I think you are right. it was a freeze.
No, lightning to stop the heart; the coldsnap in the air represented her pulling in her grief. Like when she found out Logan had died back in her solo.
I think the last time I can recall her doing this was in her solo.

what about the cold air that exited from callisto's mouth after the punch though?
-
And since that time it’s been awhile since Storm ever done something like that again. Until today.
That sure wasn't 30 years ago! ;)
-
We been knew she was a goddess to but it's nice to see things sometimes. This is prob one of my fave issues of marauders and i hope with Storm potentially appearing less in this book the men get to step up in the second half of things, especially Bishop.
-
And since that time it’s been awhile since Storm ever done something like that again. Until today.
it was a cute showing. I personally would have preferred seeing storm stop her heart similar to how she shut down sinister the brain. I did like the traveling on lightning though. its the 3rd time she has done this.
-
That was her last[hot] breath exiting into the cold air.

I think the lightning was just used for effect but it was definitely frozen. When callisto opens her mouth her insides are so cold all that cold air comes out. It was a beautiful mercy kill, i doubt calliisto felt a thing. And how the fenral twins and masque look shook when that storm erupted as Storm held Callisto. Draaaaaaaaaaamaaaaaaa! Loved it.

this is what I thought after your initial observation. but I can see yogas point too. her heart didn't look frozen just like it was beung electrocuted.
other travel on lightning moments:

my fav moment from the issue. also the artt was gorgeous

See i don't think Storm would be that brutal if it was lightning she burned her from the inside and that smoke coming out should have been darker since it would have been actual smoke from her insides being cooked. And would Storm have need to even use charge that powerful that after a pause where they show her mouth open in the proceeding panel, the smoke then comes out. The pacing doesn't fit electrocuted heart to me.
-
When you breathe in cold weather, you can see your breath because it is hot and moist, so it essentially condenses(like a cloud) when it hits the cold air. If her breath was cold, and it was cold outside(it's snowing), you wouldn't see it because there wouldn't be a steep temperature[pressure] gradient.

thats fair enough. I think the icy breathe does support that if it wasn't solely a frozen attack it was mixture of the two. storm looked heartbroken after doing it. goes to show these deaths have meaning even if its temporary.

I thought storm made it snow after her passing and the weather changed in reaction to her emotion of sadness?

She just did it physically. Just as good
That sure wasn't 30 years ago! ;)
She sure hasn’t done it again since then until today! :)

That was rain. You can see it bouncing off Callisto body. Also wouldn't storm also have steam or something coming from her if it was suppose to be cold. Callisto has an open shirt on and wasn't shivering.

physically isn't just as good in my opinion. she doesn't need to touch someone to take out their insides.

ok looking at the art again it does appear storm was dropping the temperature because there was snow and rain when her icy breathe wss shown. I think both points are valid ones.
-
physically isn't just as good in my opinion. she doesn't need to touch someone to take out their insides.
Physically is just as good. Because it shows that not only can she kill you without touching you she can do it just by punching you. So now nobody can argue that if Storm were in physically combat with someone she wouldn’t be able to deal a deadly blow. Today showed that she can.
This is just another piece on how Versatile Storm is. That’s why this feat isn’t just “cute” it’s pretty great.

The punch just makes it look cooler. It's like a Mortal Kombat X-ray move.

it shows versatility yes but a character like storm when she has her powers don't need to nor does she have to resort to physical touch to take out an opponent. especially when she has her powers. she is not iron fist.

yea that is why I thought it was a nice moment. it was definitely a good showing.

That’s the point!
She isn’t Iron First but she can replicate a feat that Iron Fist or anyone his caliber can do. Stop your heart with a Punch.
The punch just makes it look cooler. It's like a Mortal Kombat X-ray move.
Exactly. Would have been even better if she ripped her heart out.....again

its actually more dangerous for a character with her lack of durability to resirt to such tactics. all it takes is one good punch or cut and she is dead. yes versatility is good but as she told callisto she does need blades. nor does she to fight in close quarters especially when she has her powers.
that said it was a nice moment. a good way to send her off.
-

It's not worth squabbling about. Interpret it how you will.
-
From the CBR pic...it looks like a lethal jolt of electricity to the heart. (Not to be mistaken with the minimal controlled bursts of lifesaving electricity she used on Nathan and Davis)
-
Defibrillators are used to both stop and restart hearts. It's essentially the same thing.
-
It's nice to see Storm's power used as a scalpel instead of a hammer for a change. I think the writers and sometimes the readers forget exactly how the versatile her power set is.
I would love Gambit and Storm to go on a few covert espionage missions.

It sure is. This is now my favorite H2H feat.
I’d love a Storm/Gambit Adventure.

I agree. I enjoyed the issue and thought it was well paced, had some good humorous parts, strong emotional beats with Storm & Callisto (loved Cal's comments on how she'd basically murder Fenris to the point worthy of criminal punishment haha), much needed progress for the HFTC story line driving the title, and a nice send off for Storm. Plus the Lolli art was gorgeous throughout the issue and I liked Duggan's grasp on the characterization and roles for the cast in this issue. I loved the Storm vs Cal fight ,and the creative use of her powers in CQC. A pinpoint electric punch to stop a heart is pretty bad ass (and humane). 8.75/10 for me.
As an aside I've enjoyed Duggan's & Vita's recognition of Storm's martial combat skills over the course of Storm's time in the series run. The list of mutants who can skillfully defend themselves in H2H is quite small (probably a couple dozen vs an island of thousands), and this is an important part of Ororo's character (not just her being skilled but the part of her that embraces a warrior's code) that is all too often forgotten.
Also think we are overdue of a Gambit + Storm team-up. Would love to see Chuck Kim & Bachalo have another run with them a la Curse of the Mutants. Covert espionage story for 2 master thieves with great chemistry and complimentary powers and skills - all great ingredients for an epic story.

I assume she was fighting in close combat out of respect for her and Callisto history.
-
Storm amping her strikes with wind show she can easily increase her physicals. I don't know why Marvel won't allow it.

Thats fair and a good observation LAM!
Storm amping her strikes with wind show she can easily increase her physicals. I don't know why Marvel won't allow it.
that would be nice. how would she do that exactly? she definitely need more under arsenal to assist in her durability. at this point I honestly would settle for her to use wind shields to deflect attacks from hurting her.
-
Storm had to fight Callisto hand to hand. The point of the Crucible is that the depowered mutant has to earn their death; its a test to prove themselves. Being depowered already puts said mutant at a disadvantage so they have to make it a bit more fair so it doesnt end in 5 seconds. If Storm just used her powers at the start, then Callisto would have gotten what she wanted without earning it. I actually think Storm cheated a bit by charging her punch to take Callisto out but I think she did that bc of their history and to not drag out the process

I was going to say if its supposed to be h2h why she use her powers lol. I would say your thoughts on her cheating is accurate. she definitely used her powers but maybe she thought that would be the most humane way to end her life. storms response to her dying was really moving to me. one of the better moments of the issue.

Storm prefered a painless way to do it.

With moves like that, it’s time to bring back X-Men vs Street Fighter.

I'm sure that was a lot less painful than the first time they battled:
