Yep. Bendis is rather infamous for taking characters and doing something that completely goes against their previous incarnations.
(Not really. Someone, either Bendis or Epting, just confused Kate and Kathy.)
Didn't "Kathy" die in Grayson?
Didn't "Kathy" die in Grayson?
Yes, but I think Bendis or Epting got them confused. I don't think Kate is actually intended to be the head of Spyral (mostly because it literally makes zero sense).

I need the DCU to figure out whats its gonna do with the arrowverse
thats 6 series running simultaneously + smallville add them to the streaming app
I'll be watching.
I wonder if she's going to glide, think it's one of those gliding capes? She didn't glide in Elseworlds, but that basically just a cameo appearance.
Happy Mother's Day.

I'm not a big fan of the comic, but at first I was looking forward to the show coming on. However, am I the only one that thinks Ruby Rose is a terrible actress? Her brief appearance in the Arrowverse crossover didn't give me much hope for her carrying a show of her own. I haven't really seen her on other shows/movies (except John Wick) so I don't know if she's a capable actor in other projects. In John Wick she spoke mainly in sign language so I didn't get to see her acting chops that much. To me she comes across very wooden. I hope I'm wrong.

You're definitely not the only one who thinks that, but I'm confused why so many people think she's horrible. I've seen at least a bit of all her roles, and she's fine. The role of Ares is a particularly odd one to bring up, because to me that's actually a great example of her skill, since she had to rely solely on her expressions and body language; that's not easy.
I don't recall seeing her acting on anything else but John Wick, but her acting bugged me (not sure how to explain it). Based on that movie alone I wouldn't judge her though. However, her acting in Arrow was pretty bad. I don't see her carrying a show on her own, unless her acting improves quite a bit.
I never watched OITNB but it's something I've been meaning to watch eventually. Is she good in that?

Really? I thought she was good. Not even close to Oscar-caliber, but good.
I never watched OITNB but it's something I've been meaning to watch eventually. Is she good in that?
I've only seen a few of her scenes in that, but again, I thought she was good. There's more emotional range with her character in that than usual, and her portrayal wasn't overly dramatic from what I saw.

Yeah.. just found her to be "wooden" or "amateurish". Again, that's just my opinion, so what do I know. :)
I have been meaning to watch OITNB eventually. Perhaps I may grow to be a RR fan after seeing it. ;)

I like a lot of what's in here, but the way it's edited is so weird. It drops right into the main plot without setting up Kate, Sophie has no lines, the scene progression is ambiguous (that is, does Kate become Batwoman before or after Sophie gets taken?), etc. I'm also pretty disappointed that they apparently couldn't use West Point, instead substituting it for "Point Rock" as in the audition scenes, but it's still ambiguous as to whether they actually filmed there or not.
But the look and feels seems on track, accounting for all the adaptational changes.

I always did kind of wonder whether Renee brought Kate in if she was actually drinking and driving when they met. It would be pretty in-character for Renee to still arrest her after they had that "meet cute" moment ;).
(I've actually kind of been curious if Kate has a criminal record from her "messed up" period).

It's pretty cool to see Batwoman in this, especially since it's aimed for younger audiences :).
(I've actually kind of been curious if Kate has a criminal record from her "messed up" period).
I don't think she does. There's no indication of it, and she ended up having FBI education (likely as part of their New Agent Training Program) as part of her Batwoman training, so legally she's almost certainly clean. A DWI only counts as a traffic offense in new Jersey, but I don't think she'd even have one of those (I'm actually writing up a court transcript of that very trial, incidentally).

The only thing I don't like is how they changed Luke Fox. They have apparently transformed him into one of the nerdy computer guys, they seem to put in all of their DC shows :(
Ruby talks a little bit about the CRISIS and crossovers among the other ARROWVERSE shows.

Well... Luke is nerdy. That's not wrong. Besides, he holds Kate at Taser-point with a proper pistol grip, so he knows something about how to defend himself. Plus, Camrus Johnson had some boxing practice on Instagram during the filming, so Luke may still be an MMA fighter here.

I haven't watched Arrow, so I don't know this Curtis character. But Luke has barely any screen-time in the trailer, so although he may be the same archetype, I'd say once the series gets going proper he'll probably differentiate. Or I would hope so.
This kinda bratty version of Kate is going to take some getting used to though, at least for me. Can you apply a 'Remus Complex' to cousins?
Let's see: jealous/resentful of the older one's success, feeling of being in their shadow. As for striving to outdo, yet to be seen.
I am looking forward to the series though, and despite being somewhat cheesy, I did enjoy the trailer.

It’ll be interesting to see kate’s Character take shape, and who is responsible for molding her attitude. Because i’m Not even sure how close she was to Bruce, or if she comes to understand why he did what he did to become Batman. I don’t think I understand where this attitude of wanting to outdo him comes from, or why she should even care about helping Gotham.

Kate's story is profoundly different here. In the comics, she molded herself after Jacob after the kidnapping ordeal; here, he apparently sent her away for her own safety. The audition scenes indicate that Kate was way more rebellious as a cadet; in the comics, she was hesitant about even taking her new car out for a drive to celebrate the start of her last year, while TV!Kate apparently snuck an entire floor of cadets off post to go to a rave.
Everything indicates that TV!Kate is not going to start off rather mature and disciplined like her comic counterpart, and that includes not understanding why Bruce was Batman. But I think she'll develop out of that immaturity; Elseworlds already seems to show that.
I'm looking forward to this show.
Did The CW give a premier date? All I know is that Batwoman will air on Sundays.
Kate and Renee will appear in Black Mask: Year of the Villain #1:

I'm still worried someone will break them up.
TV generally has one hour a week and will likely go for more visual/dynamics. Whereas in comics the story develops differently and over a longer period of time perhaps. So yeah, this Kate is not exactly like Kate in her comic book.
I'm still looking forward to this very much.

And I think like in the case of Curtis, that this would be quite a down grade, from the comics version. (In case of Curtis it is even worse).
Btw. it looks like there allready plently of guys on Youtube complaining about the series beeing to "woke".

Yeah, Luke sure looked goofy and nerdy when he was holding Kate at Taser-point. :p

Guess they are aiming to contrast the main cast from each other as much as possible. Still, Cisco, Winn and Ray are all reasonably different, I don't notice too much unless they're all in the same room together, then it gets jarring. Well, hopefully they develop Luke to be more unique. All we've seen of him so far is the first trailer.

Meh. Out of interest I started reading some stuff about marketing and turns out there is a legitimate marketing strategy known as 'Troll Marketing'. Plus, ppl love an underdog, so apparently those in agreement can double-down in support. I checked a fairly prominent feminist blog site to see the comment section on the trailer, and this seems to be true, it was mostly praise after praise. And more than a few were gleeful that the "man babies" were triggered.
I'm far from an expert, but a quick bit of research suggests the 'backlash' was all highly intentional. As to whether it pays off remains to be seen. In either case, this has been highly educational.

Forgot to post here. I'm fine everything in the Batwoman trailer except the line "it will be when it fits a woman" and "I won't let a man take the credit for a woman's work" (and Luke Fox, and "Batman gave up on us")when she literally trespassed and stole her cousin's stuff.
I wish she just makes her own gears right off the bat (lol) coz at least then it makes sense for her to be annoyed. It also gives the wrong impression on her comic character.
It looks like she'll make it after she realized that people are just gonna credit Batman if she straight up just use Batman costume as is.
Her character is profoundly different right now, but that can change, and there are other changes that can account for it. It might just be that this Kate starts out as a huge *******.
Yeah but Batwoman's already fighting an uphill battle of being a woman and lesbian and derivation of DC cash cow. She doesn't need a bad first impression on top of it.
