Oh no, please not another prequel. (in case of Black Widow)
Is Spider-Man far from home happenig before Avengers Endgame, too?
All in all, i am so happy to be part of the MCU from the very beginning, they did absolutely no wrong with a few exceptions.
What Marvel did with this movie series is an accomplishment no one can copy in that quality, in the next decades.
And i can tell you all about it, i watched the Spider-Man tv series, the crappy Dr. Strange movie (before the MCU), Dolph Lundgren Punisher, Captain America even before the 1990 movie and so on...

I've watched those more times than I've bothered rewatching an MCU movie. Sometimes even unironically.

Seeing it for the second time was still a magical joyride. It just really reiterated how awesome it was to have all of these actors, even if screentime was limited, to produce something that I'm not sure will ever be matched in scale. What I saw on screen just did not seem possible with the logistics of reality.
Also, Alan Silvestri killed it with the score. I think it's his best work in the MCU. I loved hearing music cues for certain characters at certain special moments. Mixing misic from Captain Marvel for example, which wasn't even his score. Soooooo dope.
-
I give it 7 out of 10.
Great on spectacle and it has some genuinely great moments, but the last completely undoes the whole internal logic of the story. How can you [spoil] kill the Thanos from 2014 [/spoil] and still have all the events in Infinity Wars play out. It makes no sense.
Had they simply [spoil] sent Thanos and all his minions back in time and used the Mind Stone to erase their memories [/spoil], that would have worked.
And while I enjoyed Captain Marvel in her own movie, she DID seem way OP in this one. It's not quite as bad as what we had with Superman in Justice League, but close.
Well,
Judging by the spoilers, I think there are no divergent realities. Just one fixed space-time continuum. They do not alter the past, they have always been part of it. It's not "Back to the Future 2".
Except they DO alter the past, which they said they couldn't do. If you can [spoil] kill Thanos before the events in Guardians of the Galaxy, why can't you bring Natasha and Gamora back to life.[/spoil]
Makes no sense.
Pity they didn't kill off Thor instead of Tony, he's become a parody of himself.
Also....so they kill off Black Widow. The only female Avenger (apart from Wanda, who was only an Avenger since CW). Nice.
You think the "only female Avenger" means something anymore with Captain Marvel, Okoye, Shuri, Valkyrie, Wasp, Mantis, Gamora and the mention Scarlet Witch around and plenty more on the way.

No, it seems to me like it's just poor plotting.

I don't know, [spoil]they (especially Tony) were very specific when Bruce was getting ready to do the snap, to make sure what had happened had still happened but those who had been taken would come back to the 'now', and they were trying to avoid those kinds of paradoxes (and that one would have been (is) a biggie).[/spoil]
No, it seems to me like it's just poor plotting.
But they were doing so well otherwise ;)

Just got back from it. Wow. Easily the best MCU movie to date. I will say that Infinity War, Avengers 1, and Civil War had better action, but the character work in Endgame was leagues above anything else Marvel has done since 2008.
Only full-on complaint is Captain Marvel. All she did was talk about how awesome she is which got old the first time she did it, so I was rather pleased that she disappeared early on and was absent for most of the movie. Also not 100% sure how I feel on what they did with Hawkeye. But other than that this was an amazing movie, pretty much the movie I've been wanting Marvel to make since 2008.

Plus, the potential mess with time and space opens opportunities fom multiverses or potential time-travelling villains(i'm looking at you, Kang and Immortus)

it was a fitting ending in some manner as they closed the story arcs of Tony and Steve. Wonder if shield will continue to support the concept of avengers or its the last avengers movie. if this was the last appearance of the avengers then it would be ironic that the phrase of avengers assemble was employed in a movie which was apparently their last hurrah. :p Wonder how nebula survives after killing her past self. It seemed fitting that Tony who initiated this verse was the one who ended this phase of the MCU. The last climatic battle was pretty epic though it did remind me of the last stand and X2 in some spots . :p the fight between the two Captain Americas was also hilarious. Wonder which heroes are debuting in the second phase to replace the fallen ones. Could be Nova darkhawk new warriors and the Street Leveler's.

That team on it's own is essentially unbeatable. Especially with Captain Marvel.

So the husband Peggy mentioned in Winter Soldier as being saved by Cap was Cap himself?

Nebula killing her past self, doesn't influence her existance in our timeline, but the absence of her and Thanos army would certainly create another timeline.

Someone mentioned on their review for the movie about the new Wanda show called WandaVision, maybe Wanda starts to go nutty and creates/restores a new version of "Vision". Maybe her powers manifest in a certain way. Disney has the Fox/XMEN license now...so they can do whatever.
-
-Iron Man's death was handled extremely well, Black Widow's was not.
-Captain Marvel is barely in the film, disappointing.
-Was decidedly not a fan of the "running joke" with Thor. I expected better than that from Marvel.
-Don't know how I feel about the end with Cap.
-The time travel stuff is, whatever.
-Etc.
Overall, I give it a B right now. We'll see if that changes with repeat viewings.

I went to see this last night at the first UK screening. I was so hyped, it was untrue! By the time I left the cinema at 3am, I felt that Infinity War was a better overall film. And I had questions...
1. 2014's Gamora. Is she still present in 2023? Is that who Quill was searching for on board the Benatar, or was he trying to find "his" Gamora?
2. As others have asked, did all of Parker's school die in the Snap? That's potentially quite a large hole to fill somehow!
3. How did Barton get the Soul Stone? He had to lose the thing he loved the most, but that should've been his family rather than Natasha, surely? And he'd already lost them. So did he have to sacrifice the thing he loved the most at that moment?
4. I get how Steve was worthy to lift Mjolnir, but how did he get it to produce lightning? I thought Thor channelled his lightning through the hammer, not vice versa?
Karen Gillan made this movie for me and it was great to see Nebula play such a large role in a movie that isn't really about her.
Fat Thor... if this is Hemsworth's last outing in the MCU, it's quite a sad end in my opinion. I hope he either plays a part in GOTG3 or gets another standalone movie.
It was nice to see Pepper as Rescue, especially as Paltrow says she's done with the MCU now. And I couldn't believe they got Natalie Portman back to film some scenes!!
I enjoyed it, but I think I enjoyed Infinity War more. I'll go and see it again and see what I make of it a second time around.
I think it's safe to say that this current iteration of the MCU is "finite", outside of the villains being used.

Ultimately, though, my biggest issue is that I just feel like a leper or some carnival attraction for clearing having a strong dislike (date I say, hatred) of the MCU due to not liking the films after watching some of them since the way the movies flow and are designed don't behave with my general movie preferences.

Peter's school were all dusted and restored by the second snap, and they're all the same age. Peter reunites with Ned when he goes back to class.
-
Captain Marvel in the film is essentially muscle. She wouldn't bet that useful in the time heist deal. Or rather, not required. I was okay with her limited scenes. With how powerful she is, I'm curious moving forward what would even pose a challenge to her.
-

I've always felt that the MCU was overrated. Iron Man was great for 2 thirds and then botched the third act, none of the Thor movies hit the mark, and even the best of the others were mostly good popcorn flicks and nothing more. Endgame is the first movie in the series to feel like more than just a vehicle for explosions and funny one-liners.
-
Really?? I cant watch any of that old stuff anymore...except Batman 66 because i see it as a kids movie/series...
I watch some of them because they're awful and I get more entertainment out of them (the old Captain America gets better if you watch the Nostalgia Critic's review of it), but some of the older stuff are just generally better executed. Bill Bixby's Hulk in particular remains the definitive take on the character for me...and the 90s TV Movies with Thor and Daredevil are solid amounts of cheese.
-
Another thing... I was kind of hoping we'd get the classic Thanos petrification thing, but instead he just got dusted. That was a bit of a letdown, but still a minor one. I give Endgame a solid 9.8 of 10. I don't think there's ever been a better superhero movie and... sadly... I don't think there ever will be in my lifetime. I've never watched a movie that's had this varied an emotional response. There's never been a movie that's made me laugh so hard and cry so hard for as many reasons, almost at the same time.

That was my thought as well. The way they showed her in this movie, she’s more powerful than every other Avenger combined.
Makes you wonder what the hell she was supposed to have been doing while Thanos was rampaging across star systems?

Regarding the lightning, the deal is whosoever blah blah blah shall possess the POWER of Thor.
Which essentially got nerfed quite a bit in this outing. I mean in Infinity War he takes down Thanos while the Titsn has the full power of the Gauntlet, but here he can’t even handle a weaker 2014 Thanos.
I wonder how many female audience members are going to feel ripped off with fat Thor. LOL.

Bless that Super-Soldier Formula Steve looked Fantastic for about 122 or so, just going by years lived not frozen since his internal clock probably stopped then.
He was born in 1918 got frozen in 1945: So 26 or 27 depending on the month frozen.
Woke up in 2011 and lived in the "Present" till 2023 so add 12 years.
Then reunited with Peggy about 1950 or so, so another 73 years till he saw Bucky and Sam at the end of Endgame.

With all due respect, none of those female characters were Avengers.
Hopefully Wasp will be, but I don't know about the others. Unfortunately I can't stand Tessa Thompson since reading an interview with her.

If Nebula killed her younger self then she shouldn't still be alive.
Also, if the soul stone death is permanent then how come the younger version of Gamora is back. Also, if Gamora was brought back then surely Black Widow could be too. It sucks that the Black Widow movie is just gonna be a prequel now that she is dead.
How can Thanos die twice in the same film? It just doesn't make sense.
Also, where was the older Cap all this time?
Peggy was left waiting for the dance but now the dance happened anyway...
What I really liked about the movie is that it dead feel like a comic book story and a lot of the scenes reminded me of comic book panels.
Hippy Thor was funny.
I liked that a lot of the characters got to have important with the people who have died so they got some closure around their loss, like when Thor spoke to his Mum, or Tony speaking to his Dad.
I loved the final battle when all the heros were there. It was cool seeing everybody altogether and I love that Pepper was a hero in the film at the end, that was awesome.
I'm curious about what happened to the past version of Loki though that disappeared with the infinity stone.
I liked New Asgard and it is cool that Valkyrie is now in charge of it.
It was awesome Korg was back too.
What has happened to Sif though? I don't remember seeing her in the final battle, although there were lots of heros so I may have missed here.
I definitely want to see the movie again but all of this has been on my mind haha

It was established early on that changing the past doesn’t change the present. They even discussed how killing baby Thanos would create an alternate timeline, but wouldn’t fix this timeline.
So when you brought past Gamora and past Nebula into the present, you created an alternate timeline that lacked those characters, but the current Nebula wasn’t affected because it was no longer ‘her’ as she was from this timeline. This was reinforced when Gamora met Quill because she wasn’t thevGamora
Because just like Gamora and Nebula, bringing Thanos from the past created a different timeline that lacked a Thanos and gave our timeline 2.

And that’s where they blew it. They wanted to get cute but broke the rules.
If Cap had returned through the portal and had lived out his life in another timeline, everything is fine.
But Cap being able to go back into this timeline’s past, and make changes that affect the present, such as dancing with Peggy or heck even existing is wrong.
He's dead, so... pretty much. Plus, virtually everything he accomplished is undone so he has to rank as forgettable long-term.
Thanos was still behind various events in the MCU one way or another. There are still thousands or even millions of people that died. Black Widow, Vision, Quicksilver, Iron Man ect. The invasion of New York still happened which played a part in what happened with the Netflix Defenders characters.
I wouldn't say Thanos accomplished nothing. The snap was undone and he was killed but that was always going to happen. Undoing the snap didn't come without a cost.
Thanos was always going to be killed. Thanos was not portrayed as being the kind of character that would just quit trying to wipe out sentient life in the universe as he believed it was his destiny and his life's work.
Yes Thanos got killed early but that was because he was in a extremely weakened state from destroying the stones and he was ambushed by the avengers. It took a army of Avengers to battle Thanos at the end and even then they only just beat him. The big three at near peak powers got beat down and he sent Captain Marvel into orbit with the power stone.
