They might be referring to the New Warriors Annual 1991 where Cable says that he recognises a character named Cord from his “stint in North Africa” in 73. Which I think can be open for interpretation as a stint doesn’t necessarily mean that he served in any military.
I had to pull out my copy but yea you're right. Cable says: North Africa '73. Doesn't say stint but I guess they both might have been mercs in some type of conflict.
In the 1st New Warriors series, it was reveled that Cable served in the Vietnam War.
I'm so lost. Has Cable really done that much time-hopping???

He mentions the stint on the first page when he’s talking to domino

Yes. He’s jumped further into the past than the 20th Century, and used to hop back and forth between 3999 A.D. and the present day quite a bit in the early 90s.

The only conflict in 1973 in North Africa is the 1973 Arab–Israeli War, and that is stretching the definition of North Africa, so it could be just throwing dates and places at random and not the mention of a specific conflict

He also once mentioned getting into a fist fight with George Washington.

He's a soldier in the mutant military.

I believe that was George Washington Bridge, not the president, he was referring to.

Cable and GW Bridge were both part of a group of six nicknamed the Sixpack. Mercenaries? Not sure who else belonged
.

Is that even an actual faction, lol?

Correct. Love the Six Pack (originally known as the Wild Pack, but had to change because of Silver Sable):

nah. This was after another time traveler had bragged about fighting Ghengis Khan (or something to that affect.)

I wonder if that was during Robinson's brief run on the book when he fought Conquest? Seems vaguely familiar. May have to go back and re-read. I did love how Cable beat him, though. Taking him back to prehistoric times and setting a trap. Good stuff. Cable is basically Batman with more upgrades (mutant powers, cybernetics, time travel, etc.).

He is a soldier despite growing up soft and pampered by Redd and Slim. Hope had a much more military upbringing.

As the son of two of the most important X-men in history, who were afforded the ability to go to the future for years to raise him, Cable's privilege is clearly showing. ;)
