Eww...of all the WW images..
It's just an image, albeit a badly drawn one. He's also promoted the Perez run and Historia.

Ooh, I loved that old guy from Friday the 13th parts 1 and 2. "You're doomed. You're all doomed!"
Is anybody surprised that Gunn likes edgy stuff (on top of perhaps liking actual good WW stories as well)?
Is anybody surprised that Gunn likes edgy stuff (on top of perhaps liking actual good WW stories as well)?
I'm not surprised; however, considering he says "Happy" Wonder Woman Day, I thought he'd show a picture where she at least seems happy.
You have to think about it from a marketing perspective, you're the CEO of a studio, it's Wonder Woman Day and you want to sell her, while getting lots of likes and attention. Depicting her as the God of War in rotting armor with moldy horns, with huge blood stained cleavage and a giant bloody sword, may be the best way to please fanboys that don't actually read Wonder Woman.
A smiling picture by Perez, with birds and stars and Diana giving the cross-armed Amazon salute, doesn't have the same effect or reach the same audience.
Granted it is Gunn, he does have a bit of a twisted sense of humor.

Fanboys were definitely eating it up in the comments and i know they never read the story lol

The problem is, he might put the same thought process into her actual movie.

That may be bad for us but not necessarily Wonder Woman. The qualities that staunch WW fans enjoy aren't the same as those of the general public. The softer, gentler approach isn't what moves the masses and puts butts in seats, Wonder Woman 1984 proves that. If Batman can have the Adam West, Burton and Nolan versions and thrive, Wonder Woman can survive a bad take. Wonder Woman can bounce back from James Gunn like she did from Azzarello.
Everybody should read the comments under this. Here many of us find fault with the DCAU version of WW for reasons evident in the video, but a lot of people still love her and hold her in high regard.

Except the first Wonder Woman was a big success and that was also a softer, gentler approach to the character. WW1984 failed because it was a bad movie all around.
A lot of people grew up with the DCAU, so of course they're gonna overlook its flaws.

Thing is that the Wonder Woman in WW84 was not that different from the one in the first film. I mean, that first film's most famous line is arguably "only love can truly save the world," and Diana was compassionate and loving, things that her staunch, long-time fans cherish as two of her most emblematic qualities. The only difference was that in WW84 she did not use a sword, and in the first film, the action scenes were better, much better. And, like Psy-Lock mentions, WW84 was a bad film.
What I'm saying is that the first WW film proves that you can make a WW film that balances the badass, fierce warrior Diana with the compassionate, heroic, loving Diana that we all love in a package that is appealing to general audiences. No need to make her Xena-Meets-Ares-Meets-Red-Sonja to generate box office. Just my two cents...

No that one had the sword and was filmed grittier despite having the same director.
No that one had the sword and was filmed grittier despite having the same director.
The general public didn't love it because of the sword.

She didn't really use the sword much at least not against the humans which is something we have seen her do quite a bit in the comics since it become a "normal" weapon for her and as said people didn't love it for the sword. Also of course it is gritty it takes place in the battlefield and surrounding areas of the first World War
On a more interesting note, one of the people who liked Gunn's post is Karina MacAdams, an actress of Irish, Greek and Moroccan origin.

You'd be surprised, I got into an argument on youtube with someone who said 1984 failed because they changed the formula. I replied that 1984 was more like Wonder Woman and it failed because of the bad plot and shaky action, not because they took her sword away. They came back with she wasn't as cool in 84 and I said sarcastically "why because the sun came out and her colors got brighter?". In truth though there was a different sensibility between the two movies, starting with the cheesy cute opening scene at the mall.

I wouldn't consider that one comment as a representation of what the audience liked about the first movie.

I'm not surprised that people have different preferences, but there's no consensus on which version of WW the general audience prefers. Let's not forget that the Lynda Carter show is the definitive WW for many people to this day.

Just read these user reviews, they get worse as they go along.
It's almost like there should be some balance of sorts between Diana using a sword and shield and using the lasso and the swinging from one side of the pendulum to the other is bad.

The reviews point out much more complex problems with the story than "no swords and blood".
Gunn likes the dark, gritty stuff. That's no secret. So it's not surprising that that's what he posted on WW day. We'll have to wait and see what he cooks up for Paradise Lost.

OMG, I thought those were Photoshopped pics at first, but then I saw Jenner's Insta and not only is this real, but she shot video of her doing the twirl and turning into WW. And it's NOT a deepfake video either. Truly impressive what she (and her team) did in terms of production values and making the footage look like it is from a seventies TV show. And both Lynda Carter herself and the official DC Comics Wonder Woman account gave Jenner props for this!!!

I can think of three books that would have been better choices.
No fan of EO at all but at least it wasn't another New 52 reprinting.
Hope they throw in the other two given how underwhelming a read the first volume is.

Adding the other 3 would make for easy collecting. 3 books, each 9.99 makes for 30 dollars minimum which is a pretty good deal.
Unless it is actually collecting the entire series in one book. Its a bit unclear whether it means just Earth 1 volume or all 3 parts in one book.

Yeah, those EO books were pretty overpriced to begin with but WW especially given how lackluster the first volume was.

Odd that they'd use those weird EArth One books to bring in new readers, when those books are alternate versions of the mainline. But then it's DC so....

Seems like they are trying to sell it on Grant Morrison's name.
It's like they just realized that one of the books should feature Wonder Woman, and so they scrambled to find a story with the most high profile author.

There are no good options from Rebirth era.
There are no good options from Rebirth era.
Even if that were true, there are plenty of other options from other eras. Most of the options on that list aren't from the Rebirth era.
Sure, I'm just saying that if you want mainline then it would have to be something after Rebirth. Either way I think that they should have gone with Perez's run.
"Year One" would have been better than "Earth One". Same basic story without the big pitfalls. At least if we're talking about just the latter's first volume.
