No that’s not who he is to the general public. He’s an assasin who has killed numerous people over 70+ years. Check out the news report from Cap 3 they identified him right away as the winter soldier. 24 hours in today’s media cycle is all you really need.
If he operates in secret fine, but he wouldn’t not be embraced by a realistic populace. Bucky would need to do a lot of publicly known good for a decent amount of time to rehabilitate his image
I'll have to rewatch. I didn't think he was specifically named.

I have a crazy idea. How about Bucky stays as Bucky? Wild, I know.

The line from the news anchor is "Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as James Buchanan Barnes, the Winter Soldier, the infamous HYDRA agent linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations."

Well, my bad then. Looks like you guys are right he's totally compromised.
That said my point about him being the one linked to Wakanda rather than Steve still is relevant.
Side note: Maybe T'challa or Shuri can give Falcon new wings.
And maybe a better suit for Rhodey while they're at it.
If the White wolf thing is true (and I'm not convinced it is) Then that's a huge missed opportunity to build upon the Black Panther Franchise and expand his world. Hunter is a great character and could have been wakandas Punisher. Now it's wasted on a character that does nothing for the franchise.
There's a REASON Hunter isn't in the movies
In the comics Hunter is the subversion of the Mighty Whitey trope. That is the whole point of the character.
The film dispenses with the trope altogether. So there's no reason for Hunter to be there.
The same people who were complaining about Ross' presence in the movie(who don't care about the original comics they just watch the movies), would have a bloody field day with a ass-pulled White Foster brother whose night hustle was being a Wakandan Super Agent.
The name thing is just a little easter egg fanboy callout so Bucky can name himself something other than the code name his brainwashers gave him.

People complaining about Ross are idiots who should be given the same level of credence as those who complained about the movie being too "Black".
The only reason viable reason for Hunter to be excluded was due to time restraints since we had so many characters already and Michael B Killmonger needed to get his complete backstory in there (but we can read about T'challas in the comic *eye rolls*). I don't have a problem with the idea that Wakanda's King would welcome in a white character who has complete loyalty to his nation.

I've seen the movie three times and still love it for anyone wondering.

They could give Falcon new wings although his gear looked pretty great in Civil War.
Rhodes still worked for the military last I checked so idk how I’d feel as a Wakandan handing stuff over to the US or even Stark who gets his armor compromised half the time, but will see end of the world scenarios tend to change peoples minds

Entertainment Weekly has 15 covers for Infinity War.
3 of them feature Wakandan characters.

I don't really like Black Panther's Avengers suit. It's not nearly as intricate and kind of looks cheap. It reminds me of how bad Cap's second suit looked.
-
If BP does Hunter he’ll be completely different from the comic version. We’ve already got Loki as the jealous adopted brother in Thor. Do we need another. I’m just trying to think what Hunter would bring at this point.... is he going to try and take the throne? We just saw that.
Would he just be a mercenary out in the world? I’m not saying they couldn’t use Hunter, but I think you’d need to get creative otherwise I don’t see the point of using him just for the sake of the name.

I’m okay with it but I’ll admit the first suit looked better. When he was going after Bucky and Cap he was a beast. And the way they did it the armor didn’t look that cgi’d despite it being fully cgi

It is, to my knowledge, the same suit used for his solo film. I preferred the Civil War suit myself.

I think it's too late to use Hunter. If he didn't show up for T'Chaka's death then he's not gonna show up.
