I do wonder if this upcoming generation will be the last console to give us a physical option. Certainly I can imagine them being more forceful about digital only with PS6 when that rolls around in 2028 or whenever.
Speaking of digital what are people’s thoughts on the PS Plus collection for PS5? I think it’s great that we will have a great selection of PS4 games over on the new console and some I have yet to play anyway...
I think its amazing. I may not get a game at launch (might wait for price to go down on Miles) but there are several games that I have never played through like RE7 and Days Gone. Alot of people are hating on it bc they already have the games, but thats partly why Sony did this. A collection like this will make it easier to drop discs and move towards the digital PS5 and they really did do a good job of selecting big name games

Sadly I had plans to reserve a PS5 at GameStop. Sadly I wasn't given 15-20 minutes to drive over before they told me there I didn't get a chance to preorder the system. I pretty much have wrote the company off after this fiasco and will buy a system in spring 2021 more than likely.
Now I can understand the rush to do preorders and get those slots and people storming in . But the whole reserve sheet and all with someone saying I'm on my way to do this...well...just irked me really.
I don't buy into scalpers and I don't buy into having to race over to just reserve a system.
Plus the only game I wanted was Spider-Man so I can get that Miles Morales game for PS4 and play it. So save me the trouble really of getting a PS5. So I gotta thank GameStop for this one. They saved me a lotta money at Christmas time due to that.

I managed to snag a preorder for Playstation 5.

Yea I think its smarter to wait. I'll probaly get mine next holiday. Horizon should be out and GOW ragnarok hopefully should be around then.

Kind of annoyed that PS4 Miles seems to be very elusive - neither PlayStation Store nor Amazon UK has it advertised yet. Part of me wonders whether I should wait and get the combo game with 2018’s Spider-Man on PS5 since the original won’t get an update for previous buyers. Or ask for it for Christmas alongside Outer Worlds and Star Wars Squadrons.
And then I have to elect whether I should get a PS VR in the next few months (Black Friday or Jan Sales) or wait to see if PS5 gets the inevitable new exclusive version...

Now is the worst time to get PSVR bc it more than likely will get a revision within the next 2 years. Visually, it looked bad when released and that will be exacerbated when the PS5 is out and you play them side by side. Id wait

If you want VR I would recommend getting the Oculus Quest 2 when it drops on the 13th. Assuming you don't have an issue with Facebook.

With Playstation 5 coming out , Sony did an update to trophy system and well they upped it a big degree. A lot of you will notice it when you log in , some won't yet. I was thinking Sony done got hacked and people were fucking around. But its the new system and your gonna see big level increases.

For right now the PlayStation 5 can only do 12 bit 4:2:2 YUV HDR at 120hz from it's HDMI 2.1 port using a ultra high speed HDMI cable. It can only do 12 bit 4:4:4 HDR at 60hz with it's port using a ultra high speed HDMI cable.

Scalping is becoming more and more an issue in the technology market and gaming in particular, the fact that a number of the limited presales are now on ebay going for well over twice retail and reports of some as high as 10,000$ is infuriating and I can only hope no one's dumb enough to buy them.

Why does someone have to be dumb to buy it? If you really want it and can afford it, then do you
Why does someone have to be dumb to buy it? If you really want it and can afford it, then do you
Well, they're just encouraging scalpers to buy more release consoles just to flip them then, aren't they. Arguably this is more the fault of the manufacturer for releasing with such limited availability, and people who buy on release are already kind of crazy because there are no games and some bit of rubber will probably wear out after a couple of years and make the console eject the disc and beep constantly or whatever. And then the slimline will release that's half the size, silent, and covered with white chamois leather.
-
Man, 80 euros for Demon's souls. (Amazon)
Ouch. Prices are also next gen it seems lol.
This is getting a bit ridiculous really.
-
Why does someone have to be dumb to buy it? If you really want it and can afford it, then do you
Because it is price gouging and it is illegal in most places

what does that have to do with a person being dumb for buying the console?
-
dumb was probably the wrong word, short sighted would be the better one, as it actively encourages the continuing of this black market that's currently infesting the tech industry. And price gouging, which in addition to being outright illegal in most places as said, is a scummy practice in general

A a lot of people (A LOT) are growing more and more angry at Sony's insane online only sales to retailers for the last few weeks as each time the sales by 90% are ending up in scalpers hands as bots are bidding and taking within minutes huge numbers of PS5 orders. People have complained to Sony to release the machines to retailers but thus far they are doing this still.
Me and a guy at one retailer joked how stupid this is getting and all its doing is alienating the customer base to where a number of people likely will say the hell with getting a new console as time passes. That Target , Best Buy etc will announce in store sales and each time they are pushed to online only where its failing for a lot of people repeatedly.
-
Honestly considering all the madness, the insane prices and all i'm just going to wait for mid 2021 before buying a ps5.
-
I will just be waiting until there’s a bundle with Horizon 2 next year myself. Hopefully with Miles Morales included.
-
I've come to accept that I just won't be getting one for awhile. When Walmart did their release I actually managed to get a PS5 in the cart three times, even got close to paying for it once, before the site crapped. Best Buy sold out off their entire stock and returns while I was at work and no Target within a 50 mile radius have any. My last hope was Amazon but I've been monitoring the site and it's been saying unavailable for the longest. Of course I popped over to eBay and saw the outrageous prices people are asking. Now I've been scalped before buying Gunpla and action figures, usually with a $40-$80 price increase, but I refuse to give some scumbag $1000 dollars. It's sad that my copy of Miles Morales will remain uplayed but I'm going to suck it up and buy the PS4 version.
-
So today Sony repeated its same deal the last few weeks where people have told them to just fucking release the console to retailers and let people go get them. To actually wait a few weeks , build a big supply and ship them to stores for people. Instead what has happened was they again did online only and reports are within a couple minutes scalpers and bots snagged more.
Yes Covid is an issue but can be managed with well placed lines and more to make it work. This what they are doing is becoming a complete failure.

Sony are such masters of self-sabotage it's actually incredible that they've managed such a good recent track record for exclusives from their own studios.

To be fair a lot of that is due to the strong people in charge of studios and giving them time needed. They likely saw how Microsoft failed by rushing releases , closing studios and more. And decided ...if Days Gone needs 6-9 more months of work...damn it we give it that time.
But the main leadership of the company has always been a nightmare to deal with since they exploded into the film and game industries. In Hit & Run back in mid 90's when Sony bought Columbia they paid an insane amount for Columbia (way more than they should have) and paid for Peters & Guber on huge salaries they shouldn't have. They once instead of backing the winning home video format of the 1980's (VHS) decided to produce Betamax players. (that was a huge failure and they had a chance to do VHS but balked)
Its a company that stumbled onto Playstation when they watched Nintendo walk away from the deal. Its only the fact the people in charge was angry at Nintendo and an executive pushed them to produce the system , they may have never done it.
As me and a buddy joked , they don't care about scalpers or bots. They see the systems selling like crazy online. So they don't realize the backlash people are having.

Yeah, any sane company would be looking at people willing to pay $1000 for a launch console and thinking how to take that money themselves. Maybe monogram engraved cases, a plastic special edition statuette, or something stupid like that. Instead they let scalpers drive the narrative of them being the corporation that ruined Christmas for all the little kiddies who didn’t get their Fortnite player.
-
Groups are now bragging how they have gotten thousands of systems using bots.

I've seen this on Twitter a bit, scalpers flexing like they've done something impressive or admirable. At the end of the day Sony doesn't give two shits who buys the system as long as it's sold.

With controllable T-Rexes and Jellyfish? Yep. I feel like even demos full stop are a niche concept these days.
EDIT: Found a video with the contents of the famed 'Demo 1'. Ah, the feels!

It would be hilarious if this blew up in Sony's face.
It's not like our PS4s don't work perfectly fine. If people have to wait a year to get a PS5, they may find another use for those 5 bills in the meantime.
I'm the opposite of an early adopter so this doesn't really affect me personally but designing a system that deliberately abuses your early adopters is asking for it bigtime.
They could find themselves in a position where when the systems finally come to brick and mortar retail the audience is like, "Nah, I'm good".

This very well could happen. A lot of their PS5 titles are due to release on PS4 for a year or 2 . So its not like people need the PS5 right now. The stench of scalpers and more irked may never update. This has seemingly blew up in their faces.

Anyone with the means to get a PS5 should get one as it truly is better than the PS4. Sure many games are cross-generational but the PS5 is worth the upgrade. Ive played the PS4 version of Miles Morales and Spiderman and compared that to the PS5 Miles and the PS5 looks significantly better than both, not to mention runs better and loads faster. Its hard to go back to the PS4 after messing with the PS5 for a while. Of course if you never have, then you dont know what you are missing. Even the controller feels like an upgrade with the DS4 feeling lesser in comparison
-
I think because of the fact that it’s backwards compatible and will be getting a decent PS4 collection via PS Plus, plus with Horizon 2 out next year, I will be getting it a year earlier than I would typically do. Plus there’s games out now that I will just wait until the PS5 edition is released. I will likely also be a lot more selective with the games now that the prices are higher and I have less time to play everything in general.
-
Honestly, at this point there is no game i really, really want to buy yet on PS5 so i can wait. Plus, you know the old wisdom, don't buy from the first batch of a new machine.
But i will buy one for sure. I'm kinda of a Sony guy.
Wish they would make them less ugly though. I mean, save for the first one the playstations have kinda of an ugly design imo.

You thought the PS4 was ugly? I thought that was their sleekest design right out the gate, especially with it being as small as it was. I will say the look of the PS5 has grown on me bt the thing is massive and I dont think I'll ever get used to it as its an eye sore. I am interested in seeing what it will look like when the slim version comes out years from now

Ps4 wasn't that bad true enough, the worst offender are the ps2, 3 and 5.
