It's a first look for a scene, so I'm not too upset about it.
While cheetah print definitely is 80s appropriate pattern in terms of clothing options, I hope that Barbara isn't adorned in too much of it as some sort of foreshadowing. ;)
Maybe if there's a Halloween or Pride scene, she could be decked out in animal print? But if she's a more serious Indiana Jones type, she probably wouldn't be too done-up or stylish in her day to day. Probably a more down to Earth look. Even frumpish.
Wow, didn't expect that kind of look. Thought it was going to be more classy? Idk. Still open minded.
She looks like a hillbilly, certainly different than I imagined, I'm a bit worried now. Also "lassoing the wind", get out
-
I like the Dr Psycho/Maxwell Lord theories about Steve Trevor, but my first reaction was thinking back to Diana seeing 'his watch's on Themyscira in the first film. It was (or at least seemed to be) a glowing blue water on a magical island. Prolonged life, and amnesia after the plane exploded that Diana will fix with her lasso is my guess.

Nah. She looks like a very typical woman in 1984, with a pastel tank, sneakers, mom jeans and arguably bad hair.

She looks like a suburban mom in the 80's, Barbara is an upper class college-educated woman with 2 PhDs though isn't she

Yeah, something like that. But in the most recent run, Barbara was super low key with her fashion. She could be someone who doesn't care about appearance, because work is more important... something like that. Which would be interesting paired with Gal's easy, and somewhat unintended beauty and glamour. Like Barbara is less glamour, and in the field, on digs, getting her hands dirty, and Diana is more the fancy, poised, museum curator.
But, I could be way off. It puts me a bit in mind of Formicida from the Lynda Carter TV show though.

She doesn't give off that vibe but I guess we need to wait and see

If they are playing up her archeologist background, it would also make sense that she wouldn't be all dressed up...she'd be in casual mode to get her hands dirty.
A pretty renowned prosthetics artist, David Malinowski, joined the crew for WW 1984. Could this mean they're going traditional makeup with Cheetah?
Fingers crossed! I'm fine with CGI additions to "sell" Cheetah's speed, but I'd prefer Cheetah's actual appearance to be all costuming and prosthetics. Well, maybe a CGI tail if they can't get quality puppeteering for that (without intruding upon the scene being filmed).
No more CGI bodies crashing into each other over and over like a video game cut-scene please!

Looks okay to me - very standard for the 80s (judging from photos of my mum when she was younger).
I wouldn't have minded a little more sophistication to help "sell" Barbara's impressive education and intellect. But, she's still dressed "neatly" for the time and I guess they want to differentiate her from Diana as much as possible (i.e. brunette v blonde, fashionista v casual dresser).

Yes! Thank you! My problem isn't so much with the cliched 80's fashion, is that it doesn't fit the character or her station.

It looks like we'll see again Themyscira/Paradise Island. :)
-
I'm very happy about the apparent return to Themyscira (whether in "1984" or some kind of flashback).
IF we do see Themyscira in 1984, then I hope that Patty Jenkins doesn't feel bound by Justice League's representation of "modern" Amazons and that she feels free to clearly demonstrate that the Amazons made scientific, technological and military advancements after the invasion of Themyscira during WW1 by reverse engineering and improving upon the guns, artillery, battleships of the Germans and Steve Trevor's plane.

Anyone notice that the casting call is for "Egyptian looking"? Banas???

Wiig looks wonderful.
I am even more excited now. I have a hunch that Wiig will be incredibly effective as Minerva.
Since I loved the first film 100 % from top to bottom, from opening to closing, I welcome any changes they make to Barbara; in Patty I trust [that this film will be just as awesome as the first].
A combo maybe? Prosthetic for close up and lines, cgi for action?
I wonder which look we'll get. I was always partial to Perez's Barbara Minerva look. It was sexy. On set now they have Wiig in a blonde 80's wig. And Mom Jeans.

Is Cheetah going to come off as too "samey" to Enchantress in Suicide Squad?
Yahoo just posted the first photo of Kristin as Minerva standing in a museum and the description was that she was an archaeologist after an artifact.
So the artifact transforms her into something that isn't quite human and evil
Just from a basic audience standpoint that seems pretty similar.

Grace was so full of ‘definitive’ bad news from ‘reliable sources’ before the first film NONE of which panned out and NONE of which she owned up to so I wouldn’t get too worried.
-
I'm digging the look for Wiig. I think she's gonna end up killing this. Before Rebirth I would say I wasn't down with Minerva looking so frumpy, but I think it's pretty in character for her to look like that now. Definitely provides a strong contrast with her monstrous transformation.

I don't know if Enchantress's origin was on screen long enough to make enough of an impact on the GA. As long as the execution is far different, and Cheetah does something more than just dance and wave her arms for the last act, we should be good.

I guarantee the only thing most movie-goers remember about Enchantress is that she was a bikini-witch gyrating in front of a CGI sky-beam.
As long as Cheetah's not that, I seriously doubt people will notice the similarity.

Agreed, there is also the fact that Julie Moon was only a character pre-Enchantress for like less than a minute, and Barbara Minerva will be one of the leads.

Agreed! Speaking of which, do we think Cheetah will be in a bikini? Will she be furry and naked? Furry and some kind of bikini, whether 80s athletic wear or "tribal" gear?
Could they possibly be creating an amalgamation of the Barbara Minerva and Priscilla Rich versions - Barbara acquires the abilities of a god, but doesn't undergo a physical transformation? Instead, she fashions her own "cheetah" skin similar to Priscilla's pieced together costume from the Alex Ross Justice comics, possibly even with the self-mutilation? Or would that be too similar to Selina Kyle's transformation in Batman Returns (which was extremely iconic and memorable)?
I'm inclined to believe that Cheetah will be furry and naked. If Mystique can run around most of the X-Men films "blue, scaly and naked", then surely Cheetah can run around furry and naked (i.e. Wiig will be in a full bodysuit / catsuit).
-
Agreed, there is also the fact that Julie Moon was only a character pre-Enchantress for like less than a minute, and Barbara Minerva will be one of the leads.
Agreed. I've learned more about Barbara Ann in this one picture than I was ever told watching 2 hours of Suicide Squad of June Moon. I doubt anyone will make comparisons because quite frankly, June Moon wasn't given enough character for us to compare her with anyone. And this is actually coming from someone (maybe the only person on earth) who actually liked the Enchantress in the movie.
Something I think is weird and a comparison I actually see people making is Barbara Ann to Jamie Foxx as Electro in Amazing Spiderman 2. People seem to think Jenkins is going to take the same bumbling nerd approach and over the top villain transformation to Electro that movie took. Honestly, I don't get that. Again, this one photo gives Barbara Ann a seriousness that Jamie Foxx was never given as everything from his look to his portrayal was goofy, over the top and outlandish. Barbara Ann does not seem like she lacks confidence in this photo to me. She seems sad, self loathing, lost, intelligent and hopeful. She's already given more seriousness and pathos than Jamie ever received in his movie. Until we actually see the first trailer, I think more people will erroneously(?) compare her to Jamie Foxx or Jim Carey's The Riddler (another comparison I've seen although I've never seen that movie so I can't say one way or the other). I've also seen comparisons to Michelle Phieffer's Catwoman, but I have seen absolutely no one compare her to June Moon.

I assume their going to go the CGI route. I think Jenkins wants Cheetah to be seen as a serious threat and danger to Wonder Woman and the world and a Cheetah suit would be the complete opposite of that. I wouldn't be surprised if Rucka and Sharp's visual interpretation of Cheetah would be the one Jenkins translates to screen. I hope with the facial tears, as well.

I actually liked her a bit in the beginning scenes, especially her first one in the meeting room. Her more grungy look worked better than the more cleaned up, dancing one we got earlier. I LOVE that design. She shouldn't have been the main villain though, she should have been a member of the Squad. Or (as fandom speculated early on) Joker would be the main threat and he'd take control of her somehow.

Why not a mix? That she is wearing a suit but the CGI is also being used?

Grace is actually aware of their good friendship and working affinities, so I wouldn't discard her comments. I'm more worried about they using the new 52 version of her origin. Also, Johns was never a Wonder Woman fan so I didn't like him involved in the movie from the start. But we shall see.
I love love love love love the picture. It tells so much with so little. I'll stay hopeful.
