Anyone know why the steep drop in Catwoman comic books sales. For December Catwoman #6 was in 28th place but for January Catwoman #7 is down to 52nd place. Why are people losing interest in the book?

Issue #6 was the end of an arc, wasn't it? People may not have wanted to continue buying it after that arc, or maybe they'll switch and trade-wait future arcs, or maybe they'll switch to digital vs. paper, or maybe comic book shops decided they don't want to or can't afford to order as many copies as they had been getting (especially if this series doesn't look like it will tie into King's Batman again any time soon).

A lot of people don't like that the story's not going anywhere.

I also think Jones no longer drawing the issues might be a big turn off too, especially since one of the major appeals from the beginning was that she was doing both. She might not be able to handle writing & drawing a monthly book consistently, or has another project planned (DC1000 and one of the Knightmares I believe are the only other ones we know about so far)

Don't forget the Swamp Thing stuff she's drawing for the Walmart book.
Whatever the case, it's clear that a combination of factors - writing, art shift, tie-ins (or lack thereof) is sadly losing readers.

Ah that's right, knew I was forgetting something. So that could easily be the case.
I know for me personally, I've got issues 2-6 saved on my pull list, but I still haven't decided if I want to commit to the whole series yet, just because I don't know how long it's planning to go till, especially if it is gonna be 13-24 issues of just spinning its wheels.
You can see Selina's civilian identity from the new DC Super Hero Girls series on the middle of the bottom row on the left side of this image:

People want Selina with Bruce, or close to Bruce and tying in with developments in his own title. This book isn't offering anything that we haven't seen already, I don't want to see Selina struggling with being a thief for the 1727745757543789323575th time, I want to see her struggle with new responsibilities as the bat-bride

Isn't Catwoman's identity being a thief? That sort of like saying people are tired of Batman fighting crime for the 1727745757543789323575th time. No one is dropping Batman because they aren't seeing him struggle with new responsibilities
as the cat-groom. And people seemed just fine with issues #1 thru #6.

Yeah, thats not true at all. If anything its proximity to King's run is whats actually hurting the book at this point. The writer is spinning her wheels waiting for King to stop wasting his time and actually do something.
Its an unreasonable expectation anyway.

Indeed, King should **** or get off the pot. I apologize for a being a bit vulgar but this is ridiculous.

Exactly, Joelle cant move forward in any direction with the character because Selina's direction has already been decided by King. Besides I'm not even sure what responsibilities being a Bat bride would entail. If she becomes an outright crime fighter and gives up being who she is then its no longer Catwoman we would be reading about.

Good. Characters evolve. Film at Eleven.
Isn't Catwoman's identity being a thief?
Yes, and it's been played out. Give it a break for a couple of years, or factor it into her long overdue redemption storyline trying to reconcile that with different ideas, different responsibilities. You don't have to get rid of it completly, just try to strike a good chord with fresh developments.
That sort of like saying people are tired of Batman fighting crime for the 1727745757543789323575th time
That's because that works for the character. Selina being a thief or on the wrong side of the law is so one-note now. It's stale, it's predictable. It holds her back.
Yeah, thats not true at all.
An opinion isn't true?
No one is dropping Batman because they aren't seeing him struggle with new responsibilities as the cat-groom.
But they would be interested, as the backlash to Batman#50 showed.
And Batman sells because it's Batman. Any direction you give him still means money.

That's like retiring Batman and calling it evolution, maybe Darkseid should apply for sainthood as well while we're at it. Catwoman will never stop being a thief, sure she could fluctuate between femme fatale, pure villain, lover, criminal with a heart of gold etc but being a thief will always remain intact.
Catwoman's also been redeemed for years, so I'm not sure what redemption arc you're asking for. Seems like you want Selina to just stop being Catwoman altogether and if that happen she wouldn't exactly have a book would she?
The backlash was down to the spoilers and because King had dragged his feet over the whole affair much like he's doing now. Joelle's book cant have Selina go back to Gotham and interact with Bat villains and supporting characters because King is the one whose going to bring her back. Joelle cant have her romance Batman either because once again thats King's story, she cant have her romance anyone else nor can she do something anything noteworthy because all of it would interfere with King's plans. It all circles back to King.

Yeah, I think that's the ultimate problem. We all know where the story is going to end up, and its not gonna be in the Catwoman book, so it's not allowed to advance the story or even advance the character in any real significant direction. We do get some interesting moments and looks into her past, like the stuff with her sister, but things like the new location and new supporting cast, all just feel like filler, nothing really special about them.
There's also the question of, will the book continue when she eventually moves back to Gotham, or will it end once King takes her back, making it feel even more "filler-y"? One of the upcoming issues supposedly has her interacting with the Penguin post-what happened in Batman currently, so presumably things are started to come back together soon-ish.

The Penguin arc is in play right now, he manipulates her into stealing an item for him (using Holly as the reason) and she winds up being apprehended

I hope King doesn't eventually try the wedding trick again as even if he pulls the trigger no one will care now. King has squandered any goodwill he had from the fans in relation to BatCat due to DC's deceptive marketing of that issue.

That's probably why he wrote that "happy ending" for the pair back in 2017. He's not going to have the chance to make that canon in the mainline stuff, so he has to settle for a distant flash forward that'll likely just get contradicted by whoever takes over from him. Kind of like how Snyder has his own idea of how his Batman story should end which is also getting published.

King lied though. He basically said it had gotten cliche that Batman always ends up sad so he was going to shake things up by making Batman happy because no one had ever done that before
so it would be something interesting to explore. And then he makes Batman sad, just like in every other Batman story.

Selina's really getting her "Film Noir Femme Fatale" on there.
Also, I like the art, but Fornes doesn't draw her prototype Catwoman costume as well as Weeks did.
Seems we're getting somewhere with this Knightmares arc...[spoil]Question's gotten dreamscape Selina to admit she lied in her note, makes you think Bruce is now considering her to be a wilful part of the conspiracy to weaken him, which might just be what Bane wants him to think[/spoil]

Interesting - I don't think that's the direction it's going to go. I think it's likely more along the lines of her being afraid. Otherwise we're probably getting Hush 2.0, which would make me very sad.

That too...I was just arguing it may be what Bruce is possibly considering that due to his current state, her fans like you and I will have a different perspective, and it is likely a commitment issue.
I'm saddened at the apparent drop in Catwoman's sales. I have to admit, though, I'm not surprised. The story is unfortnately not the most interesting one. I love Joelle Jones's new costume design and artwork. I also like Blanco's and Cassagrande's artwork. But Joelle's writing (forgive me) leaves a lot to be desired. I think Joelle should stick with the artwork and have a more innovative writer come in.
This book needs more information in each issue. More depth, schematics, and surprising plot twists. We should have already learned more about Selina's housemates and have had more developments with Maggie. Raina Creel, as the series' "Lex Luthor" (quoting Joelle), is not that big of a threat to The Catwoman. Selina has gotten one or two over Lex Luthor himself, and has overcome much bigger challenges than anything Raina can throw at her. But in this series, the great Catwoman has been struggling to deal with Raina, and her strengths have not been displayed very well. She has been taking a lot of hits from a lot of novices. She was even knocked out of a window by an elderly woman hopped up on drugs. I realize Selina hasn't slept in weeks over leaving Bruce. But come on, Bruce has been violently beating up arch-villans, while Selina is getting kicked around by geriatrics.
I hope it's not too late to give this series the boost it needs to be successful. I hope things speed up and turn for the better. This story doesn't have to move slowly just because 'Batman' is. 'Catwoman' can move at its own pace and have major developments just as 'Robin', 'Batwoman', and 'Nightwing' have for years - no matter what happens in other Batman titles.
Here's hoping 'Catwoman' will pick up, improve, and be successful.
They've had some beautiful variants from Stanley Lau on this run so far

Really enjoyed today’s Catwoman . Just a fun old-fashioned caper issue. Really liked John Timms’ art.
Kind of agree that I’d prefer Jones art with King’s writing when Selina returns to Batman proper. It’d be fun just to have a caper series for her like today’s issue as well. This seemed like a great creative team for such a book.
