His costume even looks more “armored” imo. Heh he’s even got a t-shirt and jeans period in his youth! The fact that they were talking with Morrison means some of it is no doubt deliberate. Honestly I’m ok with that? Like if Clark can’t get any of the good stuff that I liked from the New 52, might as well let someone make use of it.
Phillip confirmed again on the word balloon podcast he has no plans to de-age Jon and said that would be disrespectful to Bendis's work. For anyone who still thinks that may be a possibility..
He was also finally asked about Lois. It sounds like Lois won't play a important role in his run because of how grand his plans are. He does say we'll see the daily planet characters in backups. Not a fan of this..

And aging him up wasn't disrespectful to Tomasi's work?
I don’t really know how to. There’s a bunch of great moments but I don’t know if they will be great without all the build up Priest does. Put it this way: What Morrison did for Batman, Priest did for Deathstroke to me. He wrote Slade as the hyper competent badass he is, showed that he does have some sympathetic traits like Wolfman wanted, but ultimately he’s a dude who kills people for money. He’s not an “anti-hero” or even an “anti-villain”, he’s a villain plain and simple. It’s the best composite of all the Deathstroke takes I’ve seen, respects the last while moving forward. It’s a dark, cynical book:

But also a book that’s funny as hell:

Up to you if that’s your thing.
Father of the year. Jesus. lol
The salt in his voice about Nightwing. Hah. I'll give it a look sometime.
They could do worse for Jon than making him a bit like early T-Shirt Superman.
Thanks I’ll give this a listen to tomorrow. Once Teen Jon has been around longer than Kid Jon, which will cross the marker some time in 2021, that’s a wrap. Don’t expect him to ever get deaged again any time soon. Disappointing to hear about Lois but not unexpected. Seems like it will be the Clark & Jon show once again. He mention anything about the Rogues, if he’s going to use any of the classic ones or just make new Rogues?

Dude you have no f****** idea ;)
If you do read this run you gotta let me know what happens when you get to *that* page. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it.

That seems ludicrous to me. New 52 Superman was around for like five years and Lois and Clark was for only eight months, and they still killed the former off to replace with the latter after the disaster that was Truth.
(That being said, I don't expect him to be deaged until a creative team change.)
LOTS from out of Word Balloon, here's what we didn't already know:
Future State
* He wasn't on Superman for 5G, but the more general cosmic side, but the shifting plans funneled him here.
* House of El has a 'fall of Camelot' sort of vibe; he charted out future super-lineages for that book, including from other people Clark had families with after Lois passed away centuries down the line who only exist by implication because we see the great-great-grandchildren of those kids.
* Reaffirmed that Morrison consulted on Future State, they suggested something relating to the Fourth World that PKJ can't reveal yet. They were very complimentary to PKJ's ideas.
* We're gonna see some of Smallville in Worlds of War.
Superman/Action
* He's doing lots of worldbuilding stuff ala Last God.
* He's not deaging Jon, he's not putting the secret identity back in the bottle.
* We're not going to see much of Lois or the Daily Planet crew due to the cosmic scale the run operates on, the purpose of the backups is to highlight them because of that (and Sean Lewis won't be writing all of those).
* Asked about the contrast between Clark and Jon: Clark has seen and done it all and is really feeling his status as a veteran hero, especially with Jon suddenly being older. Jon's feeling the pressure of only being who he is, having the opportunities and responsibilities and accomplishments he does, because of his dad even if he doesn't resent him at all. He doesn't want to be Superman in spite of being the unambiguous heir to the throne, both out of desire to be his own man and because that'd be predicated on losing his dad. He's also a bit of a mess because he's been hopping around time and space throughout his entire life, from literally day one with Convergence and the old shock of learning about his parents and everything under Bendis; Johnson notes it's remarkable he's as put together as he is but he's feeling how he has no fixed sense of place or home.
The event with Mikel Janin on Action
* The event makes the universe "bigger and older" by expanding something PKJ considers underserved; it might affect other books but it's a Superman thing first and foremost.
* Asked about Power Girl he noted that while he doesn't have plans for her, she'd theoretically fit well in the event so it's not impossible she could show up.
Misc.
* The cover with The Sword of Superman was a big influence on PKJ's image of Superman as a kid, though he wasn't a huge fan of the story itself.
* He noted that with the "new multiverse setup" there's nothing stopping folks from writing a young Jon even while he's aged-up in what PKJ's writing (and that he fully expects someone will outright deage Jon someday, it just isn't gonna be him).
* He listed Waid and Morrison as his favorite Superman writers, with an additional mention of how much he likes Ron Marz's take
* Supergirl's going to have a bigger role going forward in the DCU, he's aware of plans for her in other books
* Krypto isn't in his stuff :(
* He isn't writing Conner, he figures he isn't in the line for the Superman title in the same way as Jon nor does he struggle with the same identity issues because he's so effortlessly himself.

Thing is, the version of Superman they brought back had 30 years of fandom under his belt. Kid Jon has 3 or so? They brought back the older version of Superman to try and capitalize on that fandom when they decided what they were doing at the time wasn't working like they wanted. And that past hsitory was kind of a security blanket. Jon doesn't have even a fraction of that potential weight behind him. Even the kid version is still incredibly recent in the scheme of things. Due to that, If this older version becomes the default, that's pretty much it because the motivation to change him back dwindles quickly as time goes on.

And Teen Jon has even less weight. No one seems to like him, and everyone always votes for a deage.
Besides, it's not as if he had no new content all that time; he keeps getting Super Sons specials in spite of the aging, he clearly has a fanbase that gets enough sales to justify sequels.
LOTS from out of Word Balloon, here's what we didn't already know:
thanks for doing this writeup, so much good bits in that interview.
The weight teen Jon has is that DC is all in on this next-gen Superman. Jon as he was/is doesn't move books, Superman does, and they're all in on the idea that Jon can be a "next Superman". I think they'll end up wrong on that, but all the same that's what they're obviously banking on so that trumps what the fans think here.
The biggest reason to de-age Jon is the Super-Sons. And de-aging Jon is not the only way to get them back, aging Damian up is also a valid way to even them out again.

That loses a lot of Super Sons younger appeal; and creates the same problem of not getting to see them age naturally.
Besides, Damian needs to become Robin again for it to work.
That all sounds pretty lame, might still give an issue a shot, but this guy isn't giving much to be exited about. Also I remember that Aquaman annual and thought it was terrible, just a crappy Moore ripoff. Didn't know it was this guy at the time though.
