It's not her fault Xavier decided to rip her away from her birthright to play hero. In my head canon she would have sent him all the way back to New York on a Jetstream. #bai
yassssss! I literally just had a debate with someone who tried to argue storm was always a goddess in the xbooks. no honey they made an effort to show that she wasn't.
the power of coates!
How many books, writers, scans, is it going to take to finally get people convinced? Is Gaea herself going to need to bow down before people GET. IT. ?
I don't know why many people didn't notice this more. Storm killed 2 birds with one stone! She was black and a woman with the added bonus that her white hair and usual lightning flare made her almost impossible to miss in terms of marketing. Yet, she never did anything at all.
Well...It's not as though...
1: The X-Offices and Marvel, weren't under really poor management throughout the 90s-00's...Storm wasn't the only character they neglected.
2: Storm isn't the be-all and end-all of the X-Men/X-Offices (despite what Claremont thinks). They do have ALL the other mutants to write.
3: Other writers...Whedon, Fraction, etc had/have their pet characters who they preferred to write. No biggie. It happens.
4: Some writers just don't care about Storm...the way some don't care about Jean, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Lorna or any mutant not in their story.
So Storm wasn't the "face" of Mutants after Claremont left...So what...?
Did her fans all stop reading the X-Men? No.
Did sales suddenly decline to cancellation levels? Not immediately and for different reasons.
Did the quality of the writing deteriorate? Yes. But that's entirely on the writers not the characters.
Fact is, despite her absence in the X-books while she was off being Queen of Wakanda...those eras (Fracktion, Whedon, Morisson) are beloved and lauded.

I think they were trying to invalidate what coates had done by mentioning she was always a goddess. they were making the case being in BP didn't help the character.

What are you even going on about? I was agreeing with Storm being a token for the X-books.

I guess if that helps them sleep better at night?
I guess if that helps them sleep better at night?
exactly they are reaching because they don't like the pairing. but its silly to blame hudljn for her decline in the xbooks. that resided with the xoffices
What are you even going on about? I was agreeing with Storm being a token for the X-books.
I was just pointing out that the tokenism theory is only a very small part of the issue.
I didn't miss Storm in the X-books because I was reading her in Black Panther...and if nothing else no one can say Hudlin treated her as a token character. Every story may not have revolved around her but to expect that was foolish because it's not her book.

Her decline in the X-Franchise to me, started with Lobdell. Hudlin tried to lift her out of the mediocrity of the X-Universe (with hit or miss stories).

yes!!!!!!!!!!!! honey you are absolutely correct. the shift from Claremont to Lobdell was glaringly obvious. why do some storm fans not see this and try to pin it on hudlin?

This is when I knew Lobdell was about to start some bullshit and move Storm a back-up singer.

Exactatiously.
Post Claremont...the X-Offices just were not interested in her, regardless of how "important" Claremont had made her up until his departure.

Sooo disappointing but ultimately refreshing to see how far we have come and how far we are going under Ewing. The Queen Reings.

Uncanny X-Men 342.
I felt something was up when AoA came out and Storm was just a shade of her Claremont self.

thats interesting. I felt this was the moment for me was when I knew there was bs on the way and it was Claremont who wrote it. the reboot was not good for her:

yup the xoffices didn't care about her once Claremont was done. that is fine but let's not try to make it seem like it was Hudlin's fault she was written poorly or not at all in the xbooks.
I was loving Claremont's X-Treme/XSE Storm before Hudlin stole her for BP....

hudlin can't steal something he didn't own. and I will take goddess of marvel storm over a defunct police/detective storm any day of the week:

Funny, I seem to recall Hudlin's Storm not being allowed to stop Doom because she might embarrass T'Challa by showing him up. It's Claremont's X-Men Storm that gets the work done[and now Ewing's].

Me too. But whatev's that didn't happen apparently. I noticed he didn't directly address the situation if Butterfly is saying the question was in regard to less Storm in the x-line because of the deal he had. Because personally i can think of a Storm story going on at that very time when she was the center of it, Xtreme. And claremont had more plans. So nothing he said really addressed if the x-books were limited in what they could do when he had the rights to Storm in BP after the deal he made.

I also remember this but hey, it's okay because it was black love. Still trying to figure that out. My dad liked my mom being great. these are the very reasons i could not stand Hudlin storm. I remember stepford Storm being lobbied around quite a bit at the time.
and to be fair, for me those were the things i gave Coates credit for addressing and fixing until he had Storm basically call tchalla a T.H.O.T.

yes Coates did remedy a lot especially as it relates to their interaction. I must admit it wasn't a good look but his ego was hurt. I'm glad he was able to apologize for his fault and move on

Ah, I didn't ignore it, I even showed it to a friend of mine here, you're a smart person with a good point about Storm true powers.
If at any point your powers have influenced or disrupted black holes or other astronomical events, perhaps those feats are great achievements with gravity.

I do not believe she was. if she was it wasn't mentioned in that story.

Lol had that moment where the narrator says that Jean's shield barely withstands the Powers of the Storm
I wonder if Storm left Krakoa’s council. Seems as regent of Mars and of Sol she would be way too busy to regularly meet on Krakoa.
Lol had that moment where the narrator says that Jean's shield barely withstands the Powers of the Storm
Well, to be honest, TK can do just as much it really depends on how calm and quiet your mind is and how powerful your will is to withstand the pain. A lot of people don't understand how TK or TP work simply because they never did research. They just think something among the lines of... she just thinks about it and happens but actually, there is a lot more behind a TK blast, shield, etc. and of course TP connection. If your mind is not calm or strong enough to handle the pressure and the pain, then it can burst out... literally because it was overwhelmed. And somehow, I cannot see TK stopping a full-blown storm, we are talking about a lot of pain and pressure on her it is simply impossible.
Everyone ignored my post with Storm working with and having minor manipulation of gravity lmaoooo
I didn't I actually enjoyed your post.... It makes sense because she has absolute dominion over all forces and energies that govern weather and gravity literally holds the whole thing down. If she can control the magnetic fields that shield the atmosphere then she definitely can manipulate the gravity that holds it. But here is the real question and why I was like if Ewing gave us a data page I will be very happy so we know just how deep her power goes. Deductions are fun but ultimately if not supported by cannon are just a binding exercise. But then again the mystery has been intriguing

To be able to stop a storm a telekinetic must be able to stop the full power of thousands of nuclear bombs at once! Casually repeatedly because that's the energy of a storm per hour. Unless you are a cosmic entity or a god tier telekinetic you have no hope in hell of survival if storm actually tries against you. That's why when Betsy had amped TK sooo strong that Rachel with the pheonix echo couldn't match storm could easily shut her down. Why because the energy and forces storm controls on average are even A problem for god tier telepaths now imagine if she is angry or she actually unleashes.

Really? To me this was an okay feat. She lifted the entire plane into space with her winds, once in space if she used solar winds she probably would have destroyed the plane so it made sense she reached her limit on natural wind to assist the launch.

yes. remember the original showing with her doing the solar winds against the sentinel was essentially retconned in classic xmen. allegedly this was done to correct an error with the Phoenix story because if she could control solar winds she could have saved the team from the radiation that ultimately resulted in the Phoenix saga. the scan above reinforcing this by saying she reached her limit. as she told cyclops many moons ago she has always been in full control of her powers so she should be able to control the solar winds in a manner that wouldn't affect the ship, just as she was able to fly on them in space without harming her space suit.
