I hope it is permanent,It is a great addition.
Atlantean technology, most likely. The scientists have been able to change surface dwellers to underwater so why not this?
Invaders 2 is SO GOOD!
There's more time for Steve, but relationship fans will appreciate it.
And there's another costume change ... sort of. LOL!
Also, a hair cut is needed ASAP!

He had access to those powers before, but I think it was temporary, and tied to [spoil]using Neptune's trident as his champion[/spoil], IIRC.
Part of me loves it and agrees, it's a better fit for Namor than[spoil] an airbreather[/spoil]. But part of me is nervous about such a big change ... and how it will be used.
Atlantean technology, most likely. The scientists have been able to change surface dwellers to underwater so why not this?
That looks likely. But I'm also wondering if it doesn't tie into Jason Aaron's Celestials / Prehistoric Avengers plotline? Also, would it explain Namor's other changes? Like his delusions and his black eyes and strength upgrade?
I always say I don't like Namor in a shirt but that shirt is pretty nice :D lol

Also I loved Invaders today, I hope the quality of this just keeps going forever, this is such a good comic and the explanation of his powers is great. I'm greatly looking forward to next month, and Machan is now influencing Namor to a darker path but I hope Namor can resist him, whatever he is, a hallucination or mental control.
[B]In Remembrance of Bill Everett, thanks for making such great characters, art, and stories that we fans still love today.

It's as flamboyant as heck. LOL!
I think it's funny, though, cause WHEN does Namor ever cover himself up, especially when meeting friends? Has Nay lectured him about showing up around the house half-naked? It's like he just threw on a jacket to make himself "presentable." ;p
I'm loving these first two issues. And hoping that Zdarsky doesn't jump the shark.
Machan is an interesting ... symptom. I am also curious about WHY he's there now. Namor doesn't usually have hallucinations. And it also shows how isolated Namor is. If his cast, which we've long been ... complaining about their absence, was there, ONE of them would have surely asked, WHO he was talking to. Perhaps this is also part of Zdarsky's plan. Perhaps Namor's cast is being held prisoner or shunted off on missions away from. All of which tends to point to a villain manipulating events, rather than Namor just being crazy.

I was going to ask Zdarsky about that when he posted that DD 7 pin up. Got to get a twitter account going.
And yes, a sad anniversary for an underrated and amazing creator. That Marie Severin tribute page from Subby's book is perfect and poignant.

I did make a comment about how Bill created them and mentioning how much I loved that daredevil issue and Chip liked that response. I just think that its very fated that in the 80th year one creator is working on two of Bill's characters and is knocking it out of the park so far. I love that tribute page, Marie is one of my favorite namor artists.

LOL, he doesn't want to get on Nay's bad side? XD I really hope Zdarsky has a good explanation for it and also we get to find out why/how Nay was able to do that with the fish in the tank. Can't wait for issue four, i feel things will be revealed there cause of what was on the preview cover.
I liked issue 2 a lot. Liked the Butch Guice artwork a lot more than Magnos'. Too few Butch Guice pages this time tough. I don't remember if Nay and her father are new characters created for this series or if they are old characters.

Bill Everett inking Kirby in Thor are some of the most beautiful Kirby artwork I've ever seen.

Hmm, makes one wonder why not using The Falsworths, as we also wondered why Machlan and not Lord Vashti. Hopefuly the reason is because these new characters are disposable and we will get to see those beloved supporting characters in the near future.

Machan is already known to be not real some kind of hallucination of Namor's mind or someone is using mental control to make Namor see/talk to him as for the Falsworths they would have told if they had met Namor during his amnesisa years I think so that is why Zdarsky introduced the Petersons, I really do hope we get someone from the old crew on the comic soon, but it seems unlikely at this point, Zdarsky did answer my question about why Toro wasn't at the funeral in today's comic and he said that he does have a plan for Toro and him not being there is deliberate Twitter Link so I hope that means he might have other Invaders come in soon.
I hope it is permanent,It is a great addition.
Intriguing. I wonder how far this power goes, and if it is dependent on any item, device, tech, etc. I hope it's not like Gladiator's super strength where there is some invisible beam that greatly enhances his power from afar.
I still want Namor's sea-life influence to be explored. DC does not own that power, anymore than they own somebody flying or having eye-beams.
I am still unclear on the overall end-game that Namor is angling for here. Has he still declared absolute war on any human presence in the seas?
Invaders has explained Namor's new powers:

I like this new ability and think its a fitting addition to Namor's power-set. I too hope it becomes something permanent.

I agree, I think the water manipulation is a cool power set. I also actually really like the black eyes. It makes much more sense for him considering preferred environment.
How long have Namors eyes gone fully black like they are in Invaders? It looks something new to me but I dig it.
I'm liking the upgrade but I'm on the fence about the whole thing. Trying to be patient until more comes out but the situation with Hydro-Man is somewhat strange.
I know a lot of people on this thread don't have much love for Black Panther, but the current issue of the Intergalactic story has an Amnesiac T'challa on an aquatic planet interacting with a race that bares strong resemblance to Atlanteans.
I don't think it's the planet Namor was on in Defenders, but it's still a point of interest. Check it out if you're inclined.

Really? Interesting. I think it would have been cool to have been the Vodan from the Best Defense. Thanks for the heads up. I'll check out it.

I think you might also like the fact that they are portrayed pretty well, getting the drop on T'challa and setting him straight that he's been misinformed.
I agree, I think the water manipulation is a cool power set. I also actually really like the black eyes. It makes much more sense for him considering preferred environment.
I've always liked the idea that the Atlanteans, Namor included, have the third eyelid, that covers their entire eye. It makes sense, given the various levels of light they encounter, from the Abyssmal Plain to the coral reefs, as well as the varying pressures. That way, they could have 'normal' looking eyes and the full black eyes.
How long have Namors eyes gone fully black like they are in Invaders? It looks something new to me but I dig it.
Since his appearance in Jason Aaron's Avengers 9. I really wish one of the Invaders, or even the Peterson's would comment on it. It's not something we've seen before. Though, Esad Ribic gave Shark Namor those kind of eyes in Sub-Mariner the Depths; but that's more of an Alternate Universe Namor.

I think we share the same feelings about the additional powers. But, you know, with Hydroman getting a movie appearance, they aren't going to depower him in the comics.
I think you might also like the fact that they are portrayed pretty well, getting the drop on T'challa and setting him straight that he's been misinformed.
Setting folks straight sounds pretty Atlantean. LOL!
I'm surprised they would get the drop on him ... unless he was underwater.

That's why I was wondering if it's tied to Defenders. It's an entire underwater planet.

The species in question are blue skinned and have "elf" ears. So if they aren't tied to Atlantis overtly, they are pretty clearly intended to be an homage.

It could be Marvel introducing Atlanteans 2.0 just in case they do decide to go with a wankanda vs. atlantis plot for bp2 and they can't use Namor or the Atlanteans? Just a theory.
The aliens in question are the Teku-Maza. They were originally an aquatic race but after being conquered by the Wakanda Empire they were subjected to genetic experimentation and became amphibious. Their planet is called Agwe.
It would be interesting to have them come into contact with Namor and the Atlanteans.
Kind of hard imaging Susan, or most surface women wanting to get up close with that.

Oh, I remember seeing this cover and really liking it -- had that Dagon / Jaws feel. I thought it was a variant.
I hope, WHEN Namor gets his own book, there might eventually be an exploration of the Vodan and their claim that they are the origin of the Atlanteans. I don't think that claim is entirely correctly, however. It is interesting how many 'hidden' underwater cities there in Namor's world, usually accessed by a portal.
The species in question are blue skinned and have "elf" ears. So if they aren't tied to Atlantis overtly, they are pretty clearly intended to be an homage.
Is Coates trying to do Marvel homages in his BP in space run? Like Hickman in his War of the Four Cities arc, with the FF? It is a bit strange that they resemble the Atlanteans so much. Maybe not the blue skin, as I think there's some sort of low oxygen thing that is partially responsible for the blue skin.

Yes, yet another effort to eliminate / diminish Namor and the Atlanteans. sigh.

Ah, so they are amphibious. Thank you for the info!
There was an aquatic planet Triton encountered in the DNA War of Kings stuff, IIRC. But I think they looked more like Triton than the Atlanteans. It could be interesting, but I'm trying to think how many times Namor or the Atlanteans have had cosmic contact / stories. I can only think of two, the Stalker From the Stars one off, and of course, Tamar's ship crash landing on Earth.

LOVED Guice's art, as you can see from my new avatar. :)
I like Magno's work also, but for different reasons. His amazing detail just floors me, and his underwater scenes are gorgeous. But I do like Guice's Namor better. Besides the iconic speedo, he's leaner and more classic than Magno's.

What do you guys think Namor should sound like? Should he have an accent, and what vocal range should he have? Like on a musical scale.

Namor definitely has an accent, English is NOT is first language, his accent is mentioned in Namor, The Sub-Mariner (1990) #26 as sounded French or German, since the woman is not used to Atlantean accents she would have guessed something like that. I think Namor would have a deep baritone, and I always tend to think of his singing voice to be like a opera singer, very deep and dramatic.

The comparison of Namor and Yul Brynner in the King and I has been said to me many times when I try to describe Namor, lol. I wonder why? Must be those haughty looks and Kingly demeanor and that Brynner did go without a shirt several times. lol

I do not think he has a 'gal gadot voice' to be honest, I can't accurately describe what Namor sounds like, and I have yet to find an actor or singer who captures his voice perfectly. However one of my fancasts for Namor Daniel Dae Kim did also play the King in the King and I. However his voice wasn't something I think of when I think of Namor, nor the accent.

He's half Scottish, he should have a thick Glaswegian accent:

That's a clip of the film Under the Skin (the director had Scarlett Johansson drive around and ask Glasgow locals for directions while hidden cameras filmed them); got to love Scarlett nodding like she understood more than one word in ten.
I mean, who would have the nerve to ask Namor to repeat anything?

I'm terrible at voices and music. I think Namor should have a deeper voice, one that could be heard across the battlefield. No tinny voice yelling, Imperius Rex! And he's clearly great at delivering a rousing speech.

Definitely the shirtlessness. ;P It's shorthand for describing alot of the attitude and appeal of Namor, since more people are familiar with Yul Brynner. If that 1950s Sub-Mariner tv show had materialized, I'd have definitely cast Yul Brynner over Richard Egan.
Speaking of voices ... when they finally do put Namor in the movies / tv or in animation, do you want him to speak in Stan Lee Shakespearean or in Bill Everett Sufferin' Shad Slang? Of course, the second would probably be ... updated.

To me Namor will always sound best with a deep semi-Shakespearean voice like that of John Vernon in the 60s cartoon.
