By this logic Shuri becomes the Mary Sue. Fierce warrior and super genius. What makes T'Challa stand out other than being fortunate enough to have been born first?
Now, while I'm sure writers are grappling with this question right now, I do wonder what kind of character she will grow into. In the comics she started as spunky kid sister, then turned into BP lite with a heavy reliance on tech, then Hickman wrote her as more T'Challa than T'Challa, Coates turned her into some sorceress/druid, and the movie has her as a big brain who is also a fierce Wakandan warrior. Truly a mercurial character. Just not sure which one I should like.
Shuri is only the best at one thing though... yes, she's a warrior but I doubt anyone believes she's a better warrior than T'Challa or Okoye. So I don't think too many people view her as a Mary Sue at all. She stands out, but only in that one aspect.
Hickman didn't turn her into Tchalla. He just made her ruthless and for single minded then Tchalla. As of right now. I think it's unclear who is smarter between her and Tchalla, my hope is that the sequels play on this
I believe they have flat out said that Shuri is the smartest person in the world. Which doesn't take away from T'Challa necessarily since he's pretty darn smart himself designing that suit in Civil War.

I'm somewhat inclined to catalog all of them on the first page. Sort of like a pike wall for would be transgressors.
Man I’m just sitting here waiting for this movie to crack a billion. And then kick back, relax, and drink the delicious tears of unfans everywhere. Satisfaction, thy name is T’Challa.

I imagine if Marvel wants to turn the Big 3 into the Big 4, he's gonna start showing up in a lot of places that Steve, Tony, and Thor are going to be.

and they have Also said Shuri thinks she is smarter then Tchalla and how they interacted when he gets back from the mission with Nakia coming back to Wakanda, lead's to believe Tchalla doesn't think she is smarter then him, but in a playful way

NPR's "On the Media" had an interesting piece on the BP movie and what it's depiction of Wakanda means for black viewers.
The title of the episode is "Back to The Future" and the Black Panther talk is a segment near the end of the podcast. I'd say roughly around 38:36.

It's interesting but I'd say the guy they interviewed was kind of reaching when he suggested that Wakanda might have been inspired by the real life Haitian revolution, and he also unfortunately repeats the mistaken idea that Stan and Jack based the X-Men on MLK and Malcolm X.

I believe it was producer Nate Moore that publically said that Shuri was the smartest person in the world, and Letitia in a few interviews repeated it.
But I don't know... maybe T'Challa feels he's smarter. I'm just going by what was said in interviews for now but maybe the next movie will decide to make T'Challa smarter. I guess we'll see.

And that's not even mentioning those who insisted that T'Challa rode a certain mutants coat tails to greater popularity.

Just saw it today. It wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be, but still, I enjoyed it alot. I look forward to seeing BP in Infinity War.

More posts from 2016 about Black female representation in the BP solo movie:
Great post.
I hope in the solo that director Ryan Coogler pulls Shuri and the Dora Milaje (and QDJ, depending on what story they want to go with) into the film. He seems to appreciate having developed female characters in his films (as well as utilizing female professional talent), though nothing as substantial as Shuri has yet appeared.

The MCU currently lacks non-white female characters of note, and especially black female characters in particular. The BP solo film, which has many viable female characters available (Shuri, Ramonda, the Dora Milaje, QDJ, Nakia/Malice, Okoye, Aneka, Monica Lynne and others), can definitely help fill that gap.
Hell, in theory it should be able to fill that gap on its own.

These should all appear in the solo BP movie

I agree with this, but with Coogler and Boseman heading the film, I'm not too worried about this happening. Really at this point, my only question regarding the love interest is whether it'll be Monica (cookie cut or a slightly to greatly modified version), or if they'll just go with a wakandan woman as an original character.

Pretty much this, I'm almost ready to walk way from T'Challa as a character ( and while I'm at it marvel as a company, comics as a hold as is) , I made the promise to myself to refuse to pay for any marvel movie till the BP solo is in theaters (wnt be paying for Cap 3 either) and If they produce a version of T'Challa in BP solo I'm not interested in then I have no problems saving my money and watching it on tv (maybe) just like I've done with rest of marvel movie verse.. And only T'Challa I'm interested in one who's Super Power Super Genius Warrior King, who either in a relationship with Black African woman or about to be dating a Black African Woman or who single till he's once again ethier in a rship or dating a Blk Afrikaan Woman.. and that goes for both the movies and the comics , Preferably a Wakandan and preferably NOT Monica Lynn. Other wise I have no interest and will save my money/time..
Saw Black Panther twice and each time was worth it. Haven't been following the comics lately - how are they right now?
