"Trollish meta-commentary" or subtext?
I'd rather Hickman have the guts to play it dead straight--honest and sentimental.
I'm sick of trollish meta-commentary.
Why can’t it be both? He’s not making these choices in a vacuum.
"Trollish meta-commentary" or subtext?
At this point its barely subtextual. Theres a clear intent on the writer part to write that storyline and theres clearly identifiable indications in the books that it is happening. Its canon.
I just wish we got to know more about what people actually do on Krakoa. From what we've seen in all the other books, it just seems like everyone is just hanging out or at bonfire parties.
Where is the school system? What are people, outside of the big name mutants, doing for jobs?
maybe we'll get some answers to this in time, but farting around having old lady fights and having extremely terrible security is not where it's at.
Also, Moira must be losing her s-word with how things are going since HOX/POX :p
On another note, the ladies of Hordeculture are totally evil versions of The Golden Girls.
except one looked more like Rose from 227.
Garbage
The editors should be embarrassed for letting this issue go to print.

But he cant play it straight. And he isnt interested on developing character
This issue was very light of any hints.

Are you serious?
It's kinda Reverse Hellfire Brats. Mcguffin grannies instead of mcguffin nippers now.
Are you serious?
Honestly.
Scott is still a boy scout and takes the 'no kill' rule seriously.
Emma's still a bitch
Sebastian is a scam artist rather than a fighter
Whoredeculture is planning to screw over everyone living on the planet cuz they believe the plants are the oppressed species on the planet.
No character development.

Wait sorry, I thought he was talking about hints on the open relationship thing. And there were plenty of those.
Edit: he's not interested in chracter development and we know it. That's for the rest of the DoX line. Now he's doing world building and setting future plots.
Scott spending time with his family was a character moment. His discussion with Polaris was a character moment. Intiming Magneto to focus on rescuing children instead of chasing Serafina was a character moment. Worrying about having hurt an old lady even if shes an enemy was a character moment. That notion that these past issues have just been plot plot plot is false.

I think the latter is the focus of X-Men atm but no, I don’t think it’s devoid of character or that Hickman isn’t writing any.

Lots of people are saying this. great comedic relief, bad villains

Some good character work could had been done.
I reread this issue and it was actually very well written and funny:
-elderly women fighting for a cause they believe in
-elderly women defeating top tier xmen
-shaw confirmed bi
-emma confirmed to have awful p-word odor
women empowerment, new threats to xmen, revamped golden girls!!! what's not to like?
