What is really interesting to me about this War Ghosts storyline is that it's been seeded very devout Namor fans. If you've been gobbling up all his appearances you are getting a complex story about him that's lost on people only checking out Avengers.
I don't care for Aaron's characterization or story at all. I follow along just when Namor pops up though.
I feel like I have been waiting years for this, getting into Namor back in 2014, and back into comics after a long absence I started tracking down everything about the Sub-Mariner I could, and I missed out on the last Invaders and thankfully I wasn't following squadron supreme having not known what happened until later or I would have been very cross (I still am! Sentry shouldn't have been able to do that to Namor his skin is super strong and withstood lasers!)
So seeing this unfold is a real treat because its NOT just a what happens next story but Chip is digging back into the past and playing up the relationships between them. It is a very good time to be Namor fan (I hope) cause he is FINALLY getting some well needed solid writing.

Thor-El What an Icon! I love that it moves. I haven't seen that panel around before, do you happen to know which issue it was from?

Sure thing IW. That's from Hulk 10, 11 and 12 from 2009. A story by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness that makes the Defenders pawns in a game between the Grandmaster and the Collector. one of my favorite comics stories ever, mostly for the art since I love McGuinness. The cool thing is the pawns were taken from crucial moments in time, Namor had just witnessed the death of Dorma and was being promised her resurrection if he win the fights. The Collector had Tiger Shark teeth laced with adamantium.

After reading this story I've always wished Ed McGuinness would do a Namor ongoing, or a Defenders revival, to me he does the perfect Namor and Defenders plus I love the way McGuinness orchestrates fights and action. Here's some links to comixology and the three covers.

I'm not a huge Jeph Loeb fan, but I will say that he is one of the few writers who remembers Lady Dorma. :)
And yes, McGuiness obviously loves John Buscema Namor.

Didn't McGuiness say he's loved to do a Namor ongoing?
Great covers! And the cool thing was McGuiness did opposite teams for those covers as variants.

You could tell McGuinness was having fun! Isn't it funny how those two Elders of the Universe in this story ended up in the MCU!

I can get behind that team too, the art looks great and so far Chip is doing great with Namor. :D

I'd like to see a Namor book that alternates between Tomm Coker and Dustin Weaver.
Weaver could do epic stories that focus more on Atlantis and showing off larger scale "widescreen" style battles and Coker could do more Namor centric stories that are more gritty or explore Namor psychologically.

I'm trying to think if we've seen a Dustin Weaver Namor. I do like Weaver's art. And I thought Coker was perfect for a period piece with Namor. Now, I'm wondering about what those gritty stories would be like.

Anyone familiar with this comic? Its now in my Want List but Comixology doesn't has it. this is the second What If volume from 1989. Art is by Ron Wilson who I always liked. You know it has to be good if Hobo Namor was part of that original avengers lineup.

Well, found it online and I'd give it a "C" grade, for those wanting to check it out it is on Issuu which is a reliable safe website that samples magazines.

Sigh. Again? Hasn't this been done to death yet? I already know that somehow they will favor aquaman or make it so aquaman wins cause it's what happens in most of these things.

I’d really love to see a Namor ongoing from Robert Venditti and Lee Garbett or Doug Braithwaite as the creative team. Their Valiant work is beyond phenomenal.

Welcome to the thread, Shadowcat!
I don't think I've seen Doug Braithwaite do a Namor ... but I do like his art -- his Loki stuff was so good! Lee Garbett did Namor, and an amazing double headed Tiger Shark, in Fear Itself the Deep. In fact, Garbett gave great advice about doing an underwater book. Something like, "Be very careful about placement of air bubbles near character's butts." LOL!

I don't usually follow the rumbles, but I'll try to check that out. Though, like ImperiusWrecked, I can predict who will probably win. ;p The exposure could be a good thing. Maybe. I'm always amazed at how little people know about Namor.
Thanks for posting the link!

I always liked What If? I don't think I read that one, though. I'm not really feeling that unkempt look for Namor. Thanks for the link!
Just read it ... what happened to Namor? He was there on the next to the last page, and then in the final fight he's not there! And worse, he's gets excluded from the statue!
Also, Iron Man / Punisher. Heh

I would love a Namor ongoing. One in which Atlantis doesn't get destroyed for a change. Also: Attuma. I know he's redundant as a Namor foe, but, there's just something about seeing these two battle one another that always excites me. Kinda like a Hulk vs. Thing deal, for those that know what I mean.

Oh, agree 100%. I like Tiger shark too but Attuma is Namor's definite main villain. Just like Loki is Thor's.

For those fans of the 60's cartoon like me, this is an interesting article about the creator of the theme songs for those shows, very interesting history.

http://www.filmmusicsociety.org/news_events/features/2015/071415.html?isArchive=071415
And the video where he discusses the creation of each song and sings them himself. https://youtu.be/iJcJbLE6gks
It was a real threat for me listening at this guy and getting background information about these shows.

lol, he had a chance to be dramatic with Namor and that is so true XD
