I watched Wonder Woman (2009) for the first time in years. For some reason, I'd convinced myself I didn't like this film, but I enjoyed it much more than I remembered. I think it's mainly Steve's characterization that irks in this film, but once I get over that, it is much more enjoyable.
I forgot that the final battle was in D.C. I know there's a lot of debate here about Diana's home city, but she really does work in D.C. It's just a perfect fit. I loved the animation, the voice acting, the use of Ares, and the ending credit with Cheetah. I wish this world come have continued, but I could settle for an Animated Series.
Here's hoping the Justice Society movie does right by Diana and Steve.
I think there were plans for a sequel but WB didn't like the sales, so it was axed.
I liked Ares' characterization and his voice but I hated his design.
-
I loved the movie and was so pissed we didnt get a sequel. Gail Simone helped write it and I think she did a great job.

We have a good amount of WW coming this month don't we!
I feel Washington D.C. fits Diana better than a fictional city, given how her status as an icon is equally tied to politics as it is entertainment.
Yeah they really made Steve an ass in this movie. At least he developed as a character.
I loved the movie and was so pissed we didnt get a sequel. Gail Simone helped write it and I think she did a great job.
Oh, I didn't know Simone had a hand in this! Maybe if they had a sequel Cheetah would have been treated fairly and not just a growling punching bag that animated movies love to use her as. At least at the end of this movie she got to look cool for a second.
But seriously, Cheetah must be the most used character in DC animated movies that doesn't say a word.
Edit: Actually I remember Doomsday is a thing so maybe he's got her beat. :p
-
I mean the thing is with how much Supernatural Diana is it has to be also that. The best way would have it be yes she does live in D.C but there is also another place. Gateway City. Another city within a city. A supernatural place for magical beings. Diana isn't just a political figure. But much more. It has to show. I mean I guess it's the same with Diana Prince id. I mean I see why people dislike.

Hmm, seems like some details relating to Gadot's experience with Whedon on Justice League have surfaced.
knowledgeable source says Gadot had multiple concerns with the revised version of the film, including "issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in"Wonder Woman". She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next."
The biggest clash, sources say, came when Whedon pushed Gadot to record lines she didn't like, threatened to harm Gadot's career and disparaged Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. While Fisher declines to discuss any of what transpired with Gadot, a witness on the production who later spoke to investigators says that after one clash, "Joss was bragging that he's had it out with Gal. He told her he's the writer and she's going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie."
A knowledgeable source says Gadot and Jenkins went to battle, culminating in a meeting with then-Warners chairman Kevin Tsujihara. Asked for comment, Gadot says in a statement: "I had my issues with [Whedon] and Warner Bros. handled it in a timely manner."

That first sentence doesnt make any sense. If anything she was less aggressive in Joss's version and more aggressive in her original takes.
That first sentence doesnt make any sense. If anything she was less aggressive in Joss's version and more aggressive in her original takes.
Yeah, I found that odd. I figured it would have been all of the perv shots that would have been her point of contention. Of course these are still just "sources" rather than directly from her so there's that also.
I suspect some of it might be just Whedon was more of an ass to work with apparently.
-
Maybe it was the scene where she slams Bruce for bringing up Steve Trevor?
-
Maybe Joss wanted her to curse.

That is one of the biggest problems that I have with the first animated solo Wonder Woman movie. The fact that Gail Simone co-wrote the movie while also writing the Wonder Woman comic series at the same time. And as usual she gets depowered by losing her ability to fly? What was the reason for this? She had been doing this since the Justice League cartoons and they somehow forget this ability for her first solo movie? Did Gail Simone argue for or against this depowering?
And now the Justice Society movie in which we have only seen super jumps in the clips! Is this a subtle attempt to let people know that in the future don't assume she can fly because we don't want to associate her with Superman? Except for a cheesy plot device in WW84 have we seen her fly. And only because she hadn't figured that out when she jumps really high that she can use the 'wind' to fly! Good thing she needed Steve Trevor for that because 70 years of her jumping high and it hadn't occurred to her until then to let 'loose'. What is her excuse (besides directors and the DCEU at large) why she didn't fly with her first appearance in BvS and then Justice League?
Good thing DC comics and the media in general have a solid understanding about her powers. One would think they couldn't screw something as simple as that!

It seems to be a running theme to go with the power set she had when she debuted if she's fighting in a World War.

She is not fighting in a war world in JL, bvs, WW 2009. Or in most agent of peace anbd sensational comics where she doesn't fly. Let's see if they ever do that to Superman in a movie. There you have another example of treatment not being equal.

I rewatched JL: Gods and Mortals

Overall I liked Bekka, it's annoying that (to no surprise) so much of her story is dedicated to her relationship with men (Orion and Steve Trevor) but it's always annoyed me that Superman gets to keep his Krypton background, Batman gets to keep his Earth background but Wonder Woman has to be totally revamped. I dont see why she couldn't have been an Amazon who was traded at birth to the New Gods or still tie into the Amazons someway to keep the WW feel besides the name and the man.

I guess Amazon's just aren't cool (said no-one, ever).
Yeah, IDK why either. They could have also given her an origin similar to Grail. I guess they wanted to give her red hair so badly they changed her entire origin.

Given Timm's rendition of Diana in the DCAU, I can't say it's surprising a version he gets a complete blank check on is one that has pretty much no tangible tie to pre-existing WW stuff.
Plus, he's a Kirby fan so no surprise also he wanted to play around with more Fourth World stuff.

Well, she was still connected to Steve Trevor and fought a Mecha version of Giganta...

Yeah definitely an interesting take on the character

I kinda want to see an army of robotic Wonder foes built by Dr. Cyber now.
-
Not Wonder Woman per say but the New Superwoman costume and general "origin" is kind of not it. I mean its definitely not as bad as Johnny's redesign but, my god is there no effort to it. She got a decent showing fighting Ultraman and stating she'd kill both him and Johnny before they'd finish her which was sweet. Kind wish it was a evil Wonder Woman rather then Donna, like why is it always not Diana but some other rando.

I've always imagined her as Diana's personal Ultron the way Ares is her personal Thanos.

Her costume has always been basic...I hate it as much as I like it. At least she was able to kick Ultramans butt and didn't end up getting beat.

Yeah, I have to wonder if it's some in-joke at DC at this point to make Earth-3 Superwoman be anyone but Diana; Mary Marvel, Lois, and now Donna.
I mean, they put out Injustice. Not like DC's afraid of poorly conceived and executed Evil WWs who are Diana. :p

I had the idea to give her a physical form made from the same metal as Diana's bracelets as that would make her a threat to Diana physically. Similar to the Dark Troopers from The Mandalorian.

That would be cool, like she has her cybernetic form made up a bunch rare powerful materials (similar to Dr. Doom's armor); Apokolips metals, Nth metal, Amazonium, etc... And I really liked her Bloodlines look, to bad nothing came of it after.
Diana's bracelets and by extension Nubia's, Cassie's, Donna's, and Yara's should be super unique and fully indestructible though. Like commissioned to Hephaestus by Athena and Aphrodite to be indestructible like her lasso. I don't really want another Year of the Villain scenario where some non important sword breaks the bracelets for shock value.

Ive always been of mind that all of the Amazons should have the same indestructible bracelets.

I think the Wonderfam should have uniquely indestructible bracelets, something that makes them as champions of the amazons stand out. While the other amazons wear bracelets made of Amazonium, something that is virtually indestructible but can be broken only through cosmic or reality warping entities.

Just reread Immortal Wonder Woman and man do I love the interaction between Spectre and Diana. Really hope this continues as a running trend, that and Diana being in JL: Dark.

Yeah it is weird that the Superman and Batman of that world are characters who already exist in their respective hero's mythology but their WW is someone from another mythology entirely. If I had to pick a character from WW's own history to take her place in that world, I would have gone with [spoil]Silver Swan[/spoil].
Who would you guys pick?

Circe, Artemis, Orianna or Nubia.

Yeah, the fact Diana was so lonely that she was crying when she found someone, (even when she though it was Brainiac) got to me. Her and Spectre had a nice talk. [spoil] Spectre is a little bit dead at the moment so we'll have to wait a while before they have a chat. :p [/spoil]
I hope she stays connected to JL: Dark in some extent at least. Going back and reading Perez's run kinda makes me realize she was doing JL: Dark type stuff for a while. Like fighting that creepy hecatonchire. Even Bats doesn't fight anything that disturbing.

From the villains, Gundra would've been perfect for a dark Wonder Woman. Also Devastation.

Yeah, low bar but JLD has a better track record atm than Justice League (post-Crisis at least) has with WW. :p
