I am hoping that the mind control is also mixed with a very real opposition based upon some of the terrible decisions that T'Challa has made (when it comes to Wakanda) over the past few years. Take note here..
Leaving aside the problems of reconciling absolute monarchy with ultra-modernism, there are the actual events in Wakanda which have happened under previous writers. In recent years Wakandans have endured a coup courtesy of the villainous Achebe, another courtesy Dr. Doom, the murder of two of T’Challa top lieutenants, a cataclysmic flood courtesy of Prince Namor, the subsequent dissolution of a royal marriage, and finally decimation and conquest at the hands of Thanos’ Black Order. Wakanda had always prided itself on having never been conquered. This is no longer true. What, then, is the country if it is as vulnerable as all others? And what happens to a state when its absolute monarch can no longer fulfill the base requirement of any government—securing the safety of their people?
-Ta-Nehisi Coates
One of the reasons I am excited and so looking forward to Coates's take on the Panther character, is because he has so far refused to let T'Challa off the hook for his decisions. T'Challa in the eyes of Wakanda is not a superhero, he is their King. A champion of all things Wakanda and the national and most importantly, spiritual, symbol of Wakandan excellence. Coates has directly outlined the reasons why Wakandans would lose faith in T'Challa representing this symbol, and therefore T'Challa, as a character, as a Wakandan, as a King, must be redeemed in the eyes of not only his people, but his audience. Resetting time BACK to BEFORE to you directly failed to protect your Kingdom is no redemption, furthermore, resetting time back and in particularly doing so in a manner where you are now King again, usurping the current Panther and Monarch, your own sister, casts a shadow of unearned reward. T'Challa's methods, mind-state,mane worthiness must be put on a trial of sorts, where his character must face the very real question of whether he is fit to rule.
This, as shown in the preview will be a Trial Of Fire.
It is my belief that this arc, a Nation Under Our a Feet, will constitute the redemption of T'Challa and the reaffirmation of THE Black Panther. By the end of this arc there will be little doubt that T'Challa is the rightful holder of the title. This HAS to come however, from direct challenge, direct challenge from the very people whom he failed. Resetting time doesn't force you to face your decisions, facing mind-controlled puppets doesn't force you to face your decisions. Anarchy however, forces you to face yourself and your part in losing the trust of the people you have sworn to protect. Failure forces you to reforge your resolve, and the one question that those who doubt his reign and rule need ONE crucial question answered of the man who tradition directs them to follow.
Who Is The Black Panther?
Coates will answer that question, for the faithful, for the doubters, and for the 2016 audience.
If you want to be technical about it, all the things Coates mentioned except the Achebe thing occured when Shuri was ruling Wakanda.
But yeah... I think the people have legitimate gripes against T'Challa. This was a guy who at one point was a school teacher halfway across the country when he was still the ruling king of Wakanda. So there are legitimate reasons to question his priorities (even though I doubt anyone else could really do a better job than him).
I'm sure by the end of Coatess run Wakanda and readers will see that T'Challa the right guy to sit on that throne.

I am assuming that is the point of this run. Hopefully anyway.
And I think Coates mentioned that Waknada is fed up with the royal family, not just T'challa

Oh.. and we won't see Wakanda in Civil War...
Chadwick Boseman confirmed the news in a recent chat with Nerdist, stating: "I know you thought you were because of 'Age of Ultron,' but…it’s not happening." That's a shame, but you can understand why Marvel would want to take their time designing the country and letting director Ryan Coogler give his input there rather than deciding on that now.

No surprise there. I prefer we see Wakanda in all of its glory in the solo anyway.

A little disappointing but not altogether unexpected

I thought we might get a Throne room shot at least, of T'chaka sending T'challa to the US.
I wonder if MCU T'challa is going to be "world educated" like comic T'challa or if he stayed in Wakanda only.
IN MORE PANTHER NEWS...
Necropolis is about to show up in Future Fight, looks like the Black Order is heading there.
Man, i wish they would add a uniform for T'challa in that game.... i imagine we will get one when CW comes out though.

The whole monarchy style of governing is being put to task by Coates. Wakanda may not have a monarchy by the end of this story arc.

Very good question. I'd wager that they'd stick with the "World Educated" aspect of his character so that it stands in contrast with some of Wakanda's ruling class, perhaps even his father, in the solo movie. It would also make for good characterization if T'Challa and T'Chaka have been having discussion about bringing Wakanda into the wider world, which Feige has directly implied. It could also be a sticking point in Civil War itself that T'Chaka expressly sent T'Challa to the west due to his worldly education and time spent with foreigners.
I think that, in some aspect T'Challa has to be relatable to western audiences who will be going to see him in 2018. This doesn't mean that he has to share western ideals of course, just that he has an understanding of the culture.

Exactly.
Although I do feel it will still be a monarchy at the end, it would be rather bold to end the entire monarchy and if written in an ex-error handled manner could present a compelling change to the Panther mythology. The reason I think it won't happen is simply because T'Challa as King is a defining part of his character, not THE ONLY defining part but a pretty major one. Which is why I feel a redemption arc is absolutely needed and that after T'Challa has proven himself fit to rule, the people will follow him gladly.
-
Could see it being T'challa remains King, but "the people" as a whole are given a larger voice, whether through a parliament, congress, council, whatever.
T'challa is gonna be King in the MCU. THe comics will want to align (or should)

That's only news if you haven't been paying attention to what Kevin Feige said when the Black Panther film was announced. He outright said the movie would be about Wakanda's introduction to the rest of the world. It's like when that Sony deal happened a lot of places that were supposed to be covering this stuff ignored it in favor ot stupid spider-man rumors.

It got muddled when the Russo's pretty much stated that Wakanda would be seen in Civil War.

They were joking around during a Q & A and people took it as the gospel. It was the same interview where they said infinity war would feature 60 characters and people took that seriously.

It'll probably still have a monarchy because it's cool having a super hero king.
But I suspect the system will be tweaked to add greater represee5and democracy. Those are things people want even in a well run monarchy.

Someone in last few pages mentioned seeing Wakanda in CW, so I felt it was worthy of a quick post
