I recall some complaints about Riri's sexualized cover but the masculization argument from black women is a new one for me. Mostly, because the loudest voices of criticism against the character were racist pricks.
It was a point of discussion in the early days that was rapidly addressed, to their credit, like I said. You're right that it was dwarfed by the negative reaction from the usual suspects.
A white police officer who killed a black teenager four years ago in Chicago has been found guilty of second degree murder.
While it isn't usually there in the titles of some of the articles on the verdict, it's worth noting that he was also found guilty of one charge of aggravated battery with a firearm for each of the bullets that killed McDonald.
While it's not true accountability, those additional charges are at least something closer to whatever true accountability would look like.

Marvel Rising stuff was all over Target.
Finally not letting DC have all the fun for that demographic I guess.

Did anyone watch the McGregor/Khabib fight?
McGregor really insulted the man. His family, his faith, his country...he needed that beating that Khabib gave him. Yeah, Khabib went overboard at the end but damn, that guy has been insulted.
Connor took a massive L here, only Drake has taken an L this big this year (seriously, I'm surprised Drake is still alive after Pusha T buried him alive).

He was insulted, he beat his ass, it should have ended.
Instead, Conor "lost" but will take him millions while Khabib might not even get paid now.
UFC is a clown show. Conor has to keep escalating the shit talk bc that is his thing that gets him paid massively. And Khabib might not be a very good person (weirdly close to some F'd up shit).

I agree that Khabib should have been more controlled. Apparently, he kept a lot inside...as in..a lot.
But that's the issue with the UFC, Dana White is a clown and plays favoritism. Connor attacked a referee years ago (i think that was in Bellator), he threw a dolly into Khabib's bus and legit injured guys (one of whom is suing him) and talks smack and gets away with it because he brings in money and is Dana White's boy. Khabib even mentioned it in the post fight press conference.
I'm sure Nevada will release Khabib's cheque but all this talk of visa revocation e.t.c might be a bit too much.

You have to give it time.
Dana condenmed Conors bus attack thing too initially and then once things calmed down, used it ot promote the fight.
Initially, Dana is gonna say how bad Khabib was ect. And then when it calms down and it comes fight time ago... every commercial is gonna be Khabib jumping the cage.
the check and visa stuff really isn't in Dana's controls. But he is going to want everyting to be "fine" because he is gonna want a rematch between the two (even though Conor doesn't deserve it at all) to make that money.
Don't get me wrong. Most of the broader strokes are good, especially in their existence in the first place, but it's more the tone deaf nature of some particular beats. There were a lot of black women bothered by his initial portrayal of Riri, for example, based on her masculization of being 'Iron Man' and the early sexualization of her appearances.
To be fair, those complaints were taken seriously and things adjusted and I'm glad for it. I just think that we can evaluate him on the positive basis of the broad strokes and admire his commitment to diversity but acknowledge he sometimes brought problematic things in, too, especially in his treatment of mental illness. (Sentry, D-Man, etc.)
But neither of those criticisms made sense towards him. That would be towards Marvel at large. For example, Jane Foster took on the mantle of The Mighty Thor, X-23 became Wolverine, Cho became Hulk. Essentially, Marvel wanted the characters to represent the name of the legacy they took part of mostly due to the idea that it was the title that sold the book (which it definitely does help often.) The Early sexualization was due to the artists such as Jeff Scott Campbell drawing her in his standard sexualized style, not realizing that doing that to a teenager would send off alarm bells. Neither
of these issues reside with Bendis.
Now I do agree his treatment towards mental illness has a lot of work, no doubt about it, but I also believe because Bendis is one of the only ample advocates for diversity, and he's white, he has a large target on his back for complaints that doesn't fall under his wheelhouse. For example, Bryan Hill straight up fridged Duke (the signal) during his detective comics arc, and yet there wasn't a peep to be heard.

If they want to strip Kabib of the title they can now (they have an excuse now) and that is nobody's fault but Kabib and his crew.
It's not like the UFC's core audience gives a rat's ass if Kabib gets screwed out of the title or not.
That was literal snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on the part of Kabib and his crew.

The way the hand out interim belts, strip some people but not others, rewards title shots based on popularity only, and such... the belts don't mean a GD thing anyway.

Hi, might not be a fully appropriate thread, but could someone help me recognize the characters in the 2nd and 7th panel in this page: https://imgur.com/a/2KNA85f
Mostly just wondering whether they're Marvel regulars or just some random nobodies

Kelly Kanayama: First things first: Cheryl Lynn, how does it feel to be the first black woman to ever write a Batman comic?
Cheryl Lynn Eaton: I’m racking my brains, because I know there have been other black women definitely working at DC, like Angela Robinson and Felicia Henderson…
But they haven’t written Batman comics, as far as I know.
Eaton: Wow. It’s kind of crazy to be not only the first one, but to work on a character that’s so different from me in so many ways – race, gender, class. It’s so great to be able to just go outside yourself and think about how he would approach things and how he would think about things.

Batman: Secret Files #1 will be published by DC Comics on October 31st
Guess I have to buy a Batman book....
Wonder how may copies will be set on fire or stabbed.
Nah. Wally West and Linda Park come to mind, and there are probably others that I just can't think of right now.
Another one: Niles "Chief" Caulder and Celsius (who was from India) of the Doom Patrol.
Wally and Linda were engaged for a few years in comics and were married in 2000.
Yeah, and Rhodey and Rae Lacoste were an item all the way back in 1992. War Machine has a thing for blondes.
