Agreed, I donīt think if they introduce Genosha, they will go with itīs destruction either for this same reason unless is framed like Sokovia in which an outsider agent attacked the island. So I think suspense and letting the audience come up with the story is best.
I see it more like, thereīs not just one motivation for Lorna but multiple motivations, that lead to her from wanting to just have a normal life with Havok and go on with her education, to join the goverment sponsored X-factor, to Genosha, to the X-men and now Krakoa. I think her main motivation, even has always been doing something good but she had to see for herslef how dire the situation was for mutants with X-factor, X-men and Genosha to actively act in defending them and that makes a lot of sense with her story, because she started being a superhero later in her life and she had her own personal projects before it. I agree marvel just has to give Polaris her due and tell her story as itīs and stop trying to fix whatīs not broken and of course recognize the influence this series of experiences had on her, especially Genosha.

Overall, the book is a fun romp with various anthology stories worth picking up when its released in early December. But, this the Polaris thread so her story Depowered which was announced by Marvel.com by Carrie Harris gets the focus of the review.
Depowered a review
[spoil]
First, the story takes liberties with post M-Day canon. As we know in the comics post M-Day Lorna made a deal with Poccy to fix her powers. That doesn't come off in the story. So it takes off here at a moment post Blood of Poccy that doesn’t entirely fit cleanly into continuity. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s a reality of the story.
The author draws heavily on Brubaker’s Lorna with some of Bunn’s Lorna and even a bit of Duggan’s Lorna thrown in. If you were hoping for some Austen or Hickman, you will be disappointed.
Motivation and pathos: It’s in the name depowered. It plays on her post M-Day feelings though none related to the culprit of that and adds in some of PAD’s pathos dealing with her feelings about her manifesting her power as a baby. The bigger core motivation of Lorna in this story comes off daddy issues.
One would have thought Lorna would have some worrying thoughts about a Sentinel attack in a time vaguely a few months after the Genoshan genocide, but no. I do think at this point it may be verboten as pathos for use for Lorna by some level of TPTB so I am not going to hold that much against the author.
Who is Lorna is a fraught question in the book. She doesn’t want to be her father, but she doesn’t know who she is or wants to be. That is meaty on some level, but also problematic on another level. I would compare the problem to Bunn’s run where his Magneto was well developed and understandable in terms of his motivations to protect mutants, Lorna’s less so. The author did a bit better job than Bunn there.
Magneto is a teacher in this book as it says in the title summary and is very much in 80s Claremont posture in the story. This presents the typical Lorna can’t be more activist than dad problem in an era where two genocides in the comics produced in the comics the type of angry activist Lorna we have seen only faint echo’s of in runs like Hickman’s. That Lorna wasn't present in this story. Lorna and Magneto's relationship is handled here more akin to what was seen under Bunn's run not Hickman or Leah. The two did have a good scene together in the book. It was nice reading Lorna interact with some new characters.
Thanks to Netgalley and Aconyte books for the advance copy for early review.

She was divided between wanting to be the 'queen of mutants' or an X-Man before all of that. But, I would agree Lorna had a laundry list of evolving motivations from wanting to live the simple life, to being on X-Factor, to being an Acolyte then the right hand on Genosha, to being an X-Man again. I think her motivations sort of became a jumbled mess not long after M-Day and writers started to just move Lorna back to their preferred nostalgia era without putting in the effort to sell a motivation.
Lorna's biggest problem the past 15 years is her motivations have been weak and perhaps resultantly she has come with no real intensity at all for fighting for mutants or their rights. That was the one thing that worked more then any other for the character. Instead we get only bread crumbs of intensity from Lorna about anything.

Austen Lorna looked like she was going to fight for mutants as a priority but then M-Day and be send to space happened and the character was changed constantly to fit the plot without a motivation in particular. I agree with you this made her motives weak and she needs to get some of that back to push her character forward. imo, her experience on Genosha could be her own type of "With great power comes great responsibility and add towards my own people" moment for her but writers need to run with it and stick with this motivation on the different titles she appears, otherwise they will just keep making up different but weak motives for her.

There is much that can be done with the story about how it impacts her I agree. Marvel can still fish for new story ideas to motivate her that they can think about adapting for other mediums while not scrubbing the greatest story arc she had in the comics.
Inconsistent and all around awful motivation is the biggest hole in Lorna's character by far.

The good: Dauterman’s art, especially the coffee cup pose.
The bad: Well not necessarily bad on who wrote it, but is that reveling the end of Trial of Magneto in relation to the Axis retcon?
The ugly: Lorna’s stats from her 1992 card were terrible though that was semi understandable why they were given at the time given the crap she was coming out of in the 80s. These stats don’t have that excuse and are actually worse in the energy projection field then '92. If I were to do the stats I would raise intelligence by two and energy projection by two and the rest by one.

Average vs not average.
In terms of Lorna and her power I wouldn't mind down the road a broken powers year or two where she is forced to use a lot of skill and ruthlessness to make up for having very weak powers. The stats in question above are broken powers stats one grade below her old low and two grades below Magneto.

Another Dauterman card variant awesomeness...LOVE!!!

That Polaris cover by Dauterman is wonderful! Those magnetic effects are beautiful.
I try not to pay too much attention to the stats, but it is a bit odd that her energy projection is on the lower end.

So agree, maybe we can get more people interested in Lorna. One can hope.
