Victoria Alonso and her lawyer have refuted Disney and Marvel's claim.

So it was not a cause, but an excuse?

Disney still issued a statement that she was in breach of contract.
Its going to get very messy. Im not surprised though because it has to be something really really serious that could get someone with her stature there fired.
Although if this is actually some sort of contractual misunderstanding then there will likely be a settlement between the two parties somewhere down the line.
You’re right that she just might be a scapegoat. Her treatment of the contractors, though — whatever. Like I said, show me a documented example of anyone with budgetary authority in corporate America who got fired for lowballing contractors. That simply doesn’t happen. The kvetching from the VFX houses is just gossip unless someone within Disney indicates that’s why she was let go, and then she would be the first exec ever to get fired for such a thing. Bad special effects? Well, if her job is to make good effects, they might fire her for not doing her job. They might fire her as a scapegoat for Disney’s and Feige’s decisions. That happens all the time in corporate America.
I have worked in large — one bigger than Disney — companies incorporated in America my whole whole adult life. You do not get fired for putting the screws to contractors. Period.
As for Alex Alonso, I never thought I’d say this, but I miss him.
Well the way I heard it, Victoria was blackballing so many artists that they were having trouble finding people to get work done. It was seen at poor management and not something she'd get praised for by her bosses.
It's not directly why she got fired, that was mostly just the corpo shirts wanting to see heads roll in the wake of disastrous earnings. so she WAS a scapegoat, but she was chosen as a scapegoat since they had reasons to want to fire her that they weren't going to actually run with because it'd make a stink..

Yes.
Breaking the contract, no matter how small, gave them a reason to fire her easily.

Whatever the real reasons Alonso was fired, it's certainly the end of an era. That woman has been with Marvel since before it was a Studio, and whatever complaints or failings she had, she oversaw some of the biggest critical and commercial hits in hollywood history. We always give Fiege a mountain of credit for shaping the MCU, but Alonso has been right next to him the whole time, and supposedly she pushed hard to get characters like Carol and T'Challa into solo films, which of course ended up being some of their most successful movies ever.
I very much get the vibe that she was sacrificed on the alter of corporate bullsh*t; they wanted to blame somebody for phase 4's struggles. If she breached her contract, that's likely just the excuse they used to fire her.
I hope the MCU doesn't become as rudderless as Star Wars. I mean, that franchise is still sitting in a pretty good spot with a number of successful shows under its belt like Mandalorian and Andor, but they can't seem to get any movies off the ground and, outside of the shows Favreau/Filloni are making, can't seem to settle on a direction. After the sequel films were a critical disappointment I can understand wanting to take some time and refocus, but its been years and they still can't seem to decide which way to jump.
I worry that Alonso leaving Marvel is the start of a similar spiral with more firings on the way, and without established, experienced leadership the Studio will end up half useless, following the whims of whatever the Disney board thinks is a good idea in any given week...and the only people you should trust less than a CEO is a board member.
With luck Fiege will get a quality replacement and the Studio can repair whatever damage has been done the last couple years, and remain strong. Honestly I'm less concerned about Alonso and more about whoever is crafting the larger effort; I never expected the MCU to remain at the height of Infinity War-Endgame, I always figured the start of a new saga wouldn't go over great with fans as we kind of start things over and establish a new roster and new Big Bad, but clearly the audience's tastes and expectations are shifting and the standard Marvel formula isn't gonna carry the kind of box office it once did. I worry more about the MCU adapting properly to a post-pandemic, post-Endgame world, and less about whether the cgi is as shiny as it could be.

By that metric I care more about the VFX artists who have to make said CGI...

The VFX stuff has nothing to do with why she was fired, as we are now learning. I’m sure some VFX houses are a little happier, though.
You’re right she maybe a scapegoat.
It looks like Disney is claiming breach of contract, and it is implied it is related to her moonlighting without permission, including talking to the press to market things, which she wasn’t supposed to do.
I’m not surprised. People get fired for not doing their job, not for lowballing contractors.
You will NEVER be fired in corporate America for paying contractors too little.

The quality of work was suffering due to poor management. Stupid crap like deadlines getting thrown out the window due to management changing things last minute. Sure, lowballing contractors is fine, but not getting the work done? THAT is a problem.

Having been a contractor multiple times, it sucks royally. I could not agree any more, I agree so much.

Oh man I hope most of what I am reading and hearing is not true. This sounds awful. I love Majors and this is the last thing I wanted for him. Guy is on top of the world right now. Then this?!

Yes, if higher ups decided she wasn’t doing her job, the effects were bad, work product was bad, etc., that may have been part of Disney’s decision to fire her.
But no one gets fired for paying contractors too little. That’s all I am saying.

It doesn’t sound like he’s on top of the world after Ant-Man 3 and this arrest. Just sayin’…
