Has anyone read the recent Wolverine, number 11 I think? It has a reveal of someone recently familiar to Storm.
Edit: I can’t apparently get the spoiler code to work. Grrrrrrr
what did you find interesting here to you?
Check what Magneto is saying in the second SS and in the first it is just Storm face appearing for a moment when Legion is resurrected and the sky cracks.

oh the worldshaking part lol. that boldest does look like a bit of a teaser to what is to come.

oh wow that is interesting. the stakes must be pretty high for him to seek out death when his teammate was responsible for him becoming a vampire. I wonder how Wolverine will manage the animosity Death will surely have towards him.

I am interested to see if Storm’s name is dropped at all as she has had a connection with Dracula - and it is Dracula that Wolvie is fighting.

Most likely.

storm has some pretty powerful enemies. I wouldn't want to be in either of their cross hairs.

next week should be the start of a very fun week for us storm fans!
Thanks for the insight on your thoughts in the regard! I'm curious to see how the next writer will choose to incorporate Storm within the story.
I would like the shift the next question a bit. What xmen stories related to storm since the marriage was annulled up to now do you believe gave respect to the character considering her iconic status?
Wow...this question would require some research as that is a big chunk of time and many stories have been told since then. I would say though since the restoration by Coates there is a seemingly more collective effort to put Storm in her rightful place and most writers have been respectful in their depictions of her even if it has been limited in my opinion. Since Coates she's done a lot of heavy hitting and been called out as THE ONE by many in the presence of other powerhouses so it's a start. But honestly, I can't necessarily think of a story off the top of my head because there hasn't really been many Storm centric stories outside of her short lived solo and XMen Gold... (no need to talk about this). Her solo was fine but it still didn't feel epic enough for her character and her power even though she had some amazing power feats. It probably would have evolved into that had it not been canceled.
Claremont's Storm is the standard and every iteration he has written of her that I can think of has been the bomb, even the XMEN Forever Perfect Storm. Outside of that, perhaps my favorite Storm story is Yost's World's Apart. Again, I'm going off of memory but that's the first thing that comes to mind and that was way before the annulment.
I think their powers, while overlapping in the ways their powers manifest, are fundamentally very different and belong in their own categories. Its almost like I wouldn’t really call Thor’s power weather manipulation because its more like weather manifestation. Lightning, wind, rain (even raining fire), etc. where ever he is it will all manifest the same way with no environmental factors playing a role. That just feels like a fundamentally different powerset vs what Storm does.
I like this description and I also agree with the difference and why Storm would be the ultimate weather manipulator. I will say though I don't get why everyone has a hard time saying Storm is more powerful than Thor when it comes to the weather lol. It all feels a bit sexist lol.
It makes me think about the Phoenix Saga. Claremont originally wanted Phoenix to fight Thor or the Silver Surfer and win, but Shooter was having no parts of it.
"When asked why Shooter wanted to get rid of Phoenix, her original visual designer, Dave Cockrum, responded that “Shooter hated strong female characters. When we first introduced Phoenix, we wanted her to fight Thor or the Silver Surfer, but Shooter wouldn’t allow it. He said no female is going to beat Thor or the Silver Surfer” (91). Cockrum notes that in order to subvert Shooter’s mandate Phoenix did, however, win a battle against Firelord, a former herald of Galactus and a character who had previously beaten both Thor and the Silver Surfer."
The reason this quote is important to me was because Jean was powered up to be Phoenix in part to be able to rival/equal Storm's power levels. If Claremont believed that Phoenix could beat Thor or the Silver Surfer, then it isn't a stretch to believe they felt Storm was more powerful than both either. But I do believe with Storm not only being a woman, but a black woman, we have to always find ways to diminish her power levels and significance. I mean given the definition of Omega Mutant now and her listed as an Omega Weather Manipulator why are we arguing lol.
Finally, Storm has the ability to manipulate natural forces to create weather phenomena. That's insanely powerful as you can put Storm in any medium and she literally takes the raw elements of that place to create weather. So technically, she is like a supreme energy manipulator. Thor can make Storms of immense power but he cannot come close to reproducing this versatility and connection as far as we know. Also, if she ever delves into her magic potential, she could possibly even manipulate any storm Thor produces (which is about her potential). This is why I believe she is Omega, because who knows to what extent this Energy manipulation/weather manifestation could go. Look at what she did when she was infected with the virus. That wasn't (imo) a small feat.
Reading through the thread all i have to say is she deserves what was intended at the beginning. To be the most powerful woman in comics, that was her original purpose and i wanna see it. I cant pinpoint the interview but one of them writers (claremont or somebody else) expressed that weather was only a piece of the puzzle when it came to Storms powers. Lets open that box up.

Hit the nail ok the head! Also there is an article from 1976 that states that storm is more powerful than thor as he simply creates a storm but storm controls every detail of the storm. The truth we have a lot of sexist people in comic fandom who though they won't admit it don't like to see women overtake men this is made worst when the woman is a woman of colour. Storm is the most powerful weather manipulator yes Thor has created some insane weather but if he even brings a universe ending storm what is preventing storm from controlling it. Remember when storm met silver surfer she told him that he is outmatched
And that he should concede storm in charachter doesn't joke especially in battle. She said what she said and meant it. Plus she taking down stardust proved she can take down heralds. And heralds are constantly shown to be above Thor's paygrade.
Also the giant size one shot machine storm feat shows how far her power can go. I gush over this feat soo much because it is simple and straight to the point and debunks the whole storm need only atmosphere related elements to create weather. Just wish the xoffice will just keep getting creative rather than have her shoot lightning 99.999% of the time.
yes that is correct in 1976 Woweekazowie did an article where it was presented she was possibly more powerful than thor. why people see it differently today is simply thor has never been boxed in when it comes to his powers while most xwriters were trying to do the complete opposite with storm. that is until Coates came along.

thanks for this. I just would like to put it out there if characters like Spiderman and Wolverine can be featured in books outside their main offices and it not diminish them in any way, I don't see how that would be the case with storm appearing in BP. the onus is on the xwriters to develop her, while any other stories should be supplemental. I think it was harder to point out any substantive storm stories because the xwriters were not doing anything with her frankly until Coates took an interest in her.

Thor doesn't get limited when it comes to his powers because he is usually on solo adventures when with the avengers he gets a significant power decrease though not to the extent of storm. But this is negligible since the avengers fight galaxy level threats ever two to three business days. Storm is the opposite she gets limited because her power on the team makes the rest redundant. Like aside warp reality and the some other few stuff what can't she do when you take in the true scope of her powers. Even an x-writer stated that storm is sooo powerful they find it difficult to challenge her in battle. So the only other option is to nerf her to oblivion. Earlier on when I said she can manipulate magnetic fields directly and has temperature manipulation as part of her powerset, I was trying to make the point that with her on the team magneto, iceman, pyro are all redundant. But that's the thing she is built to stand alone.

The problem is spiderman and wolverine are always going to have solos regardless they have great development there and can afford to make appearances anywhere that does t diminish their profile. Maybe not Logan anymore people are slowly getting tired of him. But storm gets lucklaster attention from the xoffice and anything in black panther is seen as extensions. If the foundation is weak the more you build the likely the house will collapse.
just wanted to highlight this because the magnitude of Storm’s power is really insane.

Being able to manipulate Cosmic Winds is no joke! That galactic core feat is heavily underrated outside of Storm’s fanon community and we need to be bringing that up more because I never see it being talked about in Storm’s powerset by X-Office, youtube videos, or vs battles enough. There are still people who think her powers don’t work in space because it’s not “weather” that is one the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. So her mutation and energy sight is just supposed to turn off just because she leaves a planetary atmosphere? Hell No!. She’s OMEGA LEVEL. As I said before Storm’s power emanates from her, she doesn’t need any source to power her up. She sees and feels the elements of nature as patterns of force and energy that are hers to command. She’s already shown she can manipulate cosmic winds which are made up of plasma. Well guess what? 99.9% of the observable universe is made up plasma, which means she can manipulate the universe. Her feats on earth are just a small speck of her true power. He target doesn’t need to be within her line of sight either as we have seen she has struck down a ship thousands of miles a way by perceiving it the atmosphere. I also really love this scan. It really explains how her powers are more than merely planetary.

Did yall see that. It said “empty space” because even in the void of space there is energy. There’s something called dark energy which isn’t observable to the humans but it apparently makes up 80% of the universe. Storm can see that and who knows what she can do with it. I also noticed the word “Panorama” and that was a very interesting and specific word to use. Panorama means an unbroken view of the entire region surrounding the viewer. She can literally see in all directions like a sphere. So whether you’re behind her back! Or on the other side of the universe. You cannot hide!. There’s so much potential for her powerset it’s uncanny.
The Trion feat is also legendary for Storm. It showed that her powers work in ANY natural environment. Not just our dimension or physical universe. She is a Goddess and she has been from the beginning as this article states. I never wanna hear anybody say Storm is just a mid tier or high tier character. She’s cosmic PERIODT.

Yh the empty space solid planets and bright stars all become patterns of force and energy which she can control. All are primal forces she controls. I think maybe we have been too preoccupied with the atmosphere we seem to forget sometimes storm manipulates all mediums not just atmospheres. Because as it is stated even solid planets become patterns of force and energy which she controls.
I also love how it states the stars brighten as she lashes out with her power.

I just read your statement about dark energy and if that is part of storms purview then I think the whole discussion about weather Thor even holds a candle to storm becomes redundant. Because like you stated dark matter and energy consist of 95% of the universe and have a very strong effect on time and space itself. It is also the mysterious force expanding the universe. To control such force is literally insane.
But now we know that storms power allows her to perceive forces and energy that pertain to weather and manipulate them to her will if storm can see this energy as her perception changes then she can control it. This will make her even more crazy of a powerhouse than we can even concieve
Also she sends a blast just as powerful if not more powerful than the one binary delt towards her.

Agreed, there’s no reason for a main character who has been around since 1975 and has one of the most appearances of all characters to be treated like a side piece. I mean only THREE solo runs?! Come on, it’s ridiculous.

I sincerely don't either. beyond that it doesn't appear storm will be featured in any xbooks in August either.

I'm hoping they position her at the head of whatever book Hickman is writing. With all the focus on omega level mutants, Cyclops and Jean leading the X-Men on Earth, and the cosmic direction of the entire narrative it makes a lot of sense to have some kind of multiversal/high concept book based around the top mutants. We know Storm has a favored owed to her by the Shi'ar and she's one of the best mutants to lead an exposition into the unknown.
I think that's the most interesting direction I'd want to see short of a solo. But if not a Hickman written project I'd be happy to see her on Ewing's Sword, replacing Magneto as the Quiet Council liason.

With all the focus on omega level mutants, Cyclops and Jean leading the X-Men on Earth, and the cosmic direction of the entire narrative it makes a lot of sense to have some kind of multiversal/high concept book based around the top mutants. We know Storm has a favored owed to her by the Shi'ar and she's one of the best mutants to lead an exposition into the unknown.

its seemingly more likely that cable will be replacing magneto there since Ewing is writing that one-shot with adult cable. that said I do like the idea of her potential cosmic muscles being explored.
I haven't reached my point yet but i just want to be clear i do notice the little stuff like the white regular looking mutants being the builders of krakoa in this era or even whatever happens in planet size being the idea of another white mutant(magneto getting the omegas together.) and though i have noticed the visual of more mutant ]of color i'm not ignorant to that fact that the builders are all white normative looking mutants, mainly male. so i know what i have for my date in my for dropping everything if what i feel was alluded to doesn't materlize. I love the x-men and i'm good with stories but when you gas me up and don't deliver i'm done for good. While the august solitis feature what i think will be some quality books september/october is where i am truly looking. so i will be enjoying most of the books solicited except X-corp. I can't and don't want to connect to that book and that's cool.

hold up what do u mean? how have they gassed you up? what haven't they delivered on?
also great points regarding the builders of Krakoa. the sad reality is that the xmen has always been very white. one of the many reasons I love Coates coming in and changing that relative to our girl.

Well if you telling me 2021 is the year of ororo and there isn't even a single book she is featured in by august. at some pint you gassing (filling me with energy so i keep supporting something you have no intention of delivering on. with cars, when you gas them up they at least go.) me up. lol so i will give it to when the main writer/director announces his book. I would be fine with what we had but on principal don't gas me up and set my expectation higher. lol
I spend about 30 a week on comics. I know it's not a lot and not alot to many but i can easily redirect those funds elsewhere. I don't have to cook my own steak or i can find a writer and make my own. i level up quick artistically when i have a direction.

yeah for me personally anything short of a solo book is more of the same where we are promised things for her for it to never really materialize. the fact she is literally nowhere in August is just a mess but let's see what this secret Hickman title is. that will answer a lot of the questions we have.

I'm good with a Way of X type solo but so far every last perspective in a main book has been lead from the perspective of a traditional white male mutant including night crawler and i worked in business and x-corp is prob the whitest book i've ever read so at some point we do have to get off the pot. i've been patient i don't force creatives but if you don't want my money i'm good moving on. It will def hurt some but i'm adaptable and i think i will grow from the experience. lol. i'm drunk and high so yeah i dunno. lol
My mind is thinking it sucks what turned me away from x-men would be getting gassed up after going through all that other stuff. lol

Then do it create a fan comic exploring storm in the way you see her..trust me most storm fans will thank you for it. Sometimes you got to bring the mountain to Mohammed and if the xoffice us just gonna do lipservice we might as well do what we need to do.
They've been hyping big things coming for her but still nothing? I'm worried their "big plans" for her was having her show off in Planet Sized X-Men, which is just a one issue book. I guess the secret Hickman book is the last chance.

well I think its fair for you to wait and see what fall brings. now granted when the xwriters said they had big plans for her in 2021 I didn't think it would take this long to figure out. personally for me storm by the xoffices should be given the black widow, captain marvel treatment the avengers side has given those characters. the X-Men has been driven by the white male characters' vision of mutant kind and the only characters to have solos have been white male ones. your take earlier to this is a valid one and that is why big plans for me have to go much further than just a role on another team book. storm time after time is rated fans and creators alike most favorite character so why isn't she leading her own solo forging her own path like Wolverine?

Yea I feel like the cosmic stuff is where they're gonna take Storm, it's relatively new territory for her which adds novelty to whatever Hickman ends up doing. I'm sure he realizes that the character's been in dark place these last few years and it'd be a huge contribution to the X-Men franchise (and his resume) if he became the writer known to "reinvent" Storm and reestablish her as a main X-Men.
Plus I think if her Giant-Size issue is anything to go by Storm is possibly a character he wants to explore more mentally. I agree there's a good chance she won't be in SWORD.

The biggest beneficiaries of this era is white women lol which tends to be the case in "diversity" shifts like this. Moira is one of the three most important figures in this era alongside Mags and Prof X. Emma and Kitty are the leads of Marauders and both have seats at the Quiet Council. Betsy, now in a white body, is the only relevant character in Excalibur, which was the base of the first major event in this era.
The Five are led by a white woman. SWORD led by a white woman. Jean co-leads the X-Men. And then Hellions is led by a gay-coded Nazi lol. No soloes or even stealth soloes like Way of X headed by a non-white character. The only books where non-white (and especially non-white women) are centered consistently is in tertiary titles like Children of the Atom and New Mutants (I'm not reading that book but Dani is prominent, correct?) That's not to say non-white characters aren't getting used or even being given chances to shine. Most of us in this thread are pleasantly surprised by Duggan's Storm and of course Ewing did his thing with Manifold while Hellions does right by Psylocke. X-Corp also is putting M front and center even if the quality is trash. There is more visible diversity as a whole as well.
But in terms of genuine leadership positions and narrative influence, non-white X-Men are still firmly on the periphery. That MAY change with Synch on the X-Men team (but not leading it and pining after a white women no less lol) and Storm's upcoming arc but yea, it's essentially the same hierarchy of era's past in some regards. Hopefully Storm getting reestablished as a core player changes things.

1. I so wanted Ewing to have a chance to write her too. If they are not looking to expand her usage of abilities in the cosmos I personally don't care to see it but if this is a path to broaden her impact within the mu im for it.
2. excellent point about the more prominent books being led primarily by white men or women. its packaged differently yes but its the same energy the xoffices have been given for quite a while. I still think its a huge slap in the face for a character like bishop to be taking orders from kitty and or Emma considering his resume. he definitely should be calling a lot more shots than he has been.
