Ororo controls all the natural forces and energies that exist. If she can create an "atmosphere" in the vacuum of space to attack Silver Surfer that shouldn't be a surprise:

Silver Surfer. Storm showing her atomic control and flight on solar winds
Wait... Ororo is gonna create an atmosphere for a planetary body that currently exists in a vacuum?
Mars currently (in real life) has an atmosphere. It is made up of 95% CO2, 4% others, and 1% oxygen. It also has water vapor that exists in it's atmosphere and ice frozen under the crust.
Now if you look at Mars in the MCU, it already has a section that has been terraformed. So it's already happened on a smaller scale. So now what we're talking about is some omega level awesomeness. Storm is the catalyst, LITERALLY as she uses her abilities to use electrolysis to convert the CO2 into O2 and C. Bobby uses his abilities to draw more of the frozen water to the surface so storm can then do the same process to the H20 and create hydrogen and oxygen. From there she can uses her goddess abilities to transform the atmosphere of the planet to one that is habitable for humans. Jean is there to create a tk shield initially for Ororo and Bobby to do their work, and expands it over time. Magneto is there to change the planets magnetic alignment.
But NONE OF THIS HAPPENS WITH OUT STORM!

It's a huge misnomer that Mars doesn't have an atmosphere. And knowing that Storm can analyze the composition of the environment is key. She will immediately be able to sense the numbers, communicate with Bobby via Jean on what he needs to do with his abilities in order for her to get everything going.
And this is a great scene to help those nay-sayers see what Storm can already do and how she can analyze things just by being in the atmosphere.

excellent point. just because mars is uninhabitable doesn't mean an atmosphere does not exist. i will love to see her ability to connect to a planet help in assisting the others in terraforming the planet. that would be really awesome to see.
and agreed to the last point. I would hope people are not questioning what she could do in the regard but we being at this for way too long to know that won't happen lol.

that would be an interesting duo. she would need to be able to find a way to breathe in space though. through her powers do you think it can be utilized to assist her in surviving in space?

All — LOVE the conversation. Refreshing read these past few pages. And I agree with all on the potential for awesome moments from all 4 of these omegas. Storm’s powers are so essential here. Her abilites have some overlap with Magneto & Iceman but I think there are key differences where their core abilities really make them the best fit for certain aspects of terraforming (no one os stronger in EM control than Magneto or Ice/Cryo manipulation than Bobby). But despite this overlap the creation of a balanced atmosphere that is self sustaining and life supportng is pretty rare & quite unique to Storm here.
Plus with Jean’s omega TP, especially on the need to understand the importance of a natural balanced and self sustaining ecosystem that could be as delicate as earth’s, sharing Storm’s perceptions of how to keep things “just right” could be key. I don’t think Bobby or Erik would have that type of comnection to the planet to know that what their doing is too little, toouchor just right. If they are going this direction with the story this could be such an amazing read.

Perhaps she can make herself a personal atmosphere bubble to breathe in space. I know it's probably not accurate, but comics operate on pseudoscience, so she could make it work.
Mars is significantly smaller than the earth. It's essentially half as big volumetrically and only 1/10th as massive. Storm has many planetary feats in her canon on earth. Martian feats would be considerably easier in comparison, simply in terms of scale/mass. Never mind the fact that Storm has manipulated the energy of MILLIONS of stars and planets simultaneously, and reconstructed an entire dimension that was falling apart. It's time for Hickman et al to flex Storm's Omega muscles, and this would be a great start! I am a little nervous Duggan is writing this issue, though. He's not been my favorite of the lineup.

Mars is slightly smaller than the Earth.
Also, Mars has no atmosphere. The atmosphere, having been stripped away for thousands of years by the solar wind. The solar wind, which of course carries the charged solar particles of the sun will disapate the atmosphere. Part of (if not all of) the reason the atmosphere is gone though, is because the core is now cold. The core is what generates a magnetic shield and keeps the ozone intact as well as the atmosphere in place. The magnetic shield is what enables a planet like Earth, to generate a force that disperses by repelling most of the solar wind. When the core starts to cool, the ozone weakens and dies out. Then the atmosphere becomes thin until gone.
Jean should really be able to TK-shape that barren red earth ino something great! I cannot wait!

Mars is not larger than earth that is incorrect. Also storm essence connected to vast amounts of energy across the cosmos in Black Panther and though that feat tired her she was fine. also she has several global feats on her own so I don't think its a stretch to claim she could do that feat on her own. there are enough receipts to support it.

Yep, my bad guys. I was just mixing up the planets after Mars which grow only larger and bigger with each planet and then after Jupiter they become smaller. My bad. I really thought that Mars is bigger than Earth, but I admit that I was wrong.
However, I still think that Storm will need the help of others to terraform a planet even if it is smaller than earth. There is just way too many systems in check for a planet to properly work and each of the team members has key abilities that will help the things which Storm may lack.

That is actually a pretty good assumption, I made my own, a few pages back.
I placed Magneto for the Planet Core and the Magnetic Field since Mars core is metallic as far as we are aware. And it is not molten like the Earth one.
I placed Jean on telepathic support since it was shown a few times in the past that Telepaths can increase the productivity of mutants with their powers and to keep a clean head and help with the strain.
Iceman, I put on the water and the northern and southern poll.
And finally, Storm on the ecological, weather pattern and fauna task.
But yours are much more accurate.

Storm, if we go by her show of powers so far, can generate oxygen in the open vacuum of space. Since she controls electrolysis and in these days, the modern stations use electrolysis to convert Space's elements into Oxygen, so yeah Storm doesn't need anyone's gift like Silver Surfer or someone else, she can accomplish that on her own. The only thing which worries me if she will be able to travel at the speed of light when she is in open space. Now, this is something which I would like to see about her.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention and sound. I am not sure how she will deal with the absolute silence in space, but hey I might be wrong it is not like other characters didn't talk in open space.

No problem.
And thats fine we can agree to disagree but based upon her galatic core feat (where she manipulated the energies of millions of planets), her Trion feat (where she healed an entire dimension), her galatic wakandan empire feat (where she connected with various energies across the cosmos to take out a large fleet of ships), and her numerous planetary feats (two of which from her solo) i think a case could be made she could terraform on her own. As I mentioned im sure this won't happen as its a team book but she has enough on her resume to support being able to do so without the other omegas.

well I just don't see any value of offering any criticisms of the book at this point. she had some ok moments but overall I didn't care for her characterization. especially with the XoS. its funny Vita had Jean talk about Ororo's empathy but the same writer had her showing zero empathy when it came to stealing that sword from Wakanda. Its just not a good luck and seeing that she will be leaving the marauders soon asking about such things just seem irrelevant at this point. But that is just me if you and others want to engage I say have fun so as long as everyone is respectful (^_^)

thats awesome that you read every post I think windrider was saying essentially the same thing. the fact this new Hickman era is giving us content to discuss I think is very nice because goddess knows we need to see a better use of her character.
in regards to perception, empathy is not something that is one-sided. her cause was solely focused on that of krakoa, with her assumption saving krakoa would ultimately save the world and hence wakanda. that said how the events played out the swords were not necessary and the xmen were able to teleport to otherworld and defeat annihilation and her forces anyway. a true empathetic act would have seen her execute what she did in wakanda quiet differently because she had a "screw you" attitude towards them.)

As someone who is fortunately and very unfortunately very empathic in person and sensitive to energy i can say from my perspective that isn't always the case. When it is a situation of dire need and all sides are desperate or seemingly so, sometimes you can get a coldness that helps you rationalize who needs help first. right or wrong, i'm just saying i can see how you can see two situations and feel more pulled to one than the other empathically. And i obviously read the story different because i didn't feel a screw you attitude in that if she had just stole it first i would completely agree but she rationalized things based on what she was feeling and i just happened to fall on her side even if i take all connections out of it. For me i think Storm made the right choice and a fair choice given the obligations she chose to take on.
As they say, sometimes it's better to ask for an apology or the rest i can't remember.

She basically said screw your culture, screw your protocols I need this sword and you will be better for in the end. I know you believe her to have made the right choice but looking at how the actual story played and to the end of XoS, and seeing that Tchalla showed up the same night she was there, what harm would it have been for her to wait until morning before going on her 007 raid of their relic? That sword did absolutely nothing for and it strained a relationship between an ally, who so happens to be one of the most powerful nations in the MU.

all in all the story was actually pretty ridiculous. for all storm has done for wakanda I would imagine they would just give her the sword and if they didn't I think an in character storm would have just waited at least a day before looking to more extreme measures.

Though one couldd say she is their goddess now so that trumps all. lol. But either way, we are now living in the time of Storm. I'm almost scared to say how excited i am for the potential of whats to come because i never expected much but i've liked this run so much i'm starting to garner expectations. Not like specific ones but for the same feeling of excitement they have been making me feel. I can't remember the last time i didn't regret spending this much money on something just because of how i think.
You think Bast would have let Shuri question her like that?

thats the biggest issue with the story. I know we have to accept how it was told because it was canon but do you really expect the wakandan royal family to deny her something like this considering how many times she has came to their aid to fight alongside them to defeat threats to their nation? This story was made up solely to remove her from Wakanda which I dont think was necessary. As I mentioned, Wolverine can have ties to all aspects of the MU outside the xmen without issue but the one she has needs to be sullied so that she can show she is independent?
Nevertheless, Coates run now running in parallel just reiterates how absurd that issue was and hopefully more isn't unnecessarily done to destroy that tie. Storm needs to be a big player in the MU and these connections should be built upon each other and not stripped away. Nevertheless, if the endgame is for her to have her little corner of the MU that revolves around her I would be all for this but I'm not encouraged this is the direction the xoffices are going in honestly.
In what regard? What did Shuri say to Bast?

Children of the Atom was predictably mediocre but I liked the Storm and Jean interaction. They’re one of the X-Men’s best friendships and in an era that I’ve found somewhat sterile in terms of characterization, it’s nice to see Vita making time to remind us how close these women are. Other writers are doing their part to inject some personality into the characters they’re working with.
Also put me in the “terraforming Mars/new mutant stronghold” camp. Omegas were on that cover for Planet-Size X-Men for a reason and with their gifts it makes sense. But this is Hickman so it’s got to be more than just turning a desert into a garden. Excited to see where that takes Storm because we still got that lingering favor owed by the Shi’ar Empire plus that cosmic heart thing.

Can we please stop commenting on something which is long past? This entire issue with Storm and T'Challa, and her stealing the sword was so OOC for both sides that for me, it was just a small budge along the long path. She repaired those relationships already. And I am quite certain that Marvel Editorial has taken a note to not do something so stupid again. Even though, I am quite certain we will see something like that happening in the future. For now, let's concentrate on Storm, Magneto, Jean and Iceman terraforming a planet. That was a good and positive topic.

I personally liked CotA because they point out Storm's empathy in a much more evident way than Duggan did or Coates for that matter. I am looking forward to seeing what this will bring to the table when she meets them next month. And then hopefully, we will get back to Storm's ascension and terraforming a planet with the other Omegas. As someone mentioned way back or was it in another threat... all Omegas are like Gods.
