It can still be something like what you mention in your first paragraph, established comic book villains doesn't have to look or act like they would in the 60's show or Schumacher's films. Think about something like Azzarello's and Bermejo's Broken City, which features faithful adaptations of Killer Croc, The Penguin, Joker and The Ventriloquist while still being a gritty and grounded detective story.
I kinda hope that the villains and Batman still come off a little more larger-then-life then they did in Joker. I think it would be an interesting contrast with the grounded detective/crime stuff.

I've actually shared these just because they sounded nice rumors. :p No idea of the reliability of the site. Looking at the past articles, it seems hit and miss.
EDIT: Just checked, rumors debunked pretty fast. More miss than hit then. :p

That Young Justice/Teen Titans one can easily happen. Nightwing, Batgirl, Supergirl and Blue Beetle all have films in development and you can easily introduce Kaldur and Cassie/Donna in an Aquaman/Wonder Woman sequel.

I’ll believe it when I see it but I really hope these rumors are true. I loved Cavill in the role but if rebooting the franchise gets us a new Superman movie I’m there. I just don’t want them to give up on the character that started it all.
If they’re smart they will lock down James Gunn with a huge contract.

According to Zachary Levi, the Shazam! sequel is expected begin filming in late Spring or early Summer 2020:

I think that if Dwayne Johnson is in some capacity in Shazam 2, WB will arrange the filming of both movies to fit his schedule.
Also, how many DC movies are set to be filmed next year? Are they going to release a DC film every 2 months in 2021?
-
I'd shoot both movies at the same time and then divide them in two, with BLACK ADAM coming out in the summer and SHAZAM 2! the following winter. But apparently there's a diffferent director for BLACK ADAM, so I don't think they'll pull a Salkind.

I feel like these are just made up but honestly pretty sure bets at this point. We will get a Teen Titans movie at some point in the DCEU's lifespan, giving Gunn more to do feels like a "No Duh" and I doubt Cavill is still around otherwise he would've cameoed in Shazam. Like that's a couple hours on set to make that happen, he would spend more time in make-up and getting suited up than having to act. I feel like he's gone at this point.

Since Gunn is going back to Disney to make GOTG 3, isn't it possible they will keep him so busy there that he'll never have time for more DC movies?

It depends. I know there were rumors or murmurs that Gunn was going to be cultivating the cosmic corner of the MCU before he got fired, but I think Feige debunked that.

He showed interest in doing Adam Warlock but outside of that and finishing GotG Vol 3 I don't really see him wanting to stay at Marvel.
Remember how a good chunk of Batman v Superman revolved around that photo of Diana Prince that Bruce Wayne managed to get off Lex Luthor in order to stop the villain exposing Wonder Woman's existence to the world? Well, it seems that's being thrown out of the window in this film.
The 80s setting will see the Amazon Warrior acting as a spy during the Cold War, and her mission is reportedly to hunt down a "nefarious" Russian spy.
While that may sound covert, the site reveals that in Wonder Woman 1984, Diana is known as a superhero and that makes sense considering we've already seen her running through the streets of Washington D.C. and hanging out in a mall. The question is, do Zack Snyder's films no longer count?
As for Cheetah, we know that she's being played by The Martian's Kristen Wiig, but some new details about her origin story have now come to light. Apparently, Barbara Minerva is a huge fan of Wonder Woman's and wants to be just like her (further confirming that Diana is a publicly known superhero).
Well, Maxwell Lord offers to help her with this and while she's initially a hero, her beast side soon becomes more and more difficult to control. Understandably, this leads to the public turning on her and she inevitably becomes a villain as a result, with Wonder Woman the only one capable of stopping her.
How does Maxwell Lord help transform Barbara into Cheetah? Well, Patty Jenkins has changed his powers in a big way, and while his comic book counterpart can control people's minds, Pedro Pascal's version will have the ability to grant people's wishes...at a price (like an evil Genie?).
That explains why Cheetah ultimately loses control along with another major plot point which has been bugging fans.
We've been hearing rumblings about this for a while, but, yes, Lord is indeed the one who somehow brings Steve Trevor back to life.
The site doesn't reveal what the catch is, but they note that he has a plan and is "even said to transfer his soul to another… none other than Diana Prince’s beloved Steve Trevor." That may give Chris Pine the opportunity to play a very different type of character, and will almost certainly lead to heartbreak for the Amazon Warrior!
In the comics, Lord was granted his powers thanks to an alien invasion, but given Ares' role in Wonder Woman, how much do you want to bet that he's also a God of some sort?

I think he still wants to play around in the Marvel Cosmic wheelhouse, which honestly I find more logical then Adam at this point :p.
Before Gunn was fired off GotGv3, I remember reading that he has going to be guiding Marvel's cosmic side, and I don't imagine that will be changing. I personally thought his firing was all for show and Gunn himself knew it. They just needed the controversy surrounding him to go away while Disney was acquiring Fox. Marvel never even met with other people to replace him. Once it was over, they quickly unfired him. Gunn may be playing with some DC toys, but I don't see him leaving Marvel for them.

The "controversy" was just some neo-fascist guys digging up old dirt. Disney's handling of the controversy arguably made it much worse, both in giving in to gamergate tactics and in the way they did it, with very little grounding or consultation. The reason they got Gunn back had less to do with planning but because Disney found themselves in a situation where they in effect found themselves in a lockout in replacing Gunn. The actors clearly wanted Gunn back, and potential directors didn't want to step in to replace Gunn.
If Disney had given a non-committal neutral statement ("we are aware of these tweets, and we will discuss them again with Gunn") the controversy would probably have been over within two weeks.

Lord sounds like he's probably going to have some kind of divine heritage to explain his abilities (so whether he'll be Lord In Name Only remains to be seen).
Although with all the rumors of Pascal playing Lord at this point, I think it's probably likely that's his character by this point.

Grace Randolph tweeted about the JJ Abrams/DC rumor. Apparently “a lot of people in Hollywood are talking about it.” That really means nothing but I’m still holding out hope. Would love to see Abrams named the next Superman Director. I think his name/brand could help revitalize the character. As long as he doesn’t use anything from his Superman: Flyby idea.

If he lays the groundwork for reviving a franchise and the studio hands it to someone who creates a divisive product, that’s on them. It doesn’t mean it will happen every time. If he’s getting a gigantic payday that comes with creative control, he should have a lot of say when it comes to who takes over if/when he departs.
-
Not a fan of JJ Abrams taking a shot at Superman after seeing his ideas for the character from his Flyby script.
I think there might be other DC characters he could take a shot at and probably be successful.
-
Grace Randolph also made the point that Kevin Feige loves the Marvel characters and the comic books, while a lot of Hollywood producers and directors don't love super-heroes or comics--they look down on them and on the fans that love them.
I think that Patty Jenkins could do a good Superman movie, because she respects the character and would do something that appreciates the source material. But she seems to only be attached to the Wonder Woman franchise.
-
They'd be dumb not to be at least considering Abrams on Superman or something. Regardless of my personal opinion of his work (I find his stuff fun but too derivative at times), he's proven he can make a crowd pleaser more than once. And that's what Superman needs right now. Someone who can make a big, flashy, bombastic adventure that wins over audiences and not another attempt to reinvent the wheel and do a "realistic" examination of the character.
