Well... on the one hand, yay! But on the other hand, why? Maybe to coincide with the show?
DC Comics does seem to drop the ball with their characters. Cancelled the Supergirl comic book when it was known there would be a Supergirl TV show and then DC Comics
had to scramble to get a Supergirl comic book out. Now there is likely a Batwoman TV show coming but right now no Batwoman comic book.

The series doesn't even start filming until Monday. Makes more sense to release something near when it'll air.

I'm of the idea neither one should have been cancelled in the first place knowing they were both going to get a TV series. Just seems like poor marketing.

It does give somewhat of a mixed message about the companies confidence in the characters.
But, I suspect most of the audience who will watch the shows don't read the comics, and those that did prior to cancellations may be more likely to tune in to the shows if they remain hungry for that character. I for one am more interested in the upcoming show than I probably would have been otherwise, since I can't get any new official Batwoman stories elsewhere. And watching Supergirl and Flash hasn't inspired me to read any of their comics. :p

I never had any interest in Supergirl until the TV show and now I read the comic books. Though while I watch Flash and Arrow, I am not interested enough in them to read their comic books. So mixed reaction.

Essentially true, which is why (with Marvel at least) the comic versions tend to morph into/from the movie representation. Comics sell very little compared to all the profits of the movies; merchandise, etc.
But you can most likely bet, that the series and its possible 'taking off' promise, will generate either a new volume for Kate, or increased appearances. It would be nice if Kate (and presumably Bette and Jacob, others) may show up in other non-comic media presentations; the Young Justice cartoon or Titans, or ?
-
Supergirl is of course one of my dearest characters, having loved her from her '60s comic book incarnation, the Slater movie, etc. So watching her TV has given me more interest in her comic (I mostly left DC after the mid '80s Crisis, which gutted Supergirl and other beloved characters).
It took me a while to begin reading DC again, and I'm still not very deep in their universe these days. But stories with strong and/or sympathethic female characters will do it for me. Supergirl, Batwoman, Flamebird, etc.
-
I guess a TV show would more likely generate sales for TPB than for floppies.
And in case of Marvel TV shows and movies did rarely lead to significantly better comic sales.
-
Kate was in Doomsday Clock #9 today. [spoil]And apparently gets killed with the other adult batfamily members besides Bruce.[/spoil]

Batwoman: Haunted Tides

Description: “The complete Haunted Tide story from the New York Times best-selling Batwoman series by acclaimed comic talent J.H Williams III gets collected here for the first time! Batwoman is soon to be a show on the CW, this story is perfect place to start reading more about this strong, fascinating character.
Monsters from myth and legend are preying upon the children of Gotham. La Llorna, "The Weeping Woman", drowns her victims in sorrow... or worse. Batwoman is no stranger to sorrow herself. Estranged from her father, she blames him for the death of her sister - but she blames herself most of all.
Batwoman's mind, body and sould have been battered as never before, but she's emerged from her trials stronger than ever. On a collision course with the mother of monsters, no one - not the GCPD, not the shadowy Department of Extranormal Operation, and not the people who care about her the most - will stop her from seeking justice.
Collects Batwoman #0-11.”
Amazon release date is now October 15th.

I so loved this first volume.
-
They're making it sound like "Haunted Tide" was the name used for those two arcs collectively. Maybe, but I didn't hear it until this new edition.
-
It’s also not the complete story.

Is this one of the new "Essential Editions"?

Doesn’t appear to be. The listings for Essential Editions say it.

Says Greg Capullo is the illustrator. A mistake, or is that what makes this edition new? The previous edition was only in 2017.
Edit: And it's apparently less complete than the 2017 edition. Just get a new series going, DC, geez.

The only references to 52 are Kate's stabbing and Renee being the Question. Minor references.
I don't know where you heard that, since Elegy is widely considered the best entry point for Batwoman. It kinda has to be, since all her other stories since then tie back to it.

-
Elegy was my entry point. I had heard of Kate for a year or two, but had not checked it out. Basically I was not into DC for many years. My library had this deluxe or prestige edition, so I borrowed it, forever, well not really.
As fascinated as I was, when I saw Kate's cousin, Bette, previously as Flamebird (but a very silly version imo) I kinda knew this was the series for me.
And I was not disappointed, because Bette became a big part of Kate's storyline, with the Cutter story and then into the new 52. I only knew Bette/Flamebird from the very little I had looked in on DC over years since Crisis.
Don't get me wrong, Kate is an extremely awesome character and I really would have followed her on my own. Bette is icing on the cake for me.

Well, Kate was of course part of DC #1000 today, but her role and the story she was in were disappointingly crap. At least it was minor...
