This was a fun issue, a little dry with the dialogue and horrendous art but the moments with Storm were nice and I like Xandra’s character. Looking forward to the implications for Ororo and what becomes of the Shi’ar. Her destiny lies in the cosmos from everything we’ve seen from Hickman and I think she’ll go to some insane places. I find it interesting that heavy gravity worlds were mentioned and we know that the Shi’ar are to my knowledge fighting those black hole computer intelligences, maybe those are connected?

I would love to have seen Jean and the Storm make a combo. But the storm was fantastic
my biggest complaint with the art was that it was hard to tell what was going on during the action sequences. it was really jumbled together.
feats like the one today makes me miss claremontian style writing. it my be unclear exactly what she did but what is clear is she blocked the attack with her powers. also not clear is how strong urr but he was able to knock out Scott with one hit.
also one other complaint is enough with lightning lass lol
Definitely would have benefited from a few Claremontian captions/though bubbles. I don't know if the strength of all Stygians is comparable, but the Imperial Guardsman Quasar/Neutron was Stygian and had class 100 strength(to be fair, he was probably the best of his race to be on the Guard). I think they are made of black holes, hence the 'star field' pattern, which they can channel into strength or energy blasts. Scott's lucky he didn't lose his head!

and thanks for that explanation I didn't really understand much about the stygians. that makes the showing even more impressive and yes he was lucky to have his head still attached.

oh yes that works thank you!

Any guesses as to why Storm wants to go to space? Does it have anything to do with the time she spent helping the Intergalactic Wakandan empire?
-
I'd love to see more of the space whales(Acanti) if Storm really spends more time in space. There was a deep connection there(and one of her greatest feats), barely explored since.

Yeah ororo is officialy out of the x-men gold/extraordinary/WaTXM/Bendis/whatever that one time ben grimm pulled her hair hole, we are out of the woods people

I don't know what is happening with this week's art, but it was terrible, the only good art with these week books was Excalibur and Wolverine...
Also, I would like all of you to concentrate on the way Storm stops [spoil]that hammer, do you see how the lightning spreads around her like a dome, I believe this is pure energy magnetic shield, or EM[/spoil] as you call it @butterflykyss
On the other hand, the art was absolutely terrible for me personally, especially in the last 10 or so pages. The first ones were good, but then it was like we jumped in an entirely different realm (you know like the Spideys from the multiverse and their realms). I hope they don't keep up with this art, and it doesn't suit Ororo. However, I have to admit that I absolutely loved how they drew her body, it shows that she is still a tall and very fit woman, usually over the Marauders she was drawn as slim, but in today's X-men she was drawn the way she is explained on the marvel database with her Athletic body.

I miss the thought bubbles that explains what exactly was happening on the panels. looking now it's very necessary when characters like Storm appears in action

uhm i actually think it is odd from a canonical point that she would want to go to space considering her connection to the planet. that said I dont believe it will tie back to her ties to bp. outside of what yoga mentioned maybe the galactic core for someone reason is calling out to her.

excalibur art has been exceptional over the entirety of its run. I know this issue was supposed to callback to the 90s look but I don't remember the art then looking so bad as it was drawn in some parts today.
and yes let's concentrate on this. that was truly an epic feat. we've seen pressure domes and we've seen her create em fields but never defensively. it was a great showing.

Storm making shields now? First a lightning punch now EM shields??? The vs threads aren't ready.

I just hope she does it more consistently.

right! im just loving writers are being more creative in what she can do with her abilities.

me too. frankly she should have been using her powers defensively in this manner.

Will comment more on this later but agreed. I think it would be great to see her powers written with defensive applications consistently. In battles, however, I will day we have a decent to good amount of examples to support that she does do this (redirecting bullets, redirecting explosion, redirecting Sienna Blaze, Countering cerebro beams with wind, redirecting Cyclops and blocking his blast with lightning, and there is more).

100% agreed to all of this. when taking all of these showings into consideration it is very hard to argue she is a glass cannon. will be looking forward to your comments later!!!

I think what really stands out to me on the block is looking at yoga post of strength and the fact that it must have been split second since he was aiming for Xandra and Storm put her fist up, that must have been some shied to not feel any blow back if you think about her not having superstrength meaning she absorbed or blocked the entirety of the blow and it's aftermath. I also liked the scene with the wind around them when they were descending so for me it made sense artistically to not have jean using her tk from a visual standpoint i think the pink would have been too much in the scene.
Looking forward to what comes next. I can't imagine what favor Storm would call in.

I've often wondered how many times a character has to do something to be considered valid ability.

So Storm in Space. Yea or nay?
It looks like this is what her 'big year' is about, assuming Children of the Atom never materializes. I've never found the cosmic side of Marvel very interesting, so being in space feels like a downgrade for Storm.
-
I doubt her just going to space is the big plan.
Wasn't she holding some cosmic elemental object in the teaser pic of RoX

I dont too much care for space/cosmic stories either though when she is in space she is supposed to be more powerful:

Space stories never interest me either, especially in regards to X-characters. It's a genre that I just don't think meshes well with them. Space stuff is more suited for the FF OR Avengers. Still, it's definitely something that appears fresh and new for Storm(meaning the concept for her isn't a retread and tired) so I am interested in where it goes and what it means for Storm if she is indeed going in a cosmic direction.

Storm being more powerful in space makes no sense with the whole 'Earth weather goddess' thing, but that's not much of complaint honestly.
They should have had Storm in that costume!
that would have been cute.
-
Storm being more powerful in space makes no sense with the whole 'Earth weather goddess' thing, but that's not much of complaint honestly.
Storm's weather powers are just a by product of her ability to sense the energies that make up an environment. I think a lot of people aren't aware that that is what her true mutation is, and it's not necessarily weather manipulation per se. That is just the form it takes when she is on Earth. Some people don't like that explanation though and it has been inconsistent across creative teams, but if one accepts that premise, it makes sense that she would be more powerful in space given the energies out there.
-
IMO what makes Storm more powerful in space is the fact that she has more direct access to cosmic energies and also her range is greater compared to when she is on Earth.
-

It has been long established that she can also controll space weather, because solar winds and all that. Writers using semantics to expand or change super powers isn't new after all.

great explanation. this is exactly why she was able to execute her infamous galatic core feat!

1000% correct which would also make her status as an Omega mutant weather manipulator make more sense. If Storm is in fact an energy manipulator whose power is expressed most naturally through weather manipulation, then she definitely has unlimited potential as once she learns to manipulate the energy form she will wrestle control of it (ie Trion). This could allow her to create storms of not only natural energy, but also potentially magical, and mystical energies as well. She just has to learn to tune herself with the patterns that they are created with. This could also be a segway to how she unlocks her magical potential as well as the key to her goddess mode lol.

Ok its end of the day and want to recount her moments from the issue today's xmen issue:
-the cover was very appropriate. it had her on it and it featured her greatly
-she uses her wind to carry herself, cyclops, Jean, and smasher. before Hickman giant size storm issue we haven't really seen her do this like since Claremont lol
-her and cyclops do a combo attack with their lightning-opto blast. they weren't sure which of their powers took out the assailant
-storm uses her em field to block urr [who appears to be pretty strong]from killing xandra
-storm one shots urr with lightning
it wasnt a character driven issue but this issue is a continuing of the xwriters showing how formidable she truly can be and its just January!!
-
Loved Storm in this issue. The dialogue, the battle, everything. She offers compassion to the villain and gives him and opportunity to surrender. When he rejects it, she gets the one liner in before finishing him off. Classic.

yes!!! her showing compassion but also not being afraid to cut a person down when necessary is how I love for her to be characterized. the issue was a wonderful issue for her indeed.
