Agreed 100%.
And yet, for some unknown reason whenever Reginald Hudlin's name is mentioned in connection with the BP movie the fact that he hasn't directed action movies keeps being mentioned.
His association with BET.....taints things.
I am not sure what ur point is though just because the Russos made the transition does not mean everyone can make it.
Besides if we need a Black Director there are some other options out there that I like and have produced some quality work recently. Ava Duvernay and Lee Daniels spring to mind.
Still I am interested why do you think Hudlin should direct? Loving a character is not enough, Lucas loves Star Wars doesnt make the PT great and this needs to be great.
I'm disappointing in the decision to have Namor do what he did by Marvel editorial, but no I don't hate him, just like I don't hate Storm for her part in AvX. As it is, I've resigned myself to these kinds of "hero vs. hero" decisions that don't help anyone, and I just move on and keep to my views of the relationship.
Ah I like hating Namor because debating Namor Fans and Trolling Problematic X-Fans is good fun. I dont hate characters though they are fictional save the hate for the real world.

100% agree with you
But no matter what you say, people will still defend hudlin in directing bp despite the fact that his filmography is lukewarm at best

Who knows maybe he can make the leap? But I am not gambling Black Panther Movie on Hudlin sry I appreciate him trying to push the Franchise and I think he loves the character. But sometimes Love is not enough.

The great big ole elephant in da room...
Among the problems in Hollywood is that black directors are not given much of a chance to both fail and succeed without it being the end of the world for their career!
Hudlin has a much better cinematic feel which is why some of his comic book writing throws people off... Plus the fact that there are not too many other black writers to compare and contrast him with for scale purposes!
With that said... The Russo brothers like the Wachowski brothers are given ample opportunities to make it even when they have back to back flops where as a black director had better get it right the first time or else!
James Cameron did Piranha 2 but somehow is given a clear chance to succeed with major block busters and this I know from knowing the very person that boosted his career and told me how she did it along with Arnold Schwarzenegger's career!
It's called "Opportunity" and one must have one or many to build an impressive resume so I see no reason why Hudlin would not make a great director for a character that only he has ever helped to make money for!
Marvel Comics... Stan Lee... Jack Kirby... Priest... Marvel Studios... Nor even Disney for that matter has made money off of Black Panther in cancelled print comics, vague cartoon appearances, merchandise etc but Hudlin did make a profit and had a lucrative run!
To get ahead in Hollywood it's not what you know but who you know... I have a pretty good feeling that Hudlin knows that this is a politically driven action drama and would make the necessary halftime adjustments as the designated director!
As Hudlin told me years ago when I ran into him at the grocery store quoting Jay Z... Men may lie, women may lie but the numbers don't lie!
I would rather have someone in such a high position that understood racial politics as well as what the historical significance of this particular film means than just some random director that ends up apologizing like Michael Bay did over them illiterate Negrobots...

The Marvel/Disney Black Panther Aftermath Press Conference...
Randomly Selected Up and Coming White Director: "I would like to sincerely apologize to Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and any member of the black community that was offended by the character Man-Ape in this film. We did not intend to insult or denigrate any ethnic groups and we also apologize to the entire continent of Africa for having a technologically advanced civilization still running around in buck naked loincloths. We strive to be all inclusive and respectful of everyone regardless of race, creed or culture... Thank you!"
Reporter: "Will you try to reboot the franchise after this debacle?"
Mickey Mouse: "I'll answer that... We FRAKKED it up so bad that we will never revisit this franchise again like ever so peace out!"

If opting to not settle for scraps constitutes as "constant complaining" in your eyes, that's your prerogative.

My point was very clear and to be quite frank, I don't have to debate or explain anything beyond what Marvell2100 has more than eloquently stated here....
True, but that shouldn't be a deterrent to him being considered. The aforementioned Russo Bros are prime examples.
I'm sure the irony of your disqualifying Hudlin due to some supposed "taint" for former BET affiliation whilst mentioning Lee Daniels of "Precious" and "Empire" fame as a producer of "quality work" is some kind of April Fools joke but, I somehow doubt it.

Fortunately, we don't all subscribe to the crabs in the bucket mentality that pulls individuals who actually care for a product down, in favour of unknown quantities who haven't even been name dropped as of yet.
What you so blithely refer to as people "defending Hudlin" is laughable in the face of his established track record in relation to both T'Challa and Ororo juxtaposed against how both characters have faired post-Hudlin.
Hudlin was the only writer who actually wanted to write a Black Panther book from jump without seeing it as an unwelcome "consolation prize" as was the case with Priest or as a means to an end like Maberry (and to some extent) Hickman who has merely used T'Challa and Wakanda as covenient backdrops to facilitate an "Everthing Dies" storyline that does neither any favours whilst stunting whatever forward momentum that David Liss's Black Panther:Most Dangerous Man Alive book built up pre-AvX.

At the end of the day, whoever ends up directing the proposed Black Panther movie will have their work cut out for them in the wake of the superior work delivered by the Russo Brothers via Captain America:Winter soldier.

A good argument. Although that is true of pretty much every field to some extent or the other although obviously much worse in the creative fields.

I don't see how Hudlin's association with BET taints things? In what manner? I'd love to see a Hudlin/Spike Lee collaboration on Panther.
Hudlin imo wouldn't fall into the pitfalls that a lot of directors might. T'Challa is not a humorous character and I'd be afraid of the unnecessary humor injected at inopportune moments. The characters around him should be where the humor comes. And not the fart jokes or over the top stuff like we've seen in Iron Man from time to time. The Panther movie should have a heavy tone similar to Winter Soldier and I just think Hudlin would get this. I'm not saying he's better than everyone else or even the best. But I think he does have a handle on T'Challa and would really give us the movie that we all want to see. Just my opinion.

Those magic (maybe?) gauntlets from his fight with Namor showed up again today. I'd be happy if those and the energy daggers became his signature weapons going forward. The magic/plasma/whatever it is makes them more interesting than claws alone. Would be very cool to see in a movie!

As is your right and it doesn't bother me one bit. But what you consider "scraps", I consider progress towards the mainstreaming of T'challa and Wakanda. I do have a bit of blind faith and if I'm wrong then I'll say as much and join in on the train of "chaos" you are bringing. Until such time I chose to enjoy T'challa's current level of exposure as opposed to the position he was in 5 or 6 years ago.

I agree. it separates him from the 50 other claws hero's and villains of the Marvel universe as well as shows off the general idea of what wakanda represents and is capable of. GOOD JOB HICKMAN!

I think Panther can be funny put its more deadpan like his scenes with Hawkeye in EMH. Or like a Captain Holt in Brooklyn 99.
