LOL...Xavier knew. He's proven to be one of the more unethical telepaths that has gotten away with abusing his powers. He was in the heads of all his students without their consent or knowledge and he's even mindwiped and brainwashed them. There is no way that he was oblivious.
Funny the problem the telepaths have:
- they are accused to spy and they are treated accordingly;
- they don't pry and are accused to be indifferent.
Xavier isn't in love with Jean. That was just one single panel that has been memed, He is her teacher.
One of my favorite interactions between them was the wedding issue were he was her teacher and paternal figure, he was so proud and happy for her. That how their interactions should be defined, not just by a dumb panel
God, i hate what they have done to Xavier.
because of that panel people think Xavier is worse that magneto. It was creepy, but xavier never acted on it and even him forgot about that.
No need for all that outrage
-
I think it's been referenced recently.
Also Onslaught had a page and a half on it
Yes, and it was also more than just one panel. How about when Xavier says he once thought he loved Jean as he did Moira? I forget the issue but I read it recently. Though controversial I think it is normal. What isn't normal is acting on the urge or using his power over Jean to try something. That would make him a sexual predator.
Xavier though of Storm too. Right after she cut her hair he thought about how he hadn't realized how female and attractive she was. I re-read this issue lately also when I was re-reading the Claremont years. I remember thinking.. yikes! Xavier was definitely a sexual being.

Oops, sorry. I'm not angry, sorry if it reads like I were, I still have problems with the english language.
I do dislike some of the things done to Xavier.

The hip new thing is to blame Xavier for everything and build him a rap sheet of bad things he did "super secretly as a secret in secret". This is what happens when some writer tries to 'deconstruct' a character retroactively that's typically been portrayed as being pure as the driven snow.

Or it could be humanizing an otherwise mythological iconoclast. There are a million stories where Magneto is portrayed as evil but redeemed. The opposite should hold true for Xavier —good, but crooked. Muddying the waters and showing grays is great, and forces the individual X-Men to make their own ethical choices.

Yeah, that only happens when the writing is good and doesn't blow up in editorial's face.

I agree. Some times people try to make the characters deeper and complex with this but 99% of the times they just end up looking bad.

I get your point but i think Xavier works better as a teacher and paternal figure. When they try to make him edgy he just becomes unlikeable, for what? there are already a lot of edgelords. I hope Marvel never applies that philosophy to Jean.
-
Clearly there’s a difference in opinion, if not taste.
I’m not advocating for an “edgelord” Xavier.

I understand. I'm just a little worried because that's usually were that ends. Not always but usually.

I think there's room for him to be a fallible human while also being a teacher/paternal figure. That's why I liked what Mike Carey was doing with Xavier he re-examined Xavier's choices through a modern lens and (through the framing of M-Day) asked the question if it was all worth it in the end. The problem as you pointed out is when they lean to heavily into "******* Xavier".

When you like a character, you like him/her for being a likable human, faillible, three-dimensional and all… like you are, like we are all.
The times when he/she is depicted in a way unusual are easily forgotten… you simply don't recognize him/her anymore. And when someone says: "Oh, he/she is an *******!" you don't understand.
I don't want to be off-topic, but I remember faillible, very faillible Xavier, I don't remember "*******" Xavier…

Doesn't Charles Xavier have his own thread?
Doesn't Charles Xavier have his own thread?
He has. Strangely he is more discussed outside.
-
Well, so much for Appreciating Jean Grey in her own thread then.
-
I appreciate her very much: she is one of the most sane, stable and kindest X-men.
"Young Jean" much less… I must admit.

Teen Jean being more reckless was so cool. I love Jean being kind but with adult Jean it can go to the extreme. Teen Jean didn't care.
-
Teen Jean felt like a natural extension of Simonson's Jean, or even Morrison's, in that she was kind and felt like Jean (mostly under Lemire and Bunn, but even under Bendis) but was more assertive and fiery. She kind of felt that way a few times in Red, too. The best Jean is one who is kind, compassionate, and emotional. When she's docile it makes her feel depthless.
-
I think X-Men Red's Jean might be my favorite portrayal of the character. She was kind and strong, had her own vision for mutantkind (not Xavier's, not Magneto's, not Scott's). And she was a hell of a leader.

God yes. I miss this Jean so much, and hope that's how she acts under Hickman.

Really? I know you and I had a high-five moment about the DPS being a phoenix-in-refrigerator story, but I recently bought the Phoenix hardcover on a lark.
I think the BEST Jean is when she's pushing people aside due to impatience, frustration, and boredom. The unmitigated sass I heard when Phoenix says "fine" to a concerned Dr. MacTaggert. I would LOVE to read a Phoenix Saga without all the purple prose. My tastes aren't common in these parts, but I spent the entire time reading it, imagining the awkwardness of the imbalanced relationships drawn by Frank Quitely and concise dialog by BKV.

I don't think that they're mutually exclusive tbh. Jean can be a sarcastic bitch when she wants to be and when she's written properly - she has personality and wit. She should be a generally kind and compassionate person, but she should be ruled by her emotions, that's the key to Jean's character. All the sass should be included in the package.
-
Jean has a dry sense of humor, also she is kind but don't try to hurt her or her friends. Girl has a temper, that mostly of times she keeps cool
-
I wouldnt say she has a temper. Has she blown up? Yes but most times have been justified and it doesnt happen very often. Jean isnt one that just has emotional outbursts and rages on people regularly. She by and large is in control of her emotions 99% of the time.

It would get canned either way because of Hickman

I don't think X-men red ended because of any other book. It just ran his course, it was created to reintroduce Jean and it did wonderfully.

That is correct. The book only told one story and Taylor wasnt creating subplots or dangling plotlines that would have continued after the Nova arc was over. Red was very self contained and deliberate

What do you mean "Has she rejoined the X-Men yet?"? Like, she rejoined the X-Men before, during, and after Red.
If you mean, has she rejoined the main and only X-Men team? Well she's been all the pages in Disassembled. And a main character in the Marvelous X-Men. So yes. But right now I would say the "X-Men" is a fractured concept where 80% of them are trapped in the altered reality construct Nate made and the remaining have been in Uncanny or X-Force. None of them have intersected yet.
