Yeah, even these casual references to daddy-Zeus status just annoy me to no end. Like rubbing salt in the wound. :p
January is when this all this Death Metal stuff ends, so that can't come soon enough.
Diana looked like she was fighting Slade on even terms... the art made it look cool sure but this should have been a far more one sided battle. Though tbf Deathstroke didn't land a single hit so, better then their last one on one encounter. Lair Lair gets a bit interesting with her metal breakdown, however she still doesn't seem to have any reason for wanting max dead, part of me thinks she's being controlled by the Queen of Fables given the illusions but.... I'm not about to give Tamaki any hope. Also, what is with her and daddy issues? Is DC really pushing this hard to have Diana be super associated with her "dad"?

The most recent issue actually managed to pique my interest. If it's revealed that Liar has been manipulated by another Wonder Woman villain disguised as the rabbit all this time it would greatly improve my opinion of this run. My mind initially went to Duke of Deception, but Queen of Fables would work too given the theming of Liar's delusions.

That and Diana proclaiming herself to be “the universe’s greatest warrior.” Seemed OOC to me.
That and Diana proclaiming herself to be “the universe’s greatest warrior.” Seemed OOC to me.
Yea, that title doesn't seem to fit considering she doesn't usually fight beings worthy enough to give her that title. Usually is goons, mercs, robots, or street levelers.

I felt same with saying she’s stood over slain enemies like BMWL before.
It makes her come across as a bit egotistical, which is not a trait I want to associate with Diana.
I don't mind DC calling Diana the "universes greatest warrior", but it needs to be shown consistently and that she isn't a Zena warrior woman clone. I think this is one of the draw backs with DC's current chief teams, its one extreme or the other, there is no room for nuance in the WW character. She is a warrior and comes from a culture that values certain warrior traits, but what does that mean?
I don't think it makes Diana egotistical to be proud of her skills, especially if she earned that title in some universal fighting tournament. Egotistical would be if she boasted and walked with too much pride claiming that none can beat her or that she looked down on others for being inferior.

Yeah, I don't think any WW fan wanted to read that.
I thought Diana's section in Last Stories of the DC Universe was okay but nothing noteworthy. And maybe a bit confusing. I liked Donna's story better.

I mean, it has to be the Queen of Fables since that's her shtick. But I would be surprised if it was a classic WW villain and not some new character or a different hero's villain. This run has already set a low precedent for that.

I sort of expect Liar Liar and Lord to be redeemed after this, watch Tamaki reveal that the entity pretending to be a rabbit manipulated Max and his daughter the whole time.
Re-watching the first Wonder Woman animated film, and omg. Steve Trevor is a misogynistic piece of crap when he first arrives. I forgot how much I disliked him in it.

The entity should be revealed at Dr. Psycho, who was making himself appear as a rabbit, and manipulating the entire thing.

I really despise Steve in that movie. They tried so hard to make him a Han Solo-esque "cool guy" charmer but my god did they miss the mark.

I literally have Side Eye Chloe face every time he’s on screen.
Ha. This is my 3456th post.

Yeah, I had some worries about how Steve would be portrayed in the live-action films because of the ‘09 film.
Steve's portrayal in the 2009 film has indeed aged poorly.
The 09 movie really hasn't aged well. The core story is there, but the execution is off. Etta and Steve are big reasons for that. Virginia Madsen as Hippolyta was inspired voice casting, and when Diana first arrives, the old homeless drunk that sees her and says "Wuzza... Look at that lady!" and then passes back out is a funny bit.... but in all, when I try to rewatch it, I find it to difficult to get around the ruin of Etta Candy and the stupid "grown frat boy" nature of Steve Trevor.
Also in the 2009 movie, it should have been either Hera, Aphrodite, or Athena who magically bring Diana to life. Not Zues.

I know they used a thunderbolt to indicate the clay being brought to life but I thought it was Hera since she was the one doing the narration.
Fanboy quibble I had was we never got Ares in his Perez armor. :p

Loved the way Niccola Scott drew it too. Its definitely his most iconic look.

Yeah, Perez had a real hit-and-miss track record for character designs but he gets a pass for me on that Ares design.

The Pérez fan in me makes it hard to hate some of his designs. I’m in absolute love with his Disco Dick Nightwing look.

In honor of Wonder Woman 1984, Toonami will be airing Bloodines and Justice League: A New Frontier on December 19th.

Hmm, while I'm not really a fan of it, odd they're not airing the '09 film.
Though Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman is never a bad thing. :p

I've read speculation that they didn't want to air movies with two different WW origins :p.

Did perez draw Barbra cheetah? If so He lacked the tear lines which i noticed after his run she never has at all?!? Maybe artists never seen those big cats before. There's so much I want to say about cheetahs design from Priscilla to current & JL/U, DCAU, her spots, tear lines etc that really irk me..... buuuut that's a whole other conversation and I don't want to derail This Thread so yeah ugh

I wonder why they chose Bloodlines if that's the case.
I wonder why they chose Bloodlines if that's the case.
Bloodlines feels more influenced by the 2017 film to me. This of course makes sense as it is also the more recent one, and I'm sure possible DVD/Blu Ray sells were a factor, too.

Bloodlines' take on the origin was more in-line with the movie since they foregoed the contest and just had Diana take Steve with Hippolyta warning her off.
Plus, even if it wasn't the best use of her, Cheetah is more of a presence in Bloodlines compared to her cameo in the original solo film.

Yikes, you're right. How sad that Bloodlines' atrocious appearance was better than the original '09 film's.

Well, better in that it wasn't a cameo, I guess :p.
If they wanted more Cheetah they really should've gone with JL Doom, the only animated movie where she didn't suck.

Atrocious?? Haha i think bloodlines is the most I've ever seen cheetah do in the entire DCAU!

I disliked Wonder Woman's portrayal and characterization in that film. I also don't Cheetah's plan was dumb and made Diana look like a complete moron. So Wonder Woman is just going to keep fighting all of these multiple Cheetahs until she dies? Not once did she wonder where Cheetah got this ability to multiply herself or why these Cheetahs were not fighting back in defense with their super strength and speed? Could she not hear the screams or wonder why these Cheetahs were not working in tandem to defeat her? Nothing about that movie and Wonder Woman said "Wisdom of Athena."

Also Wonder Woman can fly and had the lasso of truth on her. She didn't have to fight at all but DC came up with a stupid excuse that Diana was competitive and enjoys fighting.

In fairness, Bruce’s plan for Diana in the original Tower of Babel was also pretty dumb/kind-of-a-stretch so it’s not like they were building off something great. :p
