Makes me miss the days when the West and East Coast Avengers would get together for an annual softball game in the annuals every year.
THose were cool.
Plus the X-Men used to play softball regularly in the backyard.
Then there were the Ben Grimm/Avengers/random heroes poker games...

Neat! It's a re-creation of the old character box from the 70's!

One thing I actually miss about Bendis writing the Avengers is that the took the time to show the heroes in their quieter moments. A lot of people had issues with him wasting panel time showing them sitting around eating or whatever, and he arguably did TOO much of that ... but I honestly thought it was fun. I hope more writers do more stuff like that.
I'd like to see the Crew sitting around chilling or going to a bar one night or whatever. I think that could be fun.

One thing I will never complain about with this run is the art. It's always been on point
Gamestop is all over the hood here.
It's a different vibe altogether.
Part of it is because there no real difference between the peeps in front of the counter and behind it around here.
The other part of it is that the recent (but not anything new) "Circle of Life" controversy is kinda besides the point here.
Most heads 'round here (me included) generally weren't ever trying to buy new games to begin with.
Hood folks are Gamestop's ideal customers.
The Gamestop near me is the main cross section hub for the hood, hipsters/techies and white trash
It is the YouTube comments come to life and I'm not joking
I'm anal about my games and if it doesn't look mint I don't want it
I think if you have a classic storyline under your belt, you can get away with doing stuff more long form.
You can wait out Bendis in hopes of getting another Alias or Daredevil. Wait out Hickman's Avengers hoping for another F4.
Or if you are good enough at it that there are at least mini arcs. Remender's Uncanny Xforce is essentially 35 issues long... but it had multple small, action packed arcs that were beginnings and ends in there. Aarons God Butcher arc is 11 issues and tooka year to tell... but each issue was exciting as hell weaving in 3 different timelines of Thor while introducing a new villain. HIckman does the same but not as well (IMO of course).
One issue with Coates (for me) is the unknown. Is he good enough to wrap this baby up in 1-2 more issues? Or is #11 going to simply feel like every other issue? You can' spend a year building a story up and then not end on a BANG.
I think Coates will wrap things up "well." How well remains to be seen.
Coates best issues IMHO (#10, #8, #4) are issues that conclude plot points or story arcs. Writing wise, he's a decent, if not good finisher.
Thing is, #11 has a lot to fulfill, so there's a strong possibility that it will not fulfill the expectations of many readers out there.

For some reason Shuri's boots are the thing I hate the most about her new design, love everything else

I think #11 will actually be more action-based than anything else. His original arc was 11 issues long, but then issue 12 was added as an "epilogue" of sorts. I wonder if 12 won't be the actual conclusion and fallout to the plot, and 11 will have more combat than initially planned.

For another other book, my expections would actually seem... trivial or low.
Have tetu, zenzi, and the people physically crushed while showing off T'challa (and shuri's) abilities.
lol

But the Real thing is can the art deliver? I mean this is the final big fight, you can't push it off or do what Coates did with the DM vs HZ and skimp the fight, and it can't be underwhelming like the crew vs Stane fight.. basically there is ALOT of build up with I feel like it's gonna be a huge letdown Because he didn't space out the action

I suspect #11 will be more action-based as well. Question is, how much action will there be and how good will it be?
#5 and #10 had short but pretty good action scenes, while the rest of the action scenes of the book were kind of underwhelming, especially #6 and #7. I hope that it'll improve this time.

Coates' "clutch gene" will be put to the test in two weeks.
