Sony will not be shutting down the PS3 and PS Vita stores.
The PSP store will be shutting down, though.
A good step, but they still need to fix the CMOS battery issue. Even more so now that it's confirmed to be an issue with the PS5 as well.

From what MetalJesus has claimed in a video , Sony is now looking at this issue. He brought up that Sony needs to issue a firmware update on all consoles that way the games will play forever as collectors will want certain games and systems to play.
-
In spite of all this PS5s still fly off the shelves. Sony doesn't care.
They do care. The PS5 is sold at a loss. Sony is willing to do that as the sales of accessories and software can make up the difference. No one is gonna buy controllers, headsets and games if the sold console is sitting in a scalpers garbage.

The CMOS problem is not as big of an issue people are making it out to be. It's an easy fix. Replacing that battery is not hard.

It's not about simply replacing the battery. The system has to be connected online after the battery is replaced. Once the servers go down, when the CMOS battery dies (and it will, they all do eventually), your system is a brick even if you replace it.

I mean, there are workarounds, but Sony probably doesn't want to incentivize them since the entire reason that the Vita had its extremely unpopular proprietary memory cards was to prevent (or rather, delay) exactly those type of workarounds.
Now that the store is at least somewhat secure (though I wish that they brought back the previous version of the PC PSN store, at least for the Vita and PS3 since the console versions of those stores suuuuck and the new PC PSN Store sucks just as much, in different ways; who the hell thought that it was a good idea to not give you the chance to organize the Sales lists by at least name or genre, and why aren't they showing screenshots/video or lists of DLC in the individual games' pages?), I can go back to being pissed off about how they handled Studio JAPAN, which has consistently been putting out some of the best games of every generation it was active in.

They could fix it with a patch, but considering the same issue is on the PS5, it seems like this isn't really a priority for them. The only other option is to hack your console, which is nonsense. You shouldn't have to hack your console just to make it do it's basic core function.
-
it can be fixed with a firmware update, the reason it probably isn't a huge priority is because the CMOS battery lasts for 10-20 years before it starts wearing out

10 years for the PS4 will be 2023. That's not that far off. And if you go off what they were doing with the PS3 before reversing the decision, it was 15 years after the launch of the PS3 when they started shutting down online functionality. That would be 2028 with the PS4. These things are coming up sooner than you think.

So basically a couple days ago Sony revealed they may not have PS5's mass produced on retail atore shelves until 2023. This launch has to be the worst in history.

Maybe they should reach out to the scalpers and make them official Sony retail partners.
I'm not saying this is all because it makes absolutely no sense to call a product a "digital edition" because it doesn't have a drive that can read digital optical discs, but I'm going to take it as a win for common sense anyway.

Its been said scalpers have had more inventory than actual retailers. Its became a joke for the company at this stage. For months people have pushed Sony to start direct ordering from retailers (think of the old JCPenny model where you could order something from store and wait on it to come in). Sony refuses to do it and were in this situation.

The Epic vs Apple trial revealed that Sony charges developers for enabling crossplay on PS4. No wonder more games don't have it.

It feels weird getting email marketing about PS5 games, like it’s a normal console that you can buy in shops. I’ve literally never even seen one in the flesh.

They advertise the games like its normal on Facebook and 90% of the responses are just pissed off people angry at not having systems at this point. Were a year in and the company can't do simple direct ordering and its a joke.

LOL...My local Best Buy had at least 40 behind the registers a couple of weeks ago. With that said, should they not advertise bc its hard to find? That wouldnt make sense as not only are there millions sold but most PS5 games are also on PS4 so its not costing any extra in marketing

People have been pushing that Sony let retailers take orders and they fill orders more or less. To combat the scalpers online. It would be the old JCPenny model where you'd order something and wait for weeks/months to get things. They have refused to do this a year in because they love that scalper bot money.
In fact comically Wal-Mart had a drop today or yesterday....and it too was filled with scalper bots who had site break. As this video details it again was a terrible fail. Sony knows this , they know its been a year of bullshit online and don't care.

Retailers themselves have done a poor job in combating the bots. Best Buy tried to pay wall being able to buy a PS5 behind their $200 service. Walmart announcing drops makes so scalpers can get ready to.

It was a bad 2+ weeks for Sony. From an Executive being fired for a situation which I can't discuss here (google folks) and the news hit Sony didn't have a good Black Friday sales deal and came in 2nd behind Microsoft. A fact many have said the company not releasing in store finally had the effect of people moving onto another game system. Which was bound to happen as the company has spent a year appeasing scalpers online.
Sony is now scrambling and is launching their own version of Game Pass on the PS4/PS5 game systems. Called Scorpion the service will now combine Playstation Plus and Playstation Now together in 2022. It will come in 3 payable tiers with one big tier allowing you to play PSP , PS1 , PS2 and PS3 games as well. (Its likely why they are now looking to add trophy support to older games now) .
Of course a big solution would be to push for in store releases and curb the online situations were seeing play out. But its been months and Sony never learned its lesson and likely will really spend a couple years falling way behind X-Box now. (Its easier to get an X-Box right now)

I don't see Xbox taking the lead. Even though game pass is the best deal in gaming right now there still isn't any games that warrant buying a Series X for. It just got it's killer app in Halo Infinite.

Well right now that system is easier to get and consumers can grow tired of one company not getting their act together. Its true the current Xbox doesn't have a lot of exclusives right now.
But its a...we can get this game system right now situation. Game pass is powering the system sales wise for now...til the exclusives come.
Sony really needs to sit and push getting PS5s into retailers hands. To cut scalpers out clearly and if its doing direct orders...they should do it.

Eh Sony is selling everything they send out. Getting outsold on Black Friday just means they didn't have as much supply for the Holiday. Right now they've sold about 13 million PS5s compared to 8 million Xbox (mostly series S too)

Someone a couple months ago brought up that Sony had sales of like 7-9 million units sold. But ONLY HALF were active PS5's due to the massive hoarding by scalpers. So a lot are sitting at places for greed reselling.

They have close to 13 million sold and the estimation was at most 1 million were with scalpers. More than that would make zero sense. All consoles bought by scalpers ultimately end up with consumers or else they wouldn’t been scalping the consoles lol. In the end they are trying to make a profit so they’re not going to keep spending 500 bucks on PS5s if they aren’t able to flip to customers later on. Scalpers are trying to make money. They’re not buying Ps5s to keep them in a warehouse. If that was the case, they would have stopped buying them months ago

They said they’ve sold more software and made more revenue (not shocking since there are more free to play games now) than they did in the first year of the PS4. Exact numbers is probably in the financial reports I’m too lazy to pull up

Sorry , but not every person wanting a PS5 is gonna go to scalpers to pay double or triple to get a console. Sure some will pay the price to get one. A number of scalpers once Sony gets off its ass and realizes this is a major problem will do a solution (its why they are doing the merging of PS Plus and Now. They realize that X-Box is gaining on them now...and trying this move due to Game Pass)
But with Sony's lead at 4-5+ million consoles and shrinking due to supply and demand issues , It wouldn't shock me that many are like F-CK this and not willing to pay that price.
Just because a Scalpers load up hoarding wise with PS5's doesn't mean all of them are moving as fast. A number if Sony ever gets its act together will suddenly be throwing them on e-bay at a loss (which they deserve).

First, you're overestimating the amount of scalpers who are buying PS5s. It is nowhere near as many as you think. It's basically 1 million at the highest estimate since most of the consoles are being bought by the millions who are trying to get PS5s. And you're ignoring that Xboxs are getting scalped as well. Not as many because there isn't as much demand but they are still being scalped.
And second, scalpers won't continue to buy PS5s if they aren't able to sell them. If they have their PS5s stuck in a warehouse and are unable to sell them, they are a losing a ton of money. The reality is that scalpers exist because because people actually spend more than market value to buy PS5s from them. The scalped PS5s ultimately end up with consumers anyway. If your theory that no one wants to buy them from scalpers was true, they wouldn't be scalped anyway. That is basic economics
And again, Xboxs also get scalped. Microsoft has actually struggled with manufacturing so they haven't been able to make as many as PS5s and there isn't as much demand but they are also getting scalped. If you have any research on PS5s stuck in warehouses, I'd like to see it. But the reality is scalpers want to sell those off and make a profit. If they didn't, they'd have stopped buying them a while back and again, not as many scalpers get PS5s as you think. It's very silly to me because 100,000 people on reddit will wait on a drop of 1000 PS5s and when they don't get it, they blame scalpers. Like why are you blaming scalpers and not the 100,000 people with you on reddit trying to buy those same consoles. For all the supply and demand issue, Microsoft is actually struggling with making consoles more. Sony's lead has increased pretty much every quarter
