kal meeting for the first time and Clark sitting on the silo and then other things that really don't, the football thing and the stuff with Lana. I guess I'll see soon enough.
Though in recent weeks I've been wonder if the concept of an origin story is kind of at odds with the type of character Superman is.

And I fear this Miller/JRJr title is going to be all sorts of BAD! I hate Romita Jr's art and don't think Miller has done anything worthwhile for years. I think this is going to be one big epic fail! I hope I'm wrong about this one... I'd love to be entertained by a new Superman origin story.

AV Club has a preview. It's certainly... something.

You sure Frank didn't mix Jonathan and Martha up with Jor and Lara?

Holy crap, it's like satire the way Ma and Pa talk, but everything around it is 100% my sort of thing so far. I'm pretty into the narration.
-
Everything with Clark is fascinating here, even Morrison-esque, but judging by Ma and Pa I'm pretty sure Frank Miller has only encountered Kansas as a concept via 1920s cartoons. The most generous argument I could imagine anyone making is that he's trying to play them up as...well, probably outright dumb and naive-bordering-on-childish to more effectively contrast baby Kal's super-brain, but I would definitely not be the one making that argument.
-
Yeah, the dialogue is like a parody of Kansas farmers. You compare it to the Kents in like American Alien who were intelligent and believable characters and it's a joke. Like what is he going for here?
Clark's narration was better, but still comes off a little heavy handed for me. Interesting to see how he handles Lana, if she's treated as an actual character or some type of hokey caricature like the Kents. Overall, it's a weird whole.
JRJR's art is great though.
