Who ever said that there can’t be multiple hearts and souls of the team? I love Jean, but it’s not like the x-men lost all hope during the periods of time where she was deceased. The are other mutants who are just as devoted to the dream as she is.
Have you not read the 2000s/2010s era lol?
But you don't cease to be the heart and soul of the team even if you're dead. Particularly when everybody knows you'll be coming back soon enough. Think of the Rogue Storm story or Kitty's fairy tale and how Jean factored into those even while "dead."

The X-men entered their darkest era when she died.

Seems like we can't get away with the competition aspect within the fandoms. The "heart and soul" of the team is subjective. In my mind Storm fits but others may feel the same for Jean, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, whomever. As others said multiple characters may fit the description.
I just want to get to a place where we don't always play "who is the most powerful", "who is the most important, etc". There are threads on comicsvine that will literally make you regret paying for internet service (re: Jean vs Storm). I will never understand comparing the two powerwise when they are so different (if they had the same power I might understand it better).
Storm and Jean are great together. I loved them on the original Gold Team and I loved them together in X-men Red. Some characters work well together.

Anyways, the giant size issues are direct colaborations betwen the artist and the writer, so both carry weight of the narrative, especially dauterman wanted to do a storm issue 1st of all and he wanted to reference the silent issue.
the same way the cover in issue one was telling of two telepaths going into ororo's mind as a stylistic background, I think ororo enveloped or coming off a background of pure energy looking resolute tells me it will probably be another instance of ororo utilizing her power in a similar fashion to the brood infection, but ofc with bigger implications.
And also, it's time to preorder and tell everyone to do the same because those numbers are what matters to show there's a demand for ororo, marvel won't care unless it's money speaking, and that's the truth.

im not sure x-men red was balanced enough for me to see it a sign of their relantionship since jean was pretty much the white saviour troupe for the entire series and then ororo did nothing relevant besides creating that tsunami and looking pretty in that run.

Well it was basically a Jean book so not sure it needed to be balanced, but Jean and Storm had good interactions. Storm supported her friend. I do personally prefer Storm to be a leader, but in Red it was a Jean centered book. Storm was a supporting character. If you look back at the Gold Team days it was more of a Storm (and Colossus) show than a Jean centered book. So I guess there is balance in that respect.
I just like it when they are on the same team. Another time they were together was after Onslaught: Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Wolverine, and Cannonball. I loved that team.

My two cents is that every writer has their favorites and that's not always going to include your favorites. Storm has been my absolute favorite for almost 30 years (and I'm 37 so that's most of my life). I wish Hickman would find a more interesting purpose for her in his greater plan, but he's not required to do that just because Storm has been one of the core X-Men for so long. Do I wish his stories had more diversity? Of course. And that goes for all comics and especially the Disney/MCU movies.
He's saying Giant-Size X-Men: Storm is supposed to set up what he's planning on doing with her for the next few years so I hope it's good.

I bought a new Storm figure today. Let me see if I can attach a picture of my small Storm collection.

But I will say that Cyclops, Emma, and Kitty have not been interesting since Astonishing X-Men and Jean's return has been borderline hagiography.

To be fair the issue more comes from her treatment in mauraders than hickman, because storm has had some incredible character moments so far where her voice shines trough very clearly, a mix of divine strength and spirit with genuine compassion and love for life and others and righteous anger, the various scenes related to the ressurection process and x-men 1 first half especially the " I will never tire of uplifting our people" and she has been signaled from the very 1s't interaction with seraphina that the children of the vault are a story that involves her, and issue 5 progressed that into giant size that is meant to be somewhat connected leading to her issue.
The issue really comes from the fact she's stuck in mauraders that simply doesnt use her to her full necessity even if we get some cool moments here and there.
It's not enough and it certaintly is way overdue, but at the same time its better than gold, it is better than the constant narrative off ororo being a bad leader on the jean grey school, where she was written as this crass person when ororo is charisma incarnated, where most of her teammates besides like ... betsy? were either tired of her or ignored her commands, and evolving into near torture porn during the mists crisis.
The fact she has a narrative purpose with the children of the vault, an arc where she starts by being a supportive pillar, becoming increasingly tired to getting a serious blow that makes even two bitter rivals work together to save her because ororo is THAT important, she is more imporant than whatever drama, is better than the last years, while stilll not being nearly enough.

Russell Dauterman gives a great interview in this week's XM Monday over at AiPT!
He's a fan of both Jean and Storm and he had some very interesting things to say of both.

Even sick, Storm is still Storm. LOL

Exactatiously. LOL
I can almost see him doing something very similar with her, in GSXM:S, referencing that Storm vs Cal scene where even as she's incapacitated by the virus she's able to "cut that CotV bitch" figuratively speaking and save the day.

I hope black panther is the special guest in the giant sized issue.
