This post reminds me of one I made years ago. Nobody listens to Storm anymore because she comes across too much like a mother hen. The X-Men for the last few years have been about rebellion and having a rebellious nature and hear comes Storm the house mother to nag the isht out of you.
I said something similar about Bishop: Storm has been spectacular at doing nothing.
That's enough of me being a sour note. Carry on.
They always play it too safe with Storm. Thats why I liked Storm in parts of X of Swords when she stole from Wakanda and in Cota when she got bitchy with the Avengers. Writers finally had her doing some stuff that was controversial. I know some didn't like it and thought it was contrived, but damn, it was nice to finally see some edge to the character again. I just can't anymore with this demure Storm. Damn, can the character go big at least for a year or two and do SOMETHING?!
She is just so soft and just there. I have said it thousands of times before, but Claremont was not afraid to dirty up the character. All her subsequent writers seemed terrified to do so and are hesitant give the character any kind of grit. She has no direction. Is it that hard to give her one? To give her some kind of momentum? What a waste.
hey boo.
nope in the xbooks she is literally pretty much lightning lass with a secondary mutation for carrying knives lol.
but check back next week after weds we may have something other than lightning to discuss.
I sure will. Im done with my self imposed hiatus. I missed this board 😁👍🏾

I love edgy storm but I personally enjoy it when it makes sense to be as such. the perfect time for her to be edgy, for instance, would have been during the ivx saga. instead we got money dopey storm. what she did in that marauders issue and even with the avengers in cota seemed to be out of nowhere.

I’m sorry but if we get nothing significant I am truly done with comics. I haven’t read any issues of the Gala and none of the books grab my attention to even want to pick up. I am just tired of being let down and if this build up of importance is just her being in a team book I am done. My expectations are so low for what Marvel plans to do with her and their is no reason she shouldn’t be at the heart of this storyline to show her importance like Emma, Magneto and Cyke/Jean even Mystique it seems like big things are happening for them.

I can understand your frustrations trust me I do but there is a POTENTIAL that coming out of next weeks sword issue storm will have a huge new role in the MU. I would say try to hold out until at least next week.
-
Oooh sounds exciting! Just hope Marvel doesn't mess up the execution of her new role.
I just got some spoilers and storm fans there may some truth to these big plans. still a bit early to say but it looks promising. can't wait to discuss tomorrow.
That would be a very very pleasant surprise a shock but a good one. I am tired of being pessimistic.

We would move on from lightning to discussing rain and wind lol.

you and me both. from what I saw though it gives me reason to be slightly optimistic.

Yo, I already know where i stand in terms of these "big plans". Unlike my optimistic counterpart Butterflykyss, I'm on the grey side of the spectrum so I ain't expecting much to begin with but if they don't do anything with her I and I'm sure no else in here will be surprised. Hell, deep down I know these writers don't care for the black characters in terms of comic books but wouldn't say it outright because of backlash despite how iconic said character is. Personally i never saw the Xmen as a "diverse" team anyway to be real with y'all in comparison to the Titans.
-
Im optimistic, i dont really give the writers too much of my energy these days so ima sit, smile and watch what happens lol.
-
you and me both. from what I saw though it gives me reason to be slightly optimistic.
It's funny. Your slight optimism is giving me hope lmao. Whatever you saw or received hints about must be pretty significant. I do hope though that it is a role changing/defining moment and that Storm finally gets the MU wide shine and attention she deserves.

Agreed with this I’m with you on the grey side of the spectrum, I
Am Not expecting anything but I will hold out hope. I just hope this time is different and they deliver. Also I really agree with you saying the writers really don’t care about the black characters on their roster but outright saying it would be problematic so they just short change them at every turn it’s truly sad. I only stuck with XMen for Storm, I do enjoy Titans though so I may just invest my energy that way.

we will discuss tomorrow once we can talk about the spoilers. I think once you've read the issue you will understand where I'm coming from.

I didn't realize how much the xmen lacked diversity until they hit the big screen and the main characters were mostly white. also, the xoffices haven't given us much of anything to work from so I believe your criticism is a fair one. they have to do better with telling diverse stories but that ultimately starts with getting a more diverse creative team.

Is she terraforming there?

So is Storms "big story" or is she [spoil] the new ruler of Earth[/spoil]

[spoil] some are speculating she will be the new regent of sol ehichvwoof be huge[/spoil]
that would be huge for her character development if true.
Is she terraforming there?
no
[spoil] she just manipulated the climate on a planetary level [/spoil]

It definitely would be huge. Hopefully we get some answers soon.

I just read it was the ENTIRETY of the climate itself which is huge because climate involves the sea and land. Like who knew the xoffice could do that I am shocked in a good way. Looking forward to the discussions and the supposed 'Big' plans for her.
-
It definitely would be huge. Hopefully we get some answers soon.
agreed. I think there is supposed to be an interview on the 23rd with the xiffice team on whats to come. perhaps we will get some much needed tea then. what did you think of the issue?

let's not forget [spoil] she also felt the planet Mars was alive when it created its own rain.
she alsodid not need hope to amp her [/spoil]
that was nice to seeing this aspect of her powers again.

That was one of my fave scenes. I don't think people realize how much she poured into this planet as well. This was basically her, and the two arrako mutants after Magneto provided the iron and iceman cooled the core vulcan and hope heated up. But everything Storm did here she did on her own, she did not need amplification or healing or anything else and one thing i have said is Duggan respects the Goddess and it was buttered up in this issue in small little ways. I have refrained from commenting on the next era because there simply isn't enough information and ironically that has pushed me into a good kind of busy. lol
I can see why Duggan called her the omega's omega because she coalesced what was provided and really made it work together to create real life and not only that but to bring back life to a dead planet. If this is the ending point for me with xmen it was a hell of a run and this felt like a really good cap. So heres to seeing what's on the horizion, i truly enjoyed the dawn.

Well said jwats. It would have been nice to see the entirety of the planets climate being born as I think visually it would have made for a nice panel. that said your about bringing forth the atmosphere needed to encourage growth and life on the planet was very impressive. climate to is the kong term weather conditions which I think was also interesting that word was used over weather. Duggan referring to her as a goddess was also very encouraging seeing her powers provided the catalyst needed to sustain life there. storm is the goddess of life and im here for it.

Yh exactly and at lake helias did she do that? Did she move the earth cause she was the only one there or I was missing something.
Also on the hope part yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes I sawwww all of them needed help or teamed up to do their thing only she did that on her own.

The goddess they said the goddess, HA!

I loved Storm in this issue the regality of it all, molding the climate on Mars erg..Arrako on a planetary level, reviving a dead world and if all the rumors are true seeing Storm on a galactic level is about to become a real thing.
-
That's literally terraforming
I thought there was more to terraforming than just climate manipulation but ok. what about drinkable water, other organisms such as plant, etc., needed to for a planet to be habitable?
Yh exactly and at lake helias did she do that? Did she move the earth cause she was the only one there or I was missing something.

I don't think she caused the earth to move that was arrako that did that.

Storm had a great showing today. Love seeing her control space weather and terraform

it was very impressive especially as it was on a planetary level. very very nice showing today.

ok now that many have read it i have a question.
wasn't Duggan description here of ororos powers kinda backwards:

she manipulates or molds the weather on earth whereas on Mars she actually created the climate?
