Is this a new potential story?
its a variant cover.
Well she gave the sword back and like I've been saying, unless Hickman wants to use it to drive conflict between Wakanda and Krakoa it probably won't matter in the future. I expect the Spear of Bashenga and Bast to be reintegrated into Wakanda's origins and Skybreaker will be soft retconned out of the mythos as just one of many important blades. So I'm just happy that plot is done. A lot has been set up for Storm these last few issues.
For example, the new political dynamic between the Quiet Council and the heroes of Krakoa means that there may come a time Ororo has to put her own morality or friends above politics, putting her seat in jeopardy. There's also the potential for Death to seek revenge after his defeat, the upcoming Shi'ar storyline and more. Taking off my BP fan cap for sec and speaking as a Storm fan, there's more stuff to be excited about than her relationship with Wakanda and how it unfolded. And speaking as BP fan I'm just happy he can get a new, loyal love interest so I'm satisfied on all fronts.
it wasnt neatly wrapped up there is still division as detailed in one of the informational pages. now that all has been revealed she didn't need that sword and it is now more glaringly obvious it was created solely to interject a wedge between her and tchalla.
she did have some great moments today as others have mentioned so let's see where looking to the stars takes her.

Trust me BK, you know i knew what the deal was. I haven't read that excaliber book yet but in terms of that sword i mentioned it earlier and even called it before that issue got released. Some cats in here give that particular story a pass cause of they're own bias but that was some half ass story telling, Storm didn't need that sword and they literally created that lame ass plot device for drama like nah son that doesn't fly with me. Like, wtf was the point of that entire arc. I don't give a damn if people don't like they're relationship that's irrelevant to me because comic book relationships never work out in the long run due to status quo but what i don't F with is unnecessary squabs for the sake of "Plot" but like you said let's see where "looking to the stars" takes our girl. Nice cover. And a nice pairing of the witches of Marvel. Just add in Magik and we have my ideal coven.
Yes Storm! YASSSSS! Excalibur was HER issue.
Damn you jwatson!!! You beat me to it LOL.
Storm did a fantastic Job in XoS Excalibur I’m not sure what the hell is going on, but the these X-Writers are putting some respect on her name. I’m shocked. I have no words.
And yes at the end of Destruction does foreshadow Storm going to Space. This was good.
[spoil] I figured Storm was going to give Stormbreaker back. Storm should have thrown Italy their faces and said “Here’s your dumb blade back!! We almost lost!!” Lol [/spoil]

You KNOW my reaction.
I’m Happy. This was fun. And Storm was used very Well.
Agreed 100%! I'm glad X of Swords closed in an intense well presented battle and with some sees sown for future stories. I would have loved more Storm in Destruction but she was well featured in Excalibur. She had a strong presence in the closing of the event and it was refreshing to see a creative use of thunder clouds. Simple but used in an unexpectedly effective way. 10/10 for me today.
-
This overall was a pretty good showing for Storm which we haven't seen in quite a long time in an X Book. It also left breadcrumbs for things to come that may be exciting. There were definite pluses and minuses but it was fun speculating as the journey unveiled. So for that reason for me this event was a win. Also, she was called a Goddess and she's headed for the stars. Nice.
There was a comment earlier about the possibility of a Storm solo, but given they have released all of the current line up of books for Reign of X, unless it will be a surprise reveal or happen later, I'm still not sure that's on the cards. What I am happy about though is that this event has strengthen Storm's role and presence in the X Books again and I like that.

While I enjoyed X of Swords, I feel like it was 4 or 5 issues to long. There where some nice moments for Storm...so....

The whole point was to build Otherworld, the different realities, expand on world-building and story-background, it was a solid run. I am not happy about the contests they seemed boring to me personally, but definitely loved the end and the whole world-building and background story building. A lot of exploration and material there.
Furthermore, do you guys know who is out there, beside the Shi'ar's Empire? Come on, Storm brings her name quite often... who might be?
[spoil]Oshtur, of course! The Bright Lady![/spoil]
And she is both a Goddess and a proficient Sorceress, who else can teach our beloved one, to be a Goddess and a Magic Proficient if not her?
And as promised way back, before the XoS event started, I am sharing the thoughts which I had for what the event might bring for Storm! Check it out here!

If Storm is going to the Stars I can only believe she may just be some Liaison for Krakoa regarding Space Alien and stuff.

Oh I know you knew boo! Why would an omega level weather manipulator need a sword that creates lightning? It was obvious at that point what the endgame was. I also agree with people being too easily impressed because some of the "feats" were praising was nothing to write home about imo. I wouldn't have mind this story if there was actual buildup to the Marauders issue that would make it sensible. People said the marriage ame out of nowhere but she was literally fighting with alongside the wakandans prior to the xos and all the sudden she is ready to throw away her entire relationships/connections out of thin air? it was contrived mess.
and people are entitled to like what they like but even with today and what she did I haven't seen anything that just makes me wanna stand. when the xoffices show her stop doing basic weather stuff like lightning and wind shows and give me actual goddess feats then I will stan:

I think the purpose of the sword was obvious. The reactions varied. To be fair, Storm literally shocked and stunned Annihilation, the big bad of this event, and the leader and most powerful force in the incoming invasion. (Genesis without the mask is considered more powerful than Apocalypse and this was with the god force mask on). She also managed to hold back the entire first demon wave by herself to buy the XMen time. People were impressed when Storm held back Sinister and the Marauders on her own and this was that on a much larger scale. While it wasn't the most creative use of powers, I would argue that it was an impressive display of raw power on her part. That coupled with her hand to hand defeat of Death, a being who survived for 1000 years in combat, while being drunk and without her powers, and I'm confused as to how it makes one easily impressed.
-
I liked it! Best use of Storm in an X-event in ages! Obviously that's not hard given how little or how poorly she's been for ages, but still. Could her holding back the demon army been emphasized or depicted in greater detail? Sure. But it was still cool. Zapping Annihilation and calming Poccy was cool. Her dance and fight were cool! And she got wasted and walked the runway?

So as for the end of SoX. All that I cared for was Storm Striking out Genesis letting Apocalypse known what time it is.
The last panel of Storm and Logan looking rather rough was everything. I love seeing the toll of a hard won battle.
And lastly I love how the XOffice let you know she is not done with Wakanda yet, but will be away for while while she handle dangers in Space.
XoS gets 6o10. The cool Storm moment is what gave it high score . The lack of Death fights drop the Score.
-
You know I have to go back and look but seeing all the sword stuff I am dying laughing because with all storm did in excalibur I don't even think she used that sword other than the fight with death. Lol

That panel of her and logan was also one of my favorites for the exact same reason. I literally thought. "They did that!!" With a big grin.

I'm interested to see what they do with Death because he seemed really into her and I doubt he's the type to take no for an answer lol. It'd be cool to see what he's up to in Sevalith and if he tries to exact his revenge on Ororo in the future. Unfortunately he'll probably end up getting turned into a joke into trash ass Excalibur but the potential is there lol.
But yea that moment with Storm and Apocalypse was cool. Definitely a highlight for her character just because of how much gravitas she brought.
How is Death alive?
Vampires know how to feed without completely draining someone. Or he has advanced healing. I mean, all of them must have something extra going on to live through thousands of years of war.
-
Babaaaaay!!! I just saw what Storm did to one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe and i'm gagging! Yes GAWD!!! Storm is letting the girls know she ain't the one!;) I also loved her leadership in keeping all the mutants together instead of separated letting them know it would mean death for them all if they did. She's off to another adventure after she returned the Skybreaker to Wakanda. Said she's headed for the stars which makes me think she's headed on a mission outer space for mutantkind. It's gonna be interesting to see how her relationship with Wakanda is in the later future.
This really is goddess stuff, X-office need to stop the talk and start showing it
Hello?! That right there was some Claremontian type writing. Storm consciousness spread across the cosmos allowing her to connect to all its energy in space? Thats insane and the type of impressive showing that excites me as a fan. The XoS stuff was cute but nothing to write home about imho.
I think the purpose of the sword was obvious. The reactions varied. I acknowledged her showings in the last book were nice but even with this its the same song and dance. We've seen her dispatch armies of aliens in Fearless with lightning to which Captain Marvel and Invisible Woman's were in awe. We've seen Storms lightning hurt X-man/Legion when Jean and others couldn't stop him. My point is seeing storm use lightning and wind in the fashion we saw in the XoS isn't new or even that creative. Seeing Storns power taken away to show she can still handle her own isn't new,, duggan did this early on in Marauders. Show me her shutting down legions of the army by shutting down their brains, or removing the air from their lungs. Show me her preventing the army from advancing by creating an impenetrable shield of air. Show me a storm sending an emp or radiation energy wave that instantly ko their forces. Show me her integrating her H2H abilities in tandem with her powers, why does she have to always be stripped of her powers for this to be shown (see Xmen World Apart)? That would be some goddess type stuff. What XoS showed me as a reader was more of the same and its hard for me to be excited about that when it feels so repetitive.
-
You definitely can't please everbody. I'm glad the overall consensus seems to be this is a great time for storm.
a vampire death would be the perfect rogue for her.
How would he ever be a danger to her though? She allready bested him at his best, while being weakend. So what can he do the next time he shows up?
If he does anything openly she just lightning bolts him, throws him in a tornado or rains ice blades down on him. If she got her powers supressed she just stabs him again. If he tries to mindcontroll her she breaks out. If he tries to turn her into a vampire too, he just makes her stronger, if it works at all. If he takes hostages she frees them or kills him before he can harm them. Etc.
And if all else fails, she has friends, many of them, who will come to her aid.
This Death does not look like he has the mental, physical or power based dimension which would be necessary to best Storm in a way which would feel earned, after all the various enemies she has defeated over the years. Especialy after his showing in the event.
Just my two cents.

But remember she bested him by reflecting his death stare or whatever with the sword. She was lucky she had it or she would've been in trouble. I would love to see a raw fight between them though. If Geneisis survived a lightning bolt I don't see why he can't.

And she is both a Goddess and a proficient Sorceress, who else can teach our beloved one, to be a Goddess and a Magic Proficient if not her?
And as promised way back, before the XoS event started, I am sharing the thoughts which I had for what the event might bring for Storm! Check it out here!
The goddess power is her magic potential. Divine or holy energy is magic. Also Sersi "magic" is also transmuation

I think turned her eyes to the sky means she's about to do something big in the last two issues of Black Panther. Which is why that's the was a reason it was a long hold.

They have already advertised Ororo, Scott, and Jean are going to Shi'Ar space.
Coates story is completely out of sync with the rest of the books. Considering T'Challa was lost in space for a long time and has only just recently returned, Coates BP has to take place before the current Avengers run where T'Challa is chairperson. Which means the conclusion of his run has essentially no bearing on the rest of the line....
Just my two cents.
if he is a vampire, which I'm assuming he is, his undead abilities plus his own mutant abilities would make him a worthy opponent to ororo. ororo as strong as she is still can be struck down by mortal means and death doesn't have that weakness against him any longer.

his books were not completely out of sync. in his books he referenced krakoa and storm working there and in Hickman's books Magneto spoke with hodari who was created by Coates. at any rate misalignment with other books or not coates' run is still canon and the verdict is still out on how it will impact ororo moving forward. Hickman is still referring to her as a goddess which was canonized by Coates.
