Just wanted to poke my head in and say ...I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE AT MARVEL IS WRITING A GOOD NAMOR!!!!!!!!
It's about darn time.
As to the current topic....Namor is straight. Like super straight. Namor doesn't discriminate when he comes to women. Black, White, Green, or Gills if the woman is confident, strong , and respectable Namor is at the very least interested in her if not all about her.
Not sure what you are trying to say with this?
Namor says that he leaves his Kingdom showings for women he is seducing. The Queen he kissed is a women....
I know it's weird (specially since it's clear that the writer was poking a little fun at Namor) but in the Marvel Universe there are probably human mutant women that look worst than that Queen does by our standards. Are those women less than and should not be loved by a Prince such as Namor? The answer is no.

I also am very glad that someone is writing a good Namor at last!!!
What are your thoughts on Namor's sexuality?
I'm going with pansexual.
As to the panels you posted and the question: Namor doesn't mess around with kids which is what Hope was and he was discouraging her in his own way because he does like red heads (Lady Dorma) and thought the comics have stated that Namor pursues women (a lot) there is a case to be made for him being Bisexual. Atlanteans are much less interested in species or gender effecting their sexuality imo.

Someone asked about my fancasts if Namor was ever going to be in a movie and I thought I would share the link here.

The way I read it is Namor is one of the most straight superheroes in a very old conservative way.
The way Namor relates to:
Men = beat the hell out of them
Women= sex and romanticism, companionship and friendship
His sexual interest has always been 100% women. I've observed that in an almost barbaric way he pursues the females he likes and see other men simply as the competition (Reed and Sue, Cyclops and Emma Frost). He is the ultimate alpha male and a guy that probably consider all other men as his inferior as he probably enjoys proving himself against them as a sport to impress on women, the final prize. Probably outside of the Invaders and some very old friends atlanteans like Lord Vashti Namor doesn't have too many close guy friends.
Also one of the few or perhaps the only superhero that at a time when every hero had a male sidekick, he always preferred to have the close company of a woman. First Namora, then Namorita and in X-Men Hope got very close to him. The relationship with both under age girls Namorita and Hope in a non romantic way and mostly as a protective older brother.
-
I raised it up because Dennis Hopeless said that the Secret Wars: House of M mini almost had Namor and Quicksilver in a gay relationship.
That is an alternate universe, though, so different rules apply.

Im not sure I see Namor as wife beater... or that being conservative is that strong of a relation to being a wife beater. However, I'm not from America.
I do feel however, that Namor has shown only interest in Women. I also feel that at times he goes out of his way to show the woman he interested in that he is, can be, and wants to be everything a woman would ever want in the man. He has the power, the money, the status, and so on. I also feel that in terms of love he treats his woman in the same manor as he does his kingdom. Putting it first before him, self- sacrificing his wants, and at times causing himself harm and/or pain to ensure their happiness. This is most evident with his relationship with the Invisible Woman.

Woha! You are misunderstanding my post. Where did I imply that Namor was a wife beater? On the contrary, he is a women's protector. If it was the word "barbaric" I meant to say he will be persistent and not respect when the woman has already a companion.

Has everyone forgotten the flower shaped alien currently in Namor's possession? It was introduced in the Hyperion series and gave powers to a bunch of carnies. It could also influence behavior.

House of M 2015 was supposed to revolve around Namor and Pietro being in a relationship and the main reason for the motivations behind them conspiring against Erik. Marvel scrapped that because they didn't want to deal with people trying to confirm if the two characters were bi or gay in the main 616 and they said they didn't want to do that unless it had lasting effects, however iirc they made Hercules and Wolverine in a relationship in an AU. Link
Also an alternate cover was discarded as a choice because of this decision:

In this case Im glad it didn’t happen. There is already a large enough stigma of men wearing speedos in America to have the Champion of the speedo forced outed in an alternate reality book.

Another Gif from "To Destroy a Tyrant" A time displaced Namor refuses to kill a defeated gladiator in Nero's arena in ancient Rome. Nero orders Namor to be chained and taken to be sacrificed to the fire demon. Of course Namor had to be enough time away from water and fighting in the arena so he cannot break mere chains. Or perhaps the time travel has some drying effects as well. Trying to explain why he would be having trouble here.

these gifs are great.
I remember speaking with a 70+ year old Star Trek fan who was around then the og series aired and we spoke about Spock and Namor and how similar they looked. Even that Spock as a blonde friend named Jim. She told me that the creator Roddenberry would have been about 18 when Namor was in the comics and he was a fan of science fiction and comics and we theorized that he might have been subconsciously influenced by Namor's looks and being a half breed for the creation of Spock. So seeing the name Vulcanus again reminded me of that.

I like this no nonsense Namor too. It's about time he started letting sea dwellers know who's boss and gathering allies because his surface friends are never around when he needs them. Best Sub-Mariner characterization since Fraction's Defenders.

I was rereading Defenders and Invaders back to back and just how did I not see Machan? I remembered reading Defenders and getting so upset that Machan's ears were rounded I mentioned this to a friend and I thought that Magno had forgotten the pointed Atlantean ears, but now in hindsight I see that it was a clue and done on purpose because others do have the pointed ears.
Also if you notice in Invaders, the first time we see a close up of Namor's eyes in the present after he woke up from his nightmare they are blue with black sclera but then in the end when he is closer/speaking to Machan and unleashing his power you see they are completely black. It's these little details that just make the comics *chef kiss* amazing.

Wow. I didn't notice Machan's ears at all. I was just getting creeped out about him with his constantly clasped hands.

If they couldn't see underwater, they sure could see them when Defenders of the Deep attacked that sealab thingee. Black Panther, who is supposed to have all those heightened senses, was staring him right in the face. Cap was in his face underwater ... and I think at the sealab too.
Instead, we get Jim Hammond, who hasn't even seen Namor in this state, having to tell Cap that something was wrong with Namor. #RealFriends
This could be a coloring error but it could also be whatever is influencing Namor knows when to hide its presence, that would be cool.
Sure, it could be a coloring error. I admit that. But why automatically do a bad faith reading on Cap is the thing I was mostly trying to point out. Is he a different kind of friend then Jim? Sure. Jim's more in-touch with his sensitive side than either Steve or Namor or even Bucky are. From Steve Namor gets blunt honesty, Steve's the type of friend who will tell you straight-up when you're being an idiot, but he'd also take a bullet for you in a heartbeat. From Jim comes the sympathy and more compassionate nature. They are different. That's why they make a good team *shrug*. If they were all the same they wouldn't have pushed each other to be as effective as they were as Invaders. Doesn't mean Steve doesn't care. Obviously he does, he dropped everything to run to Namor despite Tony beseeching him not to and despite the fact that the Avengers chair, T'Challa, probably will not be too happy with Steve for abandoning his post when there is both a war with Atlantis on the horizon and some sort of Vampire Civil War that Jason Aaron is trying to set up.
I empathize a bit with the rock and the hard place Steve is stuck in here. He is at odds with the American government. When Ross complained to Steve that T'Challa was the Avengers chair, which put the Avengers under the purview of Wakanda instead of America, Steve told Ross straight up, I don't work for you and the Avengers do not belong to any one country. And now he's taking a leave of the Avengers to go try and save someone they see as a foe, someone they are prepared to go to war with. Should Steve fail in any of this, he'll have zero recourse after it, he would have burned all his bridges. And still he's doing it. That's a pretty big declaration of love for Namor. He showed this same single-mindedness when saving Bucky during Brubaker's run, if we all recall. It's who Steve is, maybe he's not the most expressive of guys but his actions speak for him.
...Also, it was Steve, during Robinson's All New Invaders run, that organized and planned Namor's rescue from the Kree, recruiting Jim and Bucky into it.
-
What is really interesting to me about this War Ghosts storyline is that it's been seeded very devout Namor fans. If you've been gobbling up all his appearances you are getting a complex story about him that's lost on people only checking out Avengers.

Oh, for sure. I love some things that Jason Aaron has done with Thor and others I don't care too much so we will have to wait and see. It could be just mischaracterization of how Cap would behave with Namor by Jason Aaron or it could be that everything has a purpose and this entity that we think is controlling Namor knows when to hide itself. Any way I'm glad the story is being picked up by Zdarsky because he seems to have a good handle of all the characters even though I have a hunch the War on Realms will have some deep connections with this Namor story.
