I wouldn't hold this against Carol given that Monica did the same thing with the Captain Marvel moniker when she first took it and it wasn't hers to give away in the first place.
And who exactly did Monica need to clear the name with, especially since the press named her and Captain America agreed it was a fitting name? Remember, Carol at this time was Binary. She was not even remotely concerned about Mar-Vell's legacy. Further, Mar-Vell didn't have any children then. Very few people knew about his widow, Elysius, and in any event, Captain was his rank, Mar-Vell was his name. Captain Marvel was just a Terran bastardization of the two. :) Last I checked, if President Trump dies and I decide to name my child President Trump, I don't need to clear it with the Donald's widow or family first for any reason whatsoever. My child's mother might have something to say about it, but the name is fair game.
Not very familiar with most of these characters (aren't Graviton and Midnight's Son villains).
As I see it, the Ultimates would face existential threats that would compel even villains to join up. That said, Midnight Son is not a villain. He's occasionally a mercenary for hire, but at last check he is on good terms with both Shang Chi (he helped resurrect Leiko Wu) and Silver Surfer.
As for Graviton, even though his powers wouldn't be unique to the team (Adam can also manipulate gravitons, as it is its own antiparticle), but Hall is a specialist in the field without equal. It wouldn't take much to make him a hero in the short term. They say power is to blame for his corrupt behavior, but a brain tumor can do the exact same thing. What if his gravity powers resulted in extradimensional mass forming in his brain, and that's why he constantly shifts between criminality and megalomania? Sounds like the kind of problem the Ultimates can solve, for which Hall would be tremendously grateful.
I think you'd be better off making an original indigenous character for the new Quasar since Proudstar will inevitably be taken back to the X-books.
Yep, I just heard that Proudstar will be coming back in some shape or form like Bucky. Not surprised.
My point was that I'd want the writers of a hypothetical Ultimates series to bring new creative energy to the roster. They wouldn't need to follow my exact recommendations to the letter. Marvel's cupboards are fully stocked with characters that haven't seen the light of day in ages. Forgotten characters are just as good as new creations. Take Jade the mystical Firebird entity from Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19 (1975). I could create a new OC, or I could bring her mythos into the present age with some light tweaking. The only difference is on the business side of it, but I don't imagine Disney/Marvel would need to further compensate Bill Mantlo or George Pérez for creating Jade, unless she somehow wound up in the MCU.

I hadn’t seen the post you’re replying to here, or I would’ve at least commented on Monica/Captain Marvel. I remember her debut, and no one was even thinking of using the Captain Marvel name back then. Fans were actually quite pleased to see it return.

Honestly I don't think either Monica or Carol needed to get anyones permission to use the name Captain Marvel at the time since no one was using it in either case.
For Monica it was simply a random name she chose, and for Carol it was taking on the name of a hero she personally knew. She had a legitimate right to be his legacy character if none of his kids wanted the name.
So all around I'd say both were free and clear.

If we're truly being honest, Monica was just a placeholder for the name. It's the difference between her and Carol. For all intents and purposes the name is now permanently Carol's. No one ever said that about Monica. If Carol somehow manages to lose the name (due to death or something like that), she'll get it back. Monica will never have that privilege. And she'll never be pushed as Marvel's flagship character. Let's just hope that she keeps her current name longer than she kept Captain Marvel, Pulsar and Photon.

I got to say Monica kind of got done dirty on the name...Mar Vell's kid shows up and takes it...then he comes back again after jacking another one of her names...and she just takes it.
From trivia section on https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Monica_Rambeau_(Earth-616)
Monica has changed her codename twice because of Genis-Vell. He first objected to her using the name Captain Marvel, originally used by his deceased father, so she became Photon. Recently, he began using the name Photon, and Monica became Pulsar.
Those Vell family are dirty like that as far as stealing names goes. Phyla took Wendells name (when she couldn't sucessfully take her fahers name from her brother, Hulklings name is an obvious take off the Hulk, while Genis stole Monica's name twice. Even their old man arguably was guilty of that, if you ask the folks over at DC.

Honestly...I really think that Marvel and DC need to work that out. Maybe DC can not use it as an editorial name...but the character can be called that in-universe. The book is The Power of Shazam...but in the stories he is called Captain Marvel.

I think DC basically waved the white flag on that one. Really, the casual fan didn't even know Billys name was actually Captain Marvel. Marvel getting a Captain Marvel movie basically cemented things.

Actually, anyone growing up in the 70s definitely knew that Shazam was the wizard and Captain Marvel was Billy Batson's alter ego. I still remember fondly waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch the TV show. And I'll never forget Isis (played by JoAnna Cameron). My first grade teacher could have been her twin. I had the biggest crush on both women.
Anyway, I digress. I just wanted to point out that DC sued Fawcett, which forced the latter company to pull the Captain Marvel comic. Fawcett's trademark lapsed and Marvel stepped in and took the name at that time. DC would later win the lawsuit against Fawcett and buy the rights to Captain Marvel and affiliated characters. If DC was smart, they would have offered to buy the rights to Captain Marvel first, instead of suing Fawcett over what I still don't think was a rock solid claim. I don't care what the court says, no comic reader ever confused Superman with Captain Marvel. Apparently having a cape, strength, the ability to fly and dark hair was all it took. Imagine if Ford could sue Mercedes Benz because they sold a box with seats in it that rolled around on wheels and happened to be made out of a metal alloy with bumpers.

Has Mr. Grevioux said anything about being asked by Marvel to adapt BM to a TV show or a movie, yet? Obviously he already comes from a background of film work.

I haven't seen anything posted on his social media or website to that effect.

Fantasy casting, anyone? Who would play Adam and Monica in your live action adaptation?
Who else would you want to see in it?

Given Adam is a bit on the older side, I think Denzel Washingtom might be cool.
Teyonah Parris will play Monica in WandaVision.

Dennis Haysbert as Blue Marvel. That would be my number one choice. I just think his voice gives him a commanding presence.
