^I was about to post that too. Jimenez really makes the trunkless suit work. Simply awesome and badass.

Im glad the trunks are back, but images like that make me miss the REBORN suit. Maybe eventually once the Lois and Jon in space story wraps and Lois brings the Reborn suit back with her Clark will take to alternating between both the classic and the Reborn one. After all who says he has to wear the same thing all the time?

I've always tried to maintain the idea that the red trunks are just a minor aspect of Superman's outfit and that Superman is Superman no matter what. But seeing Superman wearing the red trunks in Action Comics #1000 somehow felt… right. He felt complete. Don't get me wrong, I loved both Rebirth suits but there is something timeless about the red trunks. I wasn't expecting DC Comics to bring back the trunks but it's something I definitely appreciated.

On the flip side, he makes the trunks looks like granny pants. :p

More like shorts.
So I bought the hardcover 200th anniversary edition of FRANKENSTEIN recently. It's a highly recommended blast to read the original science fiction story. But it got me thinking:
Has Superman, in his 80 years of existence, surpassed Frankenstein's Monster, in his 200 years of existence, in terms of cultural influence and relevancy?
I genuinely do not know. The argument could be made either way, I guess. What do you think?
I thought about making this a separate thread, but A) I don't want to be "that person" always starting new threads needlessly and B) it seems like it fits here.
New discussion or not you're really alright.
But I don't think the comparison is fair. Competitive sure in a way, but public domain is just such a different ballpark. I think it's almost like counting Superman knock offs for the totality of the concept, but many of those are so disputable.
Yeah, I think its apples and oranges.
Public domain v. corporate entity.
A century separates them too; and I dont know off the top of my head how popular that book was a hundred years ago. If we could compare Frankenstein's popularity after eighty years to Clark's right now, that would help, but it feels like comparing the current popularity of the Model-T to a current day Mustang.
And the larger media prospects make the comparison different too. Clark appeared just in time to come up with radio, tv, movies, video games, the web, etc. Frankie was an old classic long before any of those things arrived.
If I *had* to make the comparison, I'd say that Superman has "probably" surpassed Frank. Clark is, after all, the second most well known fictional character on earth (after Mickey Mouse) and I don't think Frank even made the Top Ten. But I wouldn't be at all confident about that claim; Frankenstein's Monster isn't exactly a C-lister in fiction's history.

I agree, DC should alternate them from time to time or in different stories and continuities. Both have fans, so DC should embrace it. Don't go back, keep going forward so that people get more used to both looks.
But I don't want the trunks back for live action, tho. It really doesn't work there anymore. It will be so weird to see only Superman wearing trunks. It's an oudated look for general audiences now, IMO.
Any way, this is awesome!

Now THAT is interesting! Clark is #2 worldwide? Do you happen have a link or something? I tried looking up various "most famous fictional characters" and got a bunch of garbage like #1 being Forrest Gump. Blerg!
I'd tend to agree: Clark beats Frank. Frank only has a handful of non-team-up stories and gets mentioned every October, Clark has thousands of non- team-up stories and is 365/24/7.
Double double post post

I don't have a link, unfortunately. Never save them, unless they're related to school. I *think* it was an article posted/written by/sponsored/something by Guinness World Records but I could be wrong. And the article is a few years old now. I'm not sure how permanent those rankings were meant to be, though you'd expect them to be fairly stable, right?
