That is an interesting cover. Storm looks great here. T'Challa and Logan being across from one-another as both have been love-interests, while Shuri and Jean are across from one-another as they are both considered as sisters to Storm is noted.

doeth mine eyes deceive me? are the xbooks actually acknowledging coates contribution to Ororo's mythos????? gorgeous cover bit time will tell if this is truly what is happening.

Wait Vita is writing this?? I’m nervous. I don’t know Vita’s writing style or work.
I hope Vita knows what’s going on with Storm in BP
Well, it was a cute Fight. And she did her best LOL.
Yeah lol. I was hoping for a more expanded fight but it was an up hill battle for Ororo, even without Gamora’s mega upgrade. Win or lose I just wanted Storm battle tested against an accomplished combatant, but just based on her superhuman stats (40-50 tonner alreay) pre-upgrade Ororo would be paste.
-
also with this cover I'm curious as to tchallas interaction with Logan. thought logan and ororo had a flying with Jean being back and ororo being with tchalla I wonder would there be any drama because of that. I most certainly hope not.
-
There better be at least one awkward interaction between Logan and T'Challa. Or maybe the two of them consoling one another and talking about how Ororo was the one that got away.
-
has vita confirmed they are writing this? I thought it was Duggan?
they posted this cover and description on their own personall twitter, not retweeted so its like an official annoucement, liked comments asking if they were going to write it, yeah they are 95 % surely writting it.

I'm not sure of their writing either but vita does love them some storm so that is encouraging. what is this talk of her being a queen too is this a reference to what Hodari mentioned in the xmen book:

That energy signature in the background indicates that Manifold might also make an appearance.
I wonder why Duggan may not be writing this issue?

I think Logan is too fixated on Jean to carry one way or another about Jean honestly. with xforce and him literally sharing living quarters adjacent to jean ororo I'm sure is the furthest thing on his radar.

Wait wait wait so is Storm “The Thief” and “The Queen” referenced? Will this story spin out of whatever happens in Giant Size: Storm? Is Storm’s role of Ten of Swords something to do with her new, larger direction spinning out of whatever happens in GSX:Storm? As was so poignantly pointed out earlier, Logan and T’challa as well as Shuri and Jean are very particular and unique juxtaposition characters to Ororo, so will this part of the XoS storyline have Storm as the main focus. WHAT is going ON. I have so many questions and an eternity to wait for answersss *dramatically falls to the floor in feigned exasperation*

The thief and queen to me are references to ororo as she has/is both. I do also think her role in the x of swords is why she and tchalla are involved. one poster hypothesized that she would get a vibranium sword from tchalla. I dont necessarily take much stock in covers as they typically are not an indication of what will happen in the comic these days but I most certainly hope tchalla and ororo are loving on each other. I need Coates work to be reinforced whenever possible.

so vita IS NOT writing the issue with BP and shuri its Gerry Duggan:

Well he did give her a vibranium dagger, so a sword wouldn't be too out the norm. T'Challa's been showering Storm with outfits and weapons since X-Men Red lol. But I'd be really interested in seeing how T'Challa factors in. I'm cautiously optimistic.

yea I was thinking about the vibranium dagger he gave her as well. and tchalla has lowkey been in the background helping ororo in the xbooks since red but what I'm hoping to see is more explicit expressions of their care and love for one another. I think vita is actually a fan of what coates was doing so I am also cautiously optimistic we will get a nice story with vita on the issue.

Yea I'm not the biggest fan of their romance anymore but I'll take a well written T'Challa even if it comes from the X-books. Personally I think the "secret flight" referenced is about how they have a deep relationship but keep it on the low because their countries are both great powers.
While Wakanda and Krakoa are non-aggressive right now, they are technically rivals and I think Storm has to juggle her responsibilities to both. We saw setup for that when she was having that convo with Nakia and we've seen how she advocated for mutants to live out in the world on the Quiet Council.

why arent you a fan of the romance? I also love the theory about secret flight. I couldnt quite place what that could mean but your theory definitely works for me.
now where are you getting they are rivals? I know wakanda didn't accept their aid but I didnt think that placed them as rivals? and agreed to your last points ororo has definitely been advocating for them to not live isolated from the rest of the world.

I've gone on about this before but long story short I think that there's been some hostility from the X-Office to Black Panther. I like Ororo (and their first marriage) but I think X-writers and fans dislike T'Challa so you get stuff like the narrative that Wakanda hates mutants. I'd prefer T'Challa with a woman from his own mythos like Monica Lynne or Nakia. Neither will ever be as popular as Storm but I think they're more stable.
Like I said, Wakanda and Krakoa are non-aggressive, but they both have certain goals in conflict. Krakoa wants to dominate the global economy, Wakanda included. T'Challa is an Avenger, which means he won't stand for things like mutant immunity or their support for villains. Wakanda also gained 3 protectorates that rejected the mutant deal. I don't think they'll come to blows just yet but I think the potential for tension is there.
-
So much for the Sword of Bones...oh well, It was a delovely expectation while it lasted.
-
If Storm gets a Vibranium Blade she BETTER keep it

I honestly think what you see is more a reflection of the lack of diversity in the creative side. Look at how Coates has written them as a couple versus others. he wrote to reinforce their love showing them supporting each other while working towards one common goal of protecting wakanda. others, such as aaron, chose to write them bickering and fighting like bickering children. Guggenheim chose to write her kissing gambit randomly. So I get the resseveration but considering Vita is a POC i think more care will be taken in how they choose to depict the only prominent black couple in the marvel books. zits the care that coates took because he is conscious of the importance of this.
There definitely us potential tension i cant deny that but any potential conflict, if written in character, I see ororo actively working with tchalla to diffuse it which hoes back to Hodari statements to magneto.

OT, but she's doing an incredible sounding movie with the director of Love & Basketball/The Old Guard. Lupita was rumored to star as well, but may have scheduling issues.
The film is a historical epic inspired by true events that took place in The Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The story follows Nanisca (Davis), general of the all-female military unit, and her daughter Nawi, who together fought the French and neighboring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.

You're 100% right, which is why I'm cautiously optimistic that Vita will do both characters justice. As a person of color, I expect her to be more sensitive to some of the narratives that develop around T'Challa in the fandom and that she'll try to give a solid representation of his romance with Storm. If there were more writers like her at the X-Office I'd be much more happy with the BP-Storm relationship.
And I agree that if a situation rises between Krakoa and Wakanda, or really any non-mutant heroes, it'll eventually get diffused and addressed. While I think some tension is inevitable I don't think Hickman's intention is to shit all over the wider MU just to prop up the X-Men. And Storm definitely deserves to be one of those big figures keeping the peace.

1. indeed. she has written both BP and storm before so that is encouraging she is aware of the development Coates has written.
2. yea hickman did a good job writing the avengers and unless there is some editorial push for this clash between the xmen/avengers
oan I'm wondering how specifically the giant size issue leads to a larger role for ororo. it's clear she will be involved with the x of swords but that doesnt seem that impactful to me. whatever happens it seems she somehow finds a way to beat the virus within her.

It doesnt feel like a big story considering its not present anywhere. We really should have scenes signs of her infection in Maraurders but as it stands the GS issue appears to be fairly self contained,. Its so odd especially with how connected the books are in DOX. Storm is infected and about to die in 30 days, yet there's no sense of urgency bc she is appearing completely fine elsewhere

exactly. from the covers that have been released there is like zero indication she was sealing with any ailments. I've seen many complain about how lackluster the giant sized issues have been (though I enjoyed the emma and jean one) and I'm hoping considering the stakes involved this is not the case.
