Yeah, we do! I don’t care about the others!
Excalibur was not only about magic but also about having stories outside of the US or in space. I would have kept some original team members and honestly it's hard to think of an Excalibur without Captain Britain.
Overall the team is great but seriously Apocalypse? Did all the mutant villains become anti-heroes or heroes?
Disappointed. This title has always been where one could find obscure quirky yet refined X characters of diverse international noble nature. This cast is a bunch of American gum chewers and Apocalypse.
Is "I am still too confused and bewildered by all of this to form an opinion" an option?
I really know very little about Tini Howard, but I KNOW I love Marcus To's pencils. I like everyone in the roster, but have no idea how it will all play out on paper.
As far as Excalibur being something new, that's fine. Meggan and Brian were really the glue defining the original cast, and everyone else were X-Men anyhow. Apocalypse is weird, yeah, but I'm excited to see how the rest of them interact with him.
I think it's fair to say this is the book I'm most looking forward to.

Rictor is Mexican and Betsy is English.
No word on the gum though.
I only know Trini Howard from some Hack/Slash issues she did, which were pretty good.
For the team, no complaints. I'd rather Betsy just be called Psylocke, but otherwise this is very interesting.
I love Gambit, Rogue and Jubile. And i'm casual fan of Betsy, it doesn't settle well with me that she can't be Psylocke, but i will give it a shot.
Love Betsy being the new Captain Britain. After all she was Captain Britain BEFORE she was Psylocke so...
The lineup is amazing. I’m particularly excited to see Psylocke in a book with Rogue and Gambit. I thought it would be at least another decade before that happened again. Hopefully that won’t be wasted like it was in Astonishing.
Love the cast, like the concept. Except, of course, for Apocalypse. He's one of those characters that I think should never be on an X-team. Pretty much all of the villains they have on the new books are a miss for me. As others have pointed out, it would make more sense for there to be at least one character with a background in magic on the book, like Pixie or Amanda Sefton, or Selene or Maddie if they're looking for villains. I love Rictor and I'm happy to see him getting used, but he doesn't really have any connection to anyone in this book. Wish Star was here also. Enthusiastic yes to more Marcus To.
I just remembered Shogo, I wonder if Jubilee will be bringing him along. And speaking of Jubilee, I don't like the proportions of that new costume, the pink bit should end at the first "v" shape instead of extending as far as it does.
A bit disappointed tbh
Excalibur is a book very close to my heart, and I'm not really sure what this cast have to do with anything. I'd have liked to have seen a British/European character (I know Chamber is taken, but Banshee/Siryn/Rahne would have been fine) beyond the questionable status of Psylocke.
Even one of the originals would have been nice.
I'll still buy it. Was hoping for James Roberts and Alan Davis though! :D
They should’ve used Chechetto/Weaver’s updated ‘90s look which looked awesome.
The one from Carey's Legacy? Yeah that looked good too.

Rictor: How many of his stories take place in Mexico? Or how often is his Mexican culture portrayed?
Betsy: How many of her stories take place in the UK/Otherworld? Or how often is her British culture portrayed?
Just because they were born there does not make them from there. The Marvel UK characters had a distinct flavour from Marvel US characters, Betsy hasn't been written like a Brit since she joined the X-Men in the 1980s.

We don't talk about (wasted pontentail) Astonishing.
Yeah. Excited for them to be reunited and I hope that this book will make justice to all characters.

I hope not. Noone needs babies on a missions.
If it were up to me, Rictor would be half-Greek.

...and there it is! Everything you wanted to know about writing a British character, but were afraid to ask. Now turn to page 108 we'll be learning about British-isms, how to turn any character British. :D
1.What do you think about the line up do you like it? Do you hate it?
LOVE the lineup. It’s the best Blue team members back together again so that’s a massive plus. Betsy, Gambit, Rogue & Jubilee all have pretty solid relationships between each other and it’ll be fun to throw Rictor into the mix to see how he relates to each of them (correct me if I’m wrong, but he doesn’t have any real relationship with any of them right?). Some of the other announced rosters have too many straight men (not in the literal sense ;)) so having characters like Jubilee, Gambit & Rogue play off of Betsy’s more straight forward personality keeps the book entertaining and hopefully not so goddamn series and moody like other rosters have fallen into. It doesn’t force one member of the team to be the “wacky” one.
2.What do you think so far about the concept for EXCALIBUR?
It’s different. The “mutant magic” concept I’m going to have to see what they mean by it.
3. What do you know about creative team?
Nothing about the writer Tini Howard but Marcus To’s NextGen was beautiful so at least the art will be there
4. Apoc...Nah who cares .What do think about Captain Britain change and lack of classic excalibur characters? Do you think X-men Gold ruined its chances of a reunion. Do think Excalibur better off trying to be something new?
Eh, I don’t care. Never read the original Excalibur and I’m luke warm to Nightcrawler & Kitty so no big loss to me.
I like the little we've seen of the concept (magic + Betsy in a lead role + Otherworld), but honestly the cast doesn't scream Excalibur to me. Betsy is actually the only choice I'm completely sold on.
Rogue, Gambit and Jubes would make more sense to me among the new Marauders,
I hope Brian and Meggan appear in some capacity. Missed opportunity to include characters like Faiza and Banshee too.

They've shown her drinking tea as a form of British Orientalism.
Lord have mercy. Why is there a thread for each title instead of a general "What do you think of the Dawn of X line-ups?" thread?
Lord have mercy. Why is there a thread for each title instead of a general "What do you think of the Dawn of X line-ups?" thread?
Because there was 3 or 4 threads at the time that could be used at and I thought it be nice to have a place where you could talk about the individual book.
It is easier to go through five 6 or 7 page threads than one 42 page thread. Especially If you are only trying to talk about one individual book. Besides these threads are supposed to be disposable and fall initial hype is over.I could have tried to make real thread for each but I thought it was bit early for that.
The lineup isn't trash but I just don't care for it. British Psylocke and Rogue are pluses but I just don't like Jubilee and don't care for Gambit and Apoc. I have no opinion on the other dude because I don't know who that is.
The concept is cool. I only read the first couple issues of the old run and it was always weird and dealt with non-mutant stuff
Marcus To art is good. I don't know anything about the writer.
I like that Betsy stepped up and claimed it but I do want to know what happened to Brian since I liked him. She looks good in the role. No opinion on old members.

Agree. There's like 50 conversations going on in those 30+ page threads so its nice to just go to one place and talk about the one individual thing you're interested in.

EXCALIBUR #1

A NEW DAY IS FORGED!
Mutantkind has always been special…as has their relationship with the world—or WORLDS—around them. As this new era dawns, a new connection forms between mutants and the magic of the world… and that of Otherworld! Can the new Captain Britain forge a new way through the chaos with her companions Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, Rictor…and Apocalypse?!
1.What do you think about the line up do you like it? Do you hate it?
I actually love this line up. Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, and Psylocke all play well off each other. Rictor is a bit out, but I don't see that as anything different from when Monet was introduced into X-Factor or Magneto's X-Men.
Apocalypse - Okay, yeah. I got no idea what they're planning to do with him. I suspect it has something to do with that pic of him and Moira.
My initial reaction is that while I like the line up, I wasn't sure about the setup. We have the title Excalibur with Betsy taking the mantle of Captain Britain. That's great... and then she's the only European on the team. I admit that I'm pretty intrigued.
And frankly, anything that gets Jubilee out of stories where she seems like "Junior X-Man" is a plus to me. Wonder if she's going to get Shogo back from Karma. He could hang around Brian's kid.
I'm actually PRETTY CERTAIN Brian and Meggan will be around in some capacity. Brian has to keep the beard. It suits him.
2.What do you think so far about the concept for EXCALIBUR?
Mutant magic? Well... We'll see what they do. I like the new role for Betsy. I think they really had to do something to get her away from "Body Stealing Ninja Babe."
I don't much like Kwannon getting the Psylocke name. She's for the most part a blank slate. They should have given her another name or gone with Revanche. That's a problem for the other book, though.
3. What do you know about creative team?
The writer? Not too much. I looked up the artist online. I feel pretty good about the art. No way this would fly with bad art.
4. Apoc...Nah who cares .What do think about Captain Britain change and lack of classic excalibur characters? Do you think X-men Gold ruined its chances of a reunion. Do think Excalibur better off trying to be something new?
I like the Captain Britain change, particularly if they actually do something good with it... and again, I'd be very surprised if Brian and Meggan weren't on the periphery. Brian's brains - and even Maggie - fill a sorely needed gap, even if he never steps in the field.
Kurt, Rachel, and Kitty being out? Kurt - I think - is a necessary evil at this point, given what happened in AOX. Kitty would just take over the entire book. I could see an argument made for Rachel being in it, though I kind of feel it would be better with Phoenix being apart of her. (I doubt Phoenix is coming anywhere near this.)
I would love to have Jubilee do a throwaway line about loving that overgrown flambeed celestial bat... something to acknowledge Phoenix undoing the vampire curse.
Anyways give your general thoughts on the book.
This is the book I'm most excited with. The only thing I can imagine killing it for me is if they revisit the Slaymaster storyline.
Only nostalgia I'd love to see is Jubilee and Betsy maybe encountering the Mandarin again.
What happened to Elizabeth and Blob? Over just like that, huh?
1. I like the line up. Except for Apocalypse being on the team.
2. I like it.
3. Nothing
4. I don't like the Captain Britain name change. It was unnecessary. She already had a good name. I want some Excalibur members on the team. Captain Britain and Meggan.
What happened to Elizabeth and Blob? Over just like that, huh?
Looks that way and I couldn't be happier about it ending...
I wonder if this means Betsy is also now leader of the Captain Britain corps?
Okay, let me first get out of the way that this has nothing to do with Excalibur. So, I do not understand the title of the book.
The same issue arises with the Fallen Angels and Marauders titles. I think they should have used a different title for all 3.
I dunno know how I feel that Betsy is loosing the Psylocke codename as well.
The team itself, I love Betsy teaming up with Mr. & Mrs. X and I am glad the X-office is not putting these two on separate teams. Also great to have Rictor in a regular title. Jubilee, hmmm I don't know, but I think it is going to be fine.
I really do not like if Apocalypse becomes part of an X-team. Why have all villains become X-Men at one point? I see that the X-Men title also listed Vulcan as member. This is stupid. We need our villains be villains!

Maybe after HOX POX there will be new non mutant villains so Apoc and other villains joined good side.

Since at least a couple of those "Villains..." have been headmaster of some versions of the "...School For Gifted Youngsters" at some point, I'm not seeing much of an issue. A minor one? Sure. That said, the "X" villains being in some sort of a concrete "Antagonistic..." role hasn't really been a thing for a long time.
The line-up is fine, but I don't like that their idea of sorting out the Psylocke name-controversy is for Betsy to permanently take Brian's mantle - especially not if this will influence the films. I don't want to see a Jasper's Warp on the screens with Betsy as CB.
I only know Marcus To from Next Gen. He better not draw Rictor skinny; I'm getting sick of that.
The line-up is interesting tho (3 90's X-Men? WOW)
1. What do you think about the line-up do you like it? Do you hate it?
I'm torn. On one hand, this brings together three of my all-time top ten mutants, being Rogue, Gambit & Psylocke (now Captain Britain), along with the much beloved Jubilee, the criminally underrated Rictor + the classic antagonist Apocalypse. Now, I should be overjoyed about as a whole, but it honestly doesn't fit the mold of what I identify Excalibur as. This is one of those titles I've been wanting to resurface for a long while now, but I must admit this isn't at all what I expected it to look like.
If I were able to reshuffle the rosters for Dawn of X, I imagine my Excalibur would probably drop Rogue, Gambit and Jubilee into other titles, and trade them out for Dazzler, Archangel & Pixie. I think Ali & Betsy would have a very fruitful friendship, Warren and Betsy have so much history and his animosity towards Poccy would be enjoyable, and Megan’s range of abilities and Welsh origin make her a perfect fit for the crew.
Speaking to the roster that has been assembled, I love the very natural pairings of characters we’ve got here. Obviously, we’ve the married couple, and the Blue reunion in having Betsy, Rogue, Remy and Jubes together, but there’s also the somewhat like-minded Julio + Jubes, who recently shared a book with Betsy in X-Tremists, who I think will get along famously. Throw Apocalypse into the mix, who I’m sure will have an interesting dynamic with everybody else on the team, and we have the makings of some very scintillating character interactions.
I’ll add that the possibility of getting Brian, Meggan, Maggie, Shogo & Shatterstar in guest roles has me very excited.
2. What do you think so far about the concept for EXCALIBUR?
I love the concept in terms of Betsy returning to her roots and forging a new path for herself, and I couldn’t be more excited for exploration of Otherworld and the many mystical elements that’ll come into play. One might assume Krakoa seeds will be spread here too, and I can only imagine what the growth of Krakoa in a landscape forged from magic might do to its mutant flora.
3. What do you know about creative team?
I’m still relatively unfamiliar with Tini Howard, but her Twitter indicates good taste and I’m optimistic. As for Marcus To, one only has to look at one of his books to see how brilliant he is in artfully capturing the character/s. His Betsy in NextGen was beautiful, and while I don’t believe I’ve seen him draw the others I can’t wait to see his interpretation.
4. Apoc...Nah who cares .What do think about Captain Britain change and lack of classic Excalibur characters? Do you think X-men Gold ruined its chances of a reunion? Do think Excalibur better off trying to be something new?
I don't mind the absence of classic Excalibur characters, as I think rehashing OG teams for nostalgia can only get you so far in terms of an innovative and engaging narrative. We're shooting for a new era for the X-Men, not revisiting what we've seen before. I also think that in terms of Kitty, Rachel & Kurt, they may very well have outgrown the premise, and are very different characters now than they were then. I welcome something new, and I appreciate this is a fresh take on an old concept. That said, I can't help but find it difficult to accept what I've always thought should be a British/European oriented title have only one character from that corner of the world. As I will make clear as I make my way around the forums replying to the dozen Dawn of X threads, I think all of these characters have a place among the X-Line, I'm just not sure this is the placement I would have chosen.
Would be perfect with Pixie!
Agreed! The New X-Men generation is kinda the only one not represented in Dawn of X, and there are a great many reasons as to why Pixie would be a perfect fit for the team.
Rogue being back to her exact 90's costume is a no for me. At least give her modernized look.
I do love the 90s look, but one can’t say it isn’t outdated (though not nearly as badly as Jeans Marvel Girl look).
I still miss her Age of X 'Reaper' design. Ill-fitted perhaps while she's the brawlin' powerhouse type, but it's such a great look that'd I'd love to see it return. K.Thompson had it cameo in R&G, but I'm dyin' for more
