My gut feeling is that it's simply to close her trilogy. An "Elseworlds" like Patterson's Batman films or the Joker films. I don't for a second believe Gadot will be the DCU Wonder Woman. I hope she can finish her trilogy and then move on.
Didn't Gunn at some point mention the word "Elseworlds" when referring to the Joker and The Batman in the context of those movies being somewhat adjacent to his DCU plans? Maybe you are right; maybe this supposed WW3 will be that.
-
I don’t get why they wouldn’t let Jenkins finish her trilogy if they planned to do an Elseworlds WW movie with Gadot. Per Jenkins they didn’t even give her the option of reworking her pitch, they basically just showed her the door. That’s why I don’t buy the idea that they’re going to an Elseworlds WW with Gadot. Either Gadot is incorrect in her belief, or they’re bringing her over to the DCU.

Not gonna lie, I would not be mad if Gal played Diana Trevor in a brief flashback scene for the DCU's eventual WW film. That would be a nice nod to the previous Diana, just like Lynda Carter playing Asteria was in WW84.

I think that'd be too soon. Could use a bit of separation before doing tributes to Wonder Women of yore.
-
Yeah, I don't buy the Elseworlds thing. The Batman and Joker get free passes to continue on their own because they're Batman and Joker and their respective movies were big successes. Wonder Woman, particularly Gadot's Wonder Woman--who is already tied to DCEU's continuity--is not getting that same special treatment.
It's worth remembering that Gunn's DCU Batman is apparently going to feature Damian as Robin with at least Dick running around as Nightwing--meaning Bruce is already going to be in the latter half of his career.
And didn't they also say Superman: Legacy takes place in the DCU's past to show Clark's start...implying that when it comes time for the inevitable Justice League team-up, they'll jump to "present."
Point is, I'm betting if WW3 happens, it'll be Diana passing the torch to a new Wonder Woman. Hippolyta will probably die, Diana will become Queen and stay on Themyscira, and Gunn's Wonder Woman going forward will be someone introduced in the movie like Nubia or Yara. Or, god forbid, Lizzie.
If that happens...I'm honestly not even if I should be upset about it. Diana will get her trilogy and end on something resembling closure and hopefully a high note. And if she's not around for the future, then I don't need to pay attention to Gunn's DCU.
I don't know how fans and general audiences will take that...a Justice League consisting of a new Superman, almost retired Batman, and legacy Wonder Woman...but I don't care about the League and welcome a good jumping off point.
The real fear would be the dreaded Synergy Train rolling on through.

I honestly don't expect them to do a Trinity like that so one way or another I think we'll still get Diana as the main Wonder Woman.
-
I am only interested in a Trinity that features Diana. I love Nubia and I am indifferent towards Yara, but Diana is, to me, the only Wonder Woman.
-
i think that, fortunately, while Stephanie Williams has a job at DC, Nubia will never be Wonder Woman. She clearly stated that she wanted for Nubia to be something more than "a black Wonder Woman" and that's pretty ok to me tbh. I dunno about Yara Flor, but I'd say that, due to copyright issues, literally no one else can be WW.
-
It doesn't look like Superman Legacy is going to be about his start since Gunn added bunch of other superheroes to it that logically shouldn't predate Clark.
-
No offense to Gal or Patty but I don't see how doing a third movie fits into the plans now. Reboots need to be fresh starts, or it's just messy.
People are already scratching their heads over how Aquaman 2 and Blue Beetle do or do not fit in with the "new" DC world Gunn is creating. The Flash was supposed to be the ending....at least it seemed that way.
Continuing on with Gal would only further that confusion. And I didn't get the impression that Patty had a trilogy in mind either. I'd be astonished if she was given the keys to the franchise again after WW84.

well, you see.... I think they WANT that. It's like picking up the pieces after a Crisis event in the comics, but for movies. They can borrow from previous movies. But more importantly ignore anything they want.

Yeah, but sometimes they change their minds on a dime notice, or say things to throw-off the public so we do not know exactly what are their plans. Plus, it doesn't have to be the end of the DCCU, but maybe that of Ezra Miller (at least for the present time).

The Twittersphere is not the real world.

I have heard that it's a contract thing. Gadot (and by extension Mamoa) had successful outings as their respective DC heroes, even WW84 did well financially even if it wasn't received well critically. So they can't justify throwing out Gadot and Mamoa like they can with Affleck, Cavill and Ezra.
Hence why there is talk of Mamoa likely staying on as DCU's Aquaman or getting recast as Lobo and Gadot doing WW3. We'll likely get the DCU WW after Gadot does WW3.
-
Then wouldn't they want to fasttrack WW3 to get it out and therefore allow a clear path to a new version?
-
Maybe they don't know where to go with WW and the tv show and this project are supposed to fill the gap till they figure out what to do?
-

DC/WB still don't know what to do with WW after 82 years. Sigh.

Jenkins had a script already. They could’ve reworked it with her, instead they pushed her out so now they have no script and no director. Any WW movie is coming out in 2027 at the absolute earliest. That’s well into the DCU, when exactly are they going to cast a new WW? How long would they wait between WW3 and a reboot? No there’s no way this is a continuation of the DCEU. Either Gadot is wrong and she’s not WW (Gunn’s silence indicates that it’s not as clear cut as Gadot says) or she will be part of the DCU. Perhaps they might recast her in a new role like they reportedly plan to do with Mamoa, but if they wanted to quickly get one last movie out the door with Gadot and then recast, their actions thus far are the worst possible way to go about that.

This is pure speculation on my part, but if I had to guess, I'd say Gunn originally told Gadot she was stayig as Wodner Woman (remember that when Jenkins was fired, Gadot posted she was still excited to bring the character to new places) but now they're having doubts after the failure of the Flash.
-

Yeah, the "keep the stuff that worked" approach is really biting them in the ass - it seems like they hadn't even figured out what "worked" from the outset. Even Zachary Levi is still yammering on about how he doesn't know if Shazam will be in the DCU and thinks they might include him. Of course, all The Flash did was reaffirm how aggressively the public has rejected the entire DCEU brand, and it's one thing to bring back Peacemaker/TSS because they're totally disconnected but Gal was arguably the DCEU's central star.
I feel like the studio didn't want to commit to axing her so Gunn and Safran gave her a courtesy meeting and a "we'll find a place for you" as they led her out the door, which she interpreted as confirmation that WW3 was still happening. Everything she's said has sounded really uncertain. My guess is that they're working it out behind the scenes so she can announce her departure on her own terms rather than finding out through a James Gunn tweet, and I suspect the SAG-AFTRA strike is holding that process up.
Frankly the fact that they're so disorganized out the gate feels like yet another piece of evidence that the Gunnverse is pretty much DOA.
Maybe they don't know where to go with WW and the tv show and this project are supposed to fill the gap till they figure out what to do?
I think the TV show is 100% a way to stall but I don't think the issue is that they don't know what to do with WW, I think it's that they didn't know what to do with Gal. If they'd announced a project with Diana they would've had to announce a recast up front, but they knew they had to announce something WW-related. As others have said, they canceled WW3 because it didn't fit into their plans for the new DCU, they're not going to do it as an elseworlds project without Patty Jenkins.
-

To be frank, she never said that she would be Diana, although by mentioning that the character is dear to her heart in the same interview is definitely something that may seem like she would be playing WW. At this point, it's all a mystery that only Gunn, Safran, and maybe Gadot herself, know for sure.
-
How exciting is Gal Gadot's contributing to a WW movie in a capacity other than playing the lead role? I feel like it'd be like watching Magic Johnson coach the Lakers instead of starring for them.

After what has happened on World's Finest: titans 2 I'm kinda thinking that it would be interesting to see a World's Finest Wonder Woman that, as the other series, tells interesting stories about a younger Diana, and retcons her origins in a very subtle way.

Yes, a Wonder Woman book in a universe overseen by one of her worst writers, and goes out of his way to denigrate good WW runs, is definitely something Wonder Woman needs.
Would Waid be co-writing with Tom Taylor or Christopher Priest?

Ooooh Big Barda vs Wonder Woman, nice.
Fitting since I'm pretty sure she's the only character in that team that can take on Diana. Though amusingly Zealot is I believe the Wildstorm Wonder Woman riff.
-
Zealot is a bit weird since she has a heavy emphasis on her weapons and stuff, she has far greater strength than a human, but really isn't "super" strong.
-
Id love to see WW take on both. Be a fun fight where yes...WW would get some punches and cuts but ultimately would prevail

Indeed. Zannah especially resembled Diana during Zealot's time using the Lucy Blaze persona. She even worked for the government in DC and had black hair.
