Ugh :(! They are just killing me with the wait. And the lack of solid news. I’m still excited and invested because these covers, gala preview and the lead up to this new role has been good. BUT....I’m dying on the vine here...
I get you. for me I thought it was impressive considering in canon how powerful adversary is and because it was a one shot. yes I'm sad about that too but honestly we shouldn't be looking to get out storm fix from black panther. its shameful storm fans were ever put in that situation to begin with.

Honestly Butters, yall shouldnt have to feel that way in terms of getting your Ro fix. I as a BP fan welcome her appearance in the book i mean at this point i expect her to show up but yeah she does need a book of her own but also the problem is who would be willing to write it and actually give her character a chance and see her character as worth the hassle. It's a waste and i know better than to think the X side of the Marvel HQ would pull the trigger, ive been saying this since i showed up though to not get yall hopes up because these cats know how to get your engine running but I'm on E ovah here. Point being, then only thing you can do is hope for a potential solo series but hope is pretty pointless.

You are absolutely right. don't get me wrong I love bp and ororo together I really do but I'm just exhausted with the criticism the man receives from some storm fans and im thankful he can no longer be used as a scapegoat for what the xoffices are not doing with the character. we know what Coates has done for her and considering this i think he handled her exceptionally but the fact that some fans still cling to what he was doing in BP is a strong indication of what is lacking in the xbooks. we are what 2 years into the hickman era and I still don't know what direction they are going with this character. nevertheless, you are right that having hope is pointless when it concerns the xoffice. I do like the idea that she could be written by Ewing but honestly that still doesn't feel big enough for me and I'm tired of continually doing the wait and see thingy storm fans are constantly doing so count me as spent and over it. I won't change until they do a bit more showing than telling.

What is sad is that aside some black writer's no marvel wryer seems to want to take on storm in a way that honours who she is. It feels like until the next claremont comes we won't get this done ad we want. Her last solo though it had some powerful charachter moments it also had some very foolish ones. I mean if only the BP writers will even acknowledge her due then why fight them. They are doing what the xoffice won't do.... Whilst we get wolverine's 50th solo for some strange reason.

it is very sad. I personally feel ororo is one of those characters the xoffice like around for her name/nostalgic/diversity purposes but beyond that there is no real push to center stories around her. even now, as it has been since the 90s, the stories center around the Xavier/Magneto and/or summers/grey clan. Wolverine fits nicely there if course because of the whole redhead fascination. so i don't know why we know very little more about storm her family outside the xmen, etc. since her marriage ended. I'm certain this could be said of some of the other main xmen characters. all we see is that she is obsessed with beung a mutant and xmen. she doesn't care to learn about her maternal/paternal family (past or present), she certainly doesn't care about her African American roots and/culture. No its all about being a mutant. Its beyond old and writing her as such makes her so one-dimensional. What fkrge told her so many years ago still ring true for how she is characterized by the xoffices and unfortunately that doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon.

I don't know about y'all but I never quite cared for the big plans they were talking about. Unless I see it in action I won't believe it. But what hurts is that many of our fellow storm fans thought that this was going to change but ultimately it won't. Xavier/magneto dynamic being centered I get but the summers/grey clan is what baffles me. Like seriously how? They pushed this wired random narrative that cyclops is special whilst his more amazing brothers were right there one being a freaking omega. Jean too I love her but like what is happening aside the x-men red she has been relegated to pre pheonix era. The more interesting summers Rachel has been demoted from omega.
But storms lack of exploration by the xoffice is a strange thing their most popular female charachter and second most popular charachter you would think would get some love but she just feels like she is there to be there. I said previously that I believe storm is being given these accolades to appease her fans oh she is QC member, oh she is badass, oh she is the most powerful knull avatar..... And I am like ohk if she is this awesome show it not tell it. But her purpose there is to mitigate backlash for no inclusion ultimately just like most if not all poc charachters. If claremont don't love storm soo much I don't think she would have been as iconic as she is today.
hahha oh wow just read bp 25. hot ghetto mess comes to mind. lolz. ok see ya in sept just had to get that out. lmao. oh and inferno in the fall. oooooooooh xmen 20 was good.

In the promo for Reign of X there's Storm holding a Mysterium tetrahedron which SWORD has been mining and is out in space where Storm is setting her eyes so...why would anyone think she'd be starring/leading in HiX-Man's unreleased book in September?
I just had to come back for one more post after reading new mutants or i wouldn't be able to get it off my mind. Vita is just everything. Everything. I would pay anything to read a Vita Storm solo. Just wow.

we see all these white heroes in 50 books at the same time and no one questions it.

It sucks we’re not getting a new Storm solo this year but it should be coming soon. She’s due for another it’s already been 7 years. Her other solos have all been between 8-10 years apart so I’m expecting her to get it before 2025. It’s ridiculous we have to wait so long in the first place but it is what it is :/. I just hope the writer is good.

I dont think she will. Coates is seemingly out of Marvel. He's headed to Hollywood. The arr others who want to write it, but I don't think they have the name recognition yet to launch a title.

Vita Ayala seems to be getting pushed pretty hard with COTA and New Mutants. Plus the Static reboot with Milestone. She’s a huge fan of Storm too. Definitely not a tent pole writer yet but within the X-fandom she’s pretty well received so maybe a Storm solo is possible under Ayala sometime.
Though if that happens I don’t expect it to follow up on any of Coates’ work with the character.
let's see what these big plans are xoffices because now you have no excuse. no solo so it seems it was just more hot air as usual.
I just have to say after X-men 20 i am so glad Duggan and Vita protected Storm and if what we got so far is what we got i'm good. I kind of have lost the steam for the gala now as well. A lot of thoughts on the run and todays x-men issue adds a lot context to things for me. Hopefully something is in the work with Storm but i think i'm pulling back to just the Ewing, Vita, Duggan books.

yes you were absolutely right to hold these thoughts. its more of the same. storm is just a glorified foot soldier nothing more in the xbooks. oh unless you think her greeting mutants upon resurrection is cute whoopee!!! 2 years and still nothing for storm in the xbooks and fans love it, and in BP she's a goddess and storm fans complain? its all so very silly. xoffices need to show us because as it relates to storm everything I've seen so far has fallen really flat.
yes Claremont is the only reason she is what she is today thankfully we got that at least right?

Well she’s probably the best bet lol. And say what you will about her contrived way of writing, but she always does her best to center Storm and portray her as a strong leader. I wouldn’t read the book but I think she’d tell a story the majority of Storm fans would appreciate.
But it’s more likely the character ends up in Ewing’s SWORD which is arguably better. It’s ironic that he does a better job with POC characters than Vita and pretty much every non-white writer at Marvel lol.
I'll admit that it was pure speculation that Hickman would write Storm in the Fall, but what I don't get is why they're keeping her transfer to SWORD so close to the vest.
To reveal the results of the fan vote, the entirety of the new X-Men team, AND that there will be a murder at the Gala but not that Storm is going to space seems counterintuitive.

Vita not being the best Storm writer does not equal them not being able to write POC's. The majority of the New Mutants cast is non-white and I think the characterization there is great.
This is not me advocating for a Vita written Storm solo, I'm just not a fan of over-generalized statements.

her writing specifically the contrived part is why I dont think vita would do her justice. storm was behaved like a petulant child the first time I witnessed storm under their pen so no thanks. then storm in cota was a hot mess too. I'm totally good on vita and no one could pay me to pick up a book with vita as the writer. I'm sure some like it but I'm not one.

Yea Storm must have a big story in SWORD if they’re being so quiet about it. But it’s still possible she ends up on whatever Hickman project he does. It’s nearly halfway through the year and we still have very little idea of what the plans are lol, give us the title she’ll be appearing in at least lol.
I don’t base my assessment of Ewing’s superior writing of POC characters based off Vita not being the best Storm writer. I think Vita does fine with POC characters, including Storm. I just think he’s a better writer than her in general and virtually every non-white writer at Marvel.
But unlike other talents like say Ben Percy (who’s been underperforming on X-Force), Ewing goes out of his way to highlight his POC characters, which means he tends to do a better job of characterizing and developing them than most everyone in the industry (regardless of race).

assuming storm is going to sword that would be welcome news as al will surely do her justice but I dont equate a shift in teams that noteworthy. maybe we all have different definitions on what "big" means but for me again the time for talk is over. I'm ready to see what these big plans are.

I understand what you're saying now and I agree that Ewing is a better writer, but it's weird to me that you made a point of saying that, "It’s ironic that he does a better job with POC characters than Vita."
I don't see what's ironic about the situation if Ewing is doing a better job with ALL of his characters (the man is talented as hell). If Vita was short-changing their POC characters the statement would be totally warranted, but I just seems like a weird comparison to make otherwise.

I'm not a vita fan but being fair i hear people enjoy new mutants which does include man poc characters. for me its only about how they have chosen to handle storm which I think has been a complete and utter letdown.
Even Storm being in SWORD is a "best guess based off of that RoX teaser") at this point and still I don't mind they're keeping the "reveal" close to the vest right now. It may have something to do with Planet-Size and the follow through from there that could be an important spoiler ...or not.
Patience is one of my virtues so...I'm not giving in to wishful thinking and speculation borne out of disappointment.

Pretty much. She was was either ending up in Sword or whatever book Hickman cooking up, and now we know it's the former. People acting demoralized over whatever plans they have for her makes no sense to me. Ewing is great, and I prefer him over Hickman, although I like Hickman as well.
If she does end up in Ewing's book I'll be over the moon past Mars heading to Jupiter. SWORD has been my top X-Title since it started so that would be a win-win-win for me. Still nothing is confirmed so I'm holding my expectations firmly in check.

You’re welcome. I enjoyed the final issue. Part of me would love for Storm to have an all black team of her own - Black Panther, Okoye, Spectrum, Gentle, Shola Inkosi and Flint.
The Storm/Spectrum team-up from the previous issue...I completely overlooked how awesome that was.Monica turns into lightning, Storm channels her into a megabolt and drops a massive mothership from the sky. Pretty bad ass what they can do in tandem.

Yes I actually enjoyed the last issue too. I was hoping for one last hadari yao feat but understood it was the last issue and much of the intentionn deserved to be on tchalla. Also, yes yes yes to an all black team where she leads!!! Sign me the hell up lol.
Yea the fact she was able to contain all of spectrum power within her was impressive indeed. I would like to see more team up like this in the future.
what are you hoping to see next for storm now that bp Coates run is over?
Pretty much. She was was either ending up in Sword or whatever book Hickman cooking up, and now we know it's the former. It's not demoralization it's more of many times bitten now infinitely shy. The big plans from the jump never woowed me. I was never impressed with their statements just waiting to see if all the words will manifest into something. I will admit Hickman not writing her solo is not a shock to me. I didn't expect it. But Ewing writing her is something I didn't really dwell on and now I am ecstatic we have seen what he has done with manifold and even magneto and others pending. Storm going to space under Ewing screams big power shaking feats which we all love but many of us wanted to see her ancestry and other aspects explored too her divinity. All that can be but under Ewing I just can't see that now. Maybe in the future.

I would much prefer her in Ewing’s hands, along with adult Cable, than Hickman’s honestly. Big win if that’s the case.
I think it’s also been hinted at that Adult Cable would joint SWORD.
oh I see. I dint think they have much if any interaction since the 90s right?
And just to be clear before my car gets here. In no way does Hickman going the opposite way I wanted him to go minimizes any of what was presented in all of the books. Hickman still is a good writer and writes one hell of a storm but I think the direction things are going in for me, certain things will be better to wait until it's over and read it rather than on a month to month or week to week basis. I do feel the twist this issue was lazy, just my opinion but I feel now I can see where the influence of the other writers and the book itself may have changed the trajectory for certain characters and I'm thankful for that. I also have a greater appreciation for Ben Percy work as I think he wrote the closet to the ultimate goal hickman may be going for. Either way this is the most exciting the xbooks have been in awhile and given what he has written seeing it now I truly appreciate the free reign he has given his collaborators and I feel I can really see it now.
And the appearance of onslaught makes perfect sense now and why storm is heading to space. My hopeful head canon is this will lead to a company reboot and more cohesion across all lines using moira but time.
