I agree with the general positive change in direction being made possible by a traumatic event like this for Ororo and Emma but I too, would’ve liked to have seen more exposition with it. I think Bobby’s allotment of pages could’ve been switched with Storm and Emma’s because I feel that issue was more important and impactful than Bobby popsicling people as cool as that was.
I think Kitty's Death is a possible start to them TRYING to be Friends.
I like the exchange because we RARELY see Storm become Emotional like that.
I mean this is a Woman who makes sure she keeps her emotions incheck becuase of her powers. But she made a promise that she will never turn her back or abandon Kitty or leave her alone etc. And she did the VERY thing she said she wasn't going to do. And for that she lost a Little Sister/Daughter however you wanna call it.
When Storm had her emotional outburst with her powers. I felt that....THAT hit my Hear Strings. We KNOW Storm is PISSED and MAD and ANGRY and FRUSTRATED and HEART BROKEN.
That's why i'm VERY shocked Emma gave Storm a Hug....who does that??? Who tries to console the person who hates your guts. That was very big of Emma. And i'm sad for Storm.
I loved it.
This is very true as well but I just would’ve liked more detail in their interaction. More discussion about how both cared for Kitty. More acknowledgement of their past in order to address and properly move on from it. A storm raging in the background when Storm landed in a fury on Emma’s terrace. Icy breath. That kinda stuff
-

I could see that too. As for Emma hugging her mid-argument, I’m sure as a telepath she could feel the pain radiating off of Ororo. Knowing that in the exact moment, all she needed was a release. That’s how I like to view it at least.

I agree. I would have loved that as well.
But that Emotional Outburst she had in front of Emma made me feel very SAD and I really Felt Storm's anger and sadness. Because i've lost a friend that I wanted to be their for.

I agree.
That's a BIG STEP. I do applaud Emma for that and then turn around and thank Storm for Cyclops and stuff like that. This was very damn this is too emotional to me.

I agree with your assessment which is why I think i was initially underwhelmed by the issue. it would have been nice to see emma take ownership for a lot of her past behavior but I must say seeing ororo slap the shit out of her was so marvelous to see and it was well deserved.

I dont think they could ever truly be friends but it could lead to ororo being more open to trusting her. I think that mokent of emma sharing her feelings about her speech was a very nice moment. we saw ororo in her most vulnerable state crying and expressing her emotion (something we seldom see). we then see emma sharing how she was inspired by ororo, which in her way to offer ororo hope was also allowing herself to be vulnerable to someone she has had a complicated past with. though condensed there was a lot there I just wish duggan would have went a bit deeper with it.

All of that you just said are building blocks to becoming Friends.
I think Storm and Emma can truly be Friends. They both have to let go ALL that Bagage and animosity they have for each other.
And this Issue showed us that....Storm and Emma can ACTUALLY truly be Friends and trust each other. But not immediately. It's going to take some time.
It may not be now or next issue or next year, but their IS a possibility. A Chance.
And if the Story Calls for it or the Direction Calls for it....then they will always be Enemies. I feel like this is a good Development for both Characters to finally start moving forward and leaving the past in the past. And Try to be Friends.

there is a reason why ororo doesnt trust emma. none of that has changed simply because kitty died. emma is going to have to work towards building those bridges as she burned most if not all of them many years ago.

But that's what this scene shows us is that it can. It's just a process they have to go through.
-
I'm kinda torn, I don't mind that a bigger altercation didn't happen since it honestly wasn't Emma's fault but I'm not sure I completely buy them finding comfort in each other. I think I'd prefer them immediatly making plans to find out what happened and how to get her back and finding trust in each other while getting to work.
-
i kinda liked it since emma was for once compassionate and respectfull of ororo. where before shed have been snarky, bitchy and misdirecting the blame, or mocking the situation to avoid being vulnerable and honest
im a huge emma fan but she never made it easy to ease tensions, in here at the very least she saw ororo as another person, not as a rival to overtrow or someone to talk down to

that is what I thought was huge that emma opened up emotionally to ororo in a way she never has before. I dont like emma for all the trolling and attempts on ororo's life in the past but seeing her open up to her in this way is a step towards perhaps working towards a reconciliation I can stomach.
I'm just ready for ororo to finally show what makes her omega. at this point I've yet to see it.

exactly. I'm all for it if emma acknowledges some of the messed up ish she has done to miss yao. let's see where things go.

I have very little use for the red queen, yet I can't wait to see Shaw get his just reward. I hope Storm is part of his comeuppance.

what would have been cute was seeing her unleash subconsciously on the weather outside Emma's home. kinda like we saw when wolverine died.

But, NOW Marvel wants to acknowledge that she is one of the Top Players in the Marvel Universe......? Ok, Marvel I shall hold you too that.

Thanks for posting.
Make me wonder which look the MCU is going to go with her.
-
They tend to do completely covered looks, so I'm expecting some variation of the silver 90's will come eventually, but some bare arms for characters like Shuri and Thor suggests something like the original Alan Davis might be explored. Her current Red look is a reasonable approach too. I would love to see some of the more sexy X-Men looks nodded to in a pool party scene(so you can get away with Ororo in a two piece bikini with the metal circle clasp, for example), but I'm not sure they'll be that fun and cheeky.

:::Giggles::: Cheeky.
Yea the Silver 90s is most likely the main pick.
But would love the original. I mean Wonder woman got away with it. Or the Xtream look.

I'm guessing that's Ororo's upward lightning bolt. From Giant Size Jean Grey and Emma Frost.

Agree. Who are the adorable children? Do you know, in relation to the other X titles, when this story is supposed to take place?

Oh, I got you. Maybe Ororo had a mental breakdown after Kitty's murder?? I wouldn't think it of her. But maybe she feels guilty for not being there to protect her. Or maybe the goddess side of her wants to seek the ultimate justice for Kitty's murder.

well don't forget she had a breakdown when wolverine died. so it necessarily be the first time even though I thought that was a bit much as well then.

I checked out Marauders #8...they shouldn’t have gone with that amazing cover or solicitation description. That execution came up pretty damn flat. Part of me is glad that it wasn’t some massive fight, because it wouldn’t be a good look for either Storm or Emma. But I was expecting better than what we got based on the cover and the solicit.
I enjoyed the issue but my main criticism is that there has been too much that’s happened between them in recent stories (IvX, AvX, Leah’s one-shot, and the fact that Storm turned Emma down for the Red Queen position before she could even finish her sales pitch lol) for those 2 pages to do this situation justice. They needed a more indepth conversation to give this moment more impact. It was still a meaningful exchange, and maybe all their past baggsge just didn’t merit a mention under the circumstances, but I felt like it was still missing some ingredients. I liked that they shared an emotional moment and, while I’d never see them being as close as Storm/Jean or Storm/Betsy, I can see the respect they have for each other (more so from Emma than from Storm). LOVED ICEMAN! He was hardcore and this is the level of vindictive vengeance I want to see from the mutants on the fools who don’t know when to pump their breaks. Plus, I know we have limited space in team books, but dammit Logan got a global aurora. I think Losing Kitty would be an equal if not greater display.
My other criticism is the art on some pages seemed weak sauce.
Anyway, 6.5-7/10.

A gentle reminder not to post scans/images/pages/whatever from pirate sites please. Go buy the books.

This is gorgeous! Makes me think of that classic X-Men issue where Sauron absorbed Storm’s energy and the upward eruption of that huge lightning bolt the other X-Men saw.

this is typical of an ororo stan, but I feel a change in the air that its gonna affect like.. the calm before... the storm.

Thanks. Waiting for next week. That art looks so good and, while she is getting a Giant Sized issue, I am hoping for good representation next week. It looks like it will be SK as the villain but part of me wonders if it’ll be someone new from Arrako.

Which is why on the big screen it's going to look so good.
White always look good a Dark tone skin. And then to have it blend with look of her hair which will make those blue eyes pop and stand out even more. And hopefullyly it's a full body suit that shows off everything and hides nothing. Just like Ned Flanders.
