There is nothing at all wrong with those enjoying the showing in Planet Sized, and I wasn’t trying to make anyone feel guilty for that. I just personally feel it’s crumbs though a very good and beautiful showing. As long as they continue the momentum then I’m good but past experiences makes me doubtful is all. Congrats to the showing though

I think its fair to be measured or unimpressed considering what has been done in the past. it almost July and we still don't know what she will be doing moving forward. acknowledging this doesn't take away from what she did in planet size.
we ultimately just want storm to get her lroper due beyond being a supporting character and shooting lightning.
-
Personally, Whatever happens in SWORD is happening in SWORD. It could be as awesome, even more awesome, or not worth the time it took to write it (it's Ewing so I doubt that)...but that's next week.
Today...Storm did THAT.
-
Count me as another one that didn't really care what Storm did in planet size. Although I do think her new potential role is a fresh and potentially great new direction for the character. So many possibilities, so in that aspect I am fine with what has been hinted at so far. It feels weighty and significant.

why didn't you care for it, if you don't mind going into that detail?
-
Well I never meant to take away your joy, I just want more meat to the narrative reserved to Ororo, duggan did very little with her despite all those marauders issues, she needs to lead not just formally but substantially
Don't mind that person you don't steal my joy. I just came back down to earth. I cherish this feat immensely but I am not blinded to the ways of the xoffice in regards to storm just hope the more in store for her is worth the wait and anticipation.
-
Storm created a Martian climate. Absolutely. I thought there was something poetic in how Duggan described what she was doing.
"...as her thunder reigns from on high...the Goddess marries the land and sea with winds that will nourish this mutant garden-world forevermore"
Yes, it's up for some measure of interpretation as it doesn't say just how she's doing it in exact detail but at the end of it all...Storm created an entire planetary weather system basically from scratch.
(And even if they explicitly said HOW she did it...there would still be a few in here wanting to "debate" that it can't be as described.)
Yh like I said she created the planets climate it's literally stated in the panel. No need to think far.

me too boo I'm still would love to see the goddess thing explored but if she is a galatic diplomat fighting to preserve peace throughout the solar system I can work with that

Perfectly said. No one is saying what happened today wasn't amazing it shut down some very stupid debates. But I am not gonna sit here and be unrealistic about the xoffice they gotta do more proving to get me to believe they have a plan. I mean storm could get a new fancy title added to her LONG! list of fancy titles and just do nothing except shoot lightning and throw knives. But in a surprising turn of event she could do more and actually have expansion to charachter and powerset. But that based on past track record is unlikely.

Yh like don't just say the goddess and then not show what that means. And her divinity is separate from her mutation that should be addressed. I would have loved a new book for storm and her interactions with the arrako mutants they showing her the way and helping her grow.

what do you want to see her next steps be? what do you think would help correct some of the past grievances some fans have had with how she is depicted?

right and agreed. I think it would be awesome for her ancestry to be explored the difficult thing though now is the xoffices are focused on elements that reinforce "i am mutant hear me roar" to ensure solidarity. I dont see them highlighting stories that put a spotlight on her characterization that deviates from that, which talking about her godhead or ancestors who delve in magic would do..
-
As I posted in the issue thread...it's so refreshing to see mutants using their powers together to create rather than to fight and defend themselves. And I can imagine it's even more poignant for Storm who values life and creation and nature on a deeper, more spiritual level. And especially on such a grand, planetary scale.
I am imagining just how every molecule of her being was bathed in divine light and power. How extraordinary it must have felt to be doing the Bright Lady's work in those moments.
-
So Storm is going to be base on Mars now?
What is her role now?
Very honestly I felt Storm Magneto and the Sea and Ground Arkii were all that was needed to terreform Mars. Not sure as to why Vulcan was there Storm and Mag could of done his job by combining abilities. And what was the point of Iceman.
Overall the feat was awesome. Atmosphere, climate, and setting up ocean, wind& ground currents, and ect .... Plantery feat within minutes.
-
what do you want to see her next steps be? what do you think would help correct some of the past grievances some fans have had with how she is depicted?
Make universe impacting decisions. Like I want her to be more active in this era whilst her lineage is explored storm is not just the xmen she is more than that. I want to know about her grand parents are the still there how are they doing. I just want more.

It was an omega affair it would be rude to not invite all of them.
why didn't you care for it, if you don't mind going into that detail?
I have always said that it's dumb that Storm is a weather manipulator and all she does is shoot lightning. Still it's very easy for these writers to throw a power feat her way and then be done with the character. And that's all this was. Impressive, but that doesn't help the character move forward. She once again has no real dialogue. No presence. No voice. Her lines could have been given to anyone and nothing would change in the story. She is just there, again. Power expansion is nice but at this point the character needs forward momentum more than anything else right now. Period. So I just don't care about what big power displays she is doing. Can they actually, develop her role in the franchise in a meaningful way first? This was just more of the same.
Another thin display for this character. But thankfully, Magneto was significant here, cause lord knows he is definitely suffering in development and characterization right? It's just comical at this point. Storm clearly wasn't meant to be the focus here and SWORD is maybe where we will actually get what I am talking about. But there is no point in trying to be satisfied or making excuses for the scraps they throw this character's way. I respect everyone's opinion as it is their own, but I don't personally see how anyone could be satisfied with what we were given with Storm today. I am done giving credit and accepting the bare minimum with this character. After languishing this long I don't give any writer or creator the benefit of the doubt anymore. Put up or shut up. That's harsh but when Storm has been an afterthought for this long, I don't care.
The actual issue and story itself is fine, but if one were looking for a Storm fix, it didn't do it for me.

I really liked Planet Size. maybe I underestimated Duggan. now looking forward to S.W.O.R.D.

My thoughts exactly, I thought it was a stunning display of power and grace for her character so I was very happy. But even more importantly the issue also gave us a pretty clear picture of what her role will be going forward as it heavily hints she’ll be regent of Sol, which is an interesting position even if not all the details of what that means are readily apparent. I expect Ewing to delve into this as that position seems to conflict with Frenzy’s role as Sol’s representative who also mediates conflicts with intergalactic powers.
Hopefully he’ll provide some clarification on who’s job is what, which isn’t even getting into the whole new world of possibilities of Storm just living on another planet or her relationship to the mysterium which was hinted at in the Reign of X teaser pic. Lots of interesting new narrative directions are now available to Storm so I’m excited. The power display was nice but the real gem here is the signal that Storm is finally getting a strong, leading role within the narrative of Krakoa, one that places her in the cosmic space written by one of the best writers in the industry

I hear you. While the Sol's Regent thing has potential to be awesome in a whole other way...I'm not one to give in to wishful thinking and speculation. (I usually prefer to see how it's presented on the page and then think on it). I am very interested in that development, don't get me wrong but...as with this issue, I'm keeping my expectations realistic. I'm waiting to see what Ewing does with it. He hasn't let me down, yet.
On the subject...seeing as there are two SWORD stations, might Storm be the leader in charge of SII (I don't see Brand giving up SI) and if so, I wonder who will be under Storm's direction. THAT could be worthy of some speculation.
and for anyone's betterment edification...it was revealed on twitter Stefano Caselli will be the new artist on SWORD.

Yeah, so many threads they can go. Regent of Sol would be awesome, although I can also see her taking over S.W.O.R.D. 2.0. Either way, next week's S.W.O.R.D. will be interesting. I'm keeping my expectations on neutral.

1. yea I dont think anyone can argue with you there at all. They have said they have big plans for her but as you pointed out what she has done in terms of dialogue can be switched with any other character and it wouldn't change the story.
2. Yes mags definitely has been a major player in this event so as Emma. its clear which characters have been the drivers of this event and previous ones.

That makes sense, we definitely need more info and I think we’ll get some in the coming weeks. Ewing’s the right guy to do that.
Thinking of SWORD one of the main points of contention is the extent to which it is a human or Krakoan organization. Maybe this second SWORD station presents an opportunity for mutantkind to have a Krakoa-centric intergalactic body at their disposal, which Storm could potentially be directing from Mars. It’d be interesting to see who Storm brings under her umbrella if that were the case.

ok article but i think though not shown people miss the point Storm was in the sky working the whole time everyone else was doing their thing as evident by the cyclones in the sky and why was the weather so stable on the ground for everyone to be able to do the work they were doing. That is also why she was shown at several points throughout the entire issue so while it may not have come off as prominent i still don't think many realize how much Storm really did here during this entire process. I also specifically think it was storm who made the air breathable because as i mentioned she was working the entire time and the flow suggests that. The plants were able to capture that oxygen and thus make it sustainable. It was a really great showing all around.
Could it have been done a million different ways? Sure. But that's not my job i can only judge what was presented to me and i was beyond satisfied. This whole era i think storm was treated well and no matter which way things go good or bad has been the only character left basically in tact completely. I appreciate that and i think this crew appreciated her. I think the gas lighting was unnecessary and that to me is the only annoying thing but i love well executed ideas and this for me was that. Aside from the stance of mutants now fearing and hating which i just honestly still don't understand or know what is being said or even felt that throughout the entire thing and as a black man completely disagree that fear and hate naturally breeds fear and hate, i can't complain about anything else from the run to be honest.

That's what I'm thinking.
I figure she might call in her favour from Xandra and it could be a whole crew of diverse alien races...Shi'ar, Skrull, Kree, Brood etc. and Araki and Krakoan mutants. And if it Ewing ties it in to his Cosmic Marvel shenanigans...it could be huge and far-reaching, indeed for mutants in general and for Storm.
I hsve to reread the issue. I didn't see the weather happening while everyone else was working.
Though you don't see Storm the page iceman is on we see the cyclone in the sky. That cyclone is the same cyclone we see behind Storm. Storm doesn't come down from the sky until after the mutants are teleported meaning in some capacity she was working the whole time. I mean mars must have some wind that moves along it's surface, i'm no genius but none of the mutants that had ground work to do was being affected by the raging winds, tides, etc, while making the world. Their helmets only did so much when a land rover didn't make it.
I felt storm presence and voice throught this entire run including this issue with her being the one to welcome charles to bring the others, to Arrako building it's location to what i assume is her specifics. but if that is delivered on i don't know, not enough info. But i will say GOTG and Sword and now this makes me feel like Storm is going to get some story she deserves. If it happens it happens but i'm not going to pee on anyone else parade.
