Good choice!
I'm re-reading Deathstroke, I want Christopher Priest. He was really the first to make Circe sassy. He also wrote one of my favorite issues where Hippolyta thinks she's a housewife and Diana has to hit her with a car to snap her out of it. I could see him doing a lot with Cloonrad's status quo.
Priest whose made it clear in many interviews and as recently as his Superman story, he actively dislikes Wonder Woman?

Whenever someone says they dislike Wonder Woman my brain immediately goes "oh so you hate all women huh?"

Really? Where did he say that? For someone who doesn't like her, he writes her world well.
He can't hate all women because his Ravager is awesome.
Sometimes people who dislike the character end up writing better stuff for them than writers who are big fans of the same character.

Good for them but between having WW get brought to death's door by a stray bullet and then having Lois tell Diana she sucks, Priest isn't one of them.

He's not wrong and he didn't tell any lies. He doesn't "hate" her, he dislikes D.C.'s editorial department hamstringing him. Give him a Diana Prince espionage story where he can do whatever he wants and he'd eat that.
This is from a while back but Ewing on WW was wrong but everything else here seems to line up, so maybe the pitch of "adventurer/Indiana Jones" is correct.
My hunch is Snyder came up with all the initial pitches, but the teams might adjust them as needed.
People really need to stop acting like the classic swimsuit is some bold feminist statement.

The 18th Letter is all you need to know about the kind of Wonder Woman story Priest would write.
And it wouldn't be a good one, no matter how good a writer he is.

I'm not certain why Priest thinks the sexual assault of Wonder Woman is a "milestone" we need. I also don't understand why he thinks only Wonder Woman's character can tell such a story. I mean Superman/Maxima or Batman/Talia are right there. (I realize this was before Batman/Talia/Damian but that highlights my point).
I also find it interesting that Priest says that the editorial team refused to do anything interesting or controversial with Wonder Woman because of the merchandising deals they have connected to the character only for Infinite Crisis/OMAC Project/Maxwell Lord to happen a few years later.
Lastly, I think Priest's recollection of editorial illustrates that editorial isn't always wrong for the mandates they placed around Wonder Woman.
Whenever someone says they dislike Wonder Woman my brain immediately goes "oh so you hate all women huh?"
I mean, that's a bit ridiculous. Wonder Woman doesn't represent every female character. I love a certain version of Diana, but I can see mamh reasons why someone would think certain versions of her are boring, or even outright dislikeable. And maybe those are the only versions they have been in contact with.
Even if it's not, I can see with someone would love other female characters, but not love Diana.
Well goodness, we'll have to add Priest to the list of Wonder Woman writers we hate.
What about Al Ewing, is there anything wrong with him?

There's nothing on Ewing, he's pretty much beloved for the most part.

He came out as bisexual not too long ago which made many fans love him even more (sorry straighties, but being queer does earn you brownie points with other queer folk).

I honestly don't know how anyone can claim they never did anything controversial with Wonder Woman. That wasn't true even at the time Priest wrote that essay.
There's truth to the assertion that editors can and have gotten in the way of Wonder Woman's progress. Jimenez and Simone and Rucka (among others) can all back that up.
But Priest's gripe with editors seems a bit different. He thinks Wonder Woman needs to change to suit him.
He doesn't like Themyscira. He doesn't like that Diana comes from a strange land. He doesn't like that she's here to change the world. He doesn't like the tiara.
And there's something so condescending about his "I can't take a woman in a tiara talking big seriously" take. Way to miss one of the main points of the character, buddy.
I think it's notable he said he liked Dennis O'Neil's run...which infamously removed Diana's powers, costume, and separated her from Themyscira.
In other words, Priest would like Wonder Woman if she wasn't Wonder Woman.
And, yeah, of course that will probably receive pushback from the editors. Sometimes. Because Brian Azzarello apparently had free reign to change anything he wanted, and we all know how that worked out. And before him, J. Michael Straczynski effectively revamped her into a whole new character.
So yeah...hard pass to Christopher Priest.
As for Al Ewing...I'd give him a shot if he was interested.

The only consistent criticism is he struggles to write action sequences, they become more about feats and character posturing than well-choreographed fights.

Which is an issue that can be mollified depending on the artist.
Like I don't have an issue with the action in Immortal Hulk, but it becomes more of a noticeable issue in X-Men Red where the powerful Vulcan becomes a jobber and Storm is just uncreatively one-shotting everyone with a lightning blasts.

Yeah, obviously you don't have to be a super fan to write a character but if you're requirements of writing the character good are "change everything about her" than the problem is on you not the character.

An inspirational story :).
I think Al Ewing writing Wonder Woman would be interesting. As others have mentioned, his take on Storm was great, so I would hope that he could channel that same talent into Diana.
Personally id prefer Busiek, but Ewing would be pretty sweet.
Ewing does his homework and is big on researching minutia, taking the time to collect all the facts on a continuity and do some deep cuts. Someone like that would be a nice choice to adapt a new iteration of a continuity. Retooling disperate elements across decades into a singular sensible whole.

I don't get the "this is a love story" part regarding Superman. How does that figure into Trinity stories?
I don't get the "this is a love story" part regarding Superman. How does that figure into Trinity stories?
The Superman and Batman captions are literally from a Superman/Batman comic.
The joke here is writers always position them as opposites with Diana just sorta thrown in with little thought. Not to be taken that serious.
Real talk, the clever thing to do with this bit would be for Clark to think one thing, Bruce to think the opposite, and Diana--rather than think a third thing that "balances" them or something--thinks a complete non-sequitur.
Something like...
SM: "This is a love story."
BM: "This is a detective story."
WW: "I should get bagels when we're done here."
I don't get the "this is a love story" part regarding Superman. How does that figure into Trinity stories?
This is why taking things out of context is soooo frustrating. This is actually the introduction to the second issue of Kara Zor El's reappearance in post-crisis continuity. It's supposed to represent their different approaches to the mystery of Kara. For Clark, it's a love story because she appears to be his cousin. For Bruce, it's a detective story because he doesn't know if she really is who she says she is. It's not even about their worldviews, it's about their specific reactions to a mysterious Kryptonian appearing out of nowhere and claiming to be Clark's cousin.

Upcoming issue. Oh yeah because Dan Mora is also doing Absolute Power they've brought in new artists to fill in for Mora on World's Finest.
Looking up, thats definitely for the upcoming issue 30 which is going to feature Superman and Batman's first adventure with Wonder Woman. Ah I knew I recognized that art, its from Gleb Melnikov who's going to be drawing issue 30.
What are your favorite Wonder Woman runs, writers & artists and why?

Wow. Tough question. I think the first Rucka run is probably my favorite? Eyes of the Gorgon being one of my favorite WW stories. But it was Gail Simone's take on her that first really helped me fall in love with Diana -- Simone found a sense of humor in Diana that really softened here for me -- it was Simone that cracked that Diana facade for me -- and I just never saw Diana the same way again. I am very much enjoying the current run, and I'd be hard pressed to say there is a better artist for Wonder Woman than Daniel Sampere. Absolutely stunning.
That said, there were a lot of reasons the first Birds of Prey arc included Wonder Woman, and one of them is because I was dying to see Leo draw Diana in all her glory. He did not disappoint. <3
Hi Kelly,
I first became aware of you with your thoughts on portrayal of the Amazons in the New 52 during Azzarello's run and was wondering what are your thoughts on how the Amazons should be? It seems lot of people think of them as little more than man-haters.
Also has there been any WW stuff you've liked since the New 52?

Yeah, that was rough for me because up until that point, that was a favorite WW run for me.
I love the Amazons. I'm sure some of them hate men. And plenty of others do. We think of them as a monolith, but they're as varied as any other group I'd assume.
WW, like most books, is hit and miss for me, but there's a lot to love in recent years and mostly what I love is seeing Publishers/Creators/Readers taking her VERY SERIOUSLY. Which hasn't always felt like the way things are.
filler.....
Guess that might carry over into Absolute Wonder Woman (assuming Kelly is writing it).
